I just saw this! Oh, man. You have NO idea for how long I've wanted for the Halo 2 E3 demo. It's lost media I've been desperate to play with for so, so long. Best of luck, guys. You are a blessing on the Halo community.

I remember all the attempts back in Halo Custom Edition of trying to recreate this demo only for them to stop or just turn it into a simple city-themed sandbox. To think some modders with the backing of an official studio is about to make it all real is just amazing.

Is this out yet? It's been so long that they hype is dying down. The Halo CE beta stuff is FINALLY on MCC mods but the holy grail of cut Halo content is not....

@@MaxiemumKarnage Wouldn't be suprised if it takes them quite a while. The original demo from e3 from what I understand was insanely buggy and would crash hard if you deviated from a set path. These guys i think have to rebuild a bunch of the demo in halo 2s engine rather than the scrapped engine build from before bungie torched everything.

@@Yakasuki Actually, 343 Did a livestream years back where they showed off old versions of Halo 2, including the E3 demo. They fulfilled a request in trying to find ways to mess it up like going off the scripted path or try to find bugs but during so discovered it was a lot more stable to play than was initially remembered. Not to say it would be releasable to the public but certainly was very much playable.

“Guess the brass do give a shit” might be my new favorite Marine reaction to seeing Chief.

They should make it EXACTLY like the demo. Make it feel like a real war and real city.

I am torn between wishing they restore the amount of blood on the ground at the Field Hospital or keeping it toned down. On the one hand the former is more E3 accurate but the later doesn't look like several people violently detonated everywhere.

Took me like 12 hours to get the video fully downloaded, and it was only around 9 minutes I think.

The original New Mombasa is such a fascinating aesthetic, it really comes off as a city more befitting of the universe Halo 1 established before the re-design. That futuristic comic book-esque look to it all really feels like something you'd see cyborg super soldiers in ATV helmets running around in.

I mean that was kinda the aesthetic ODST went for, and Metropolis was also like that. The first mission just took place in Old Mombasa which looks more like a contemporary city.

Okay the ai driving in this is actually pretty damn good. Great scripting it almost seemed as if it was a buddy of yours taking the wheel for driving. It was fast paced and full of elegance.

they used to actually fly some of the pelicans and spirits themselves in halo one and basically record it for the AI to follow the same path

Ever since I was a kid I have dreamed of playing the E3 mission (even got myself several viruses back in the day trying to download a "Halo 2 E3 Demo" I found online) so I am really looking forward to this

It's a shame that Bungie had to scrap this version. "Termite Mound" New Mombasa was (imo) way more interesting than "Space Elevator" New Mombasa and was a city I always wanted to explore. Can't wait to finally play this.

kind of too alien looking for my taste, the "ordinary" looking city scape contrasts better with High Charity, but I think this design should've been reused for some other place in the lore, like Sunaion or something

@@blueshit199 True, but the reason this design fascinates me is that I’ve never seen anything even close to it not just in Halo but in any work. Probably the closest alternative is DXHR’s Hengsha and maybe Coruscant.

Not going to lie, I remember playing the demo, watching my big brothers play it, or watching it back during the early e3 days. I'm not quite sure, my memory is blurry but I remember all of these things happening when I was younger around 2003. I was 2-3 years old at the time, but I was very fond and hyped during that time seeing my brothers play.

I first saw this demo as a little kid and it was always locked away deep in my mind like some sort of fever dream. I had vague memories of the stuff that happened could never remember where or what it was from. It felt like the mandela effect and I had memories from an alternate reality with an alternate halo 2 campaign lol

When I saw this as a kid for some reason I thought this was playable on the silver limited edition copy of halo 2 lol so I was trying to get one for a long time but then as I got older I was like wait a minute...

It’s nice with the better lighting and quality

I just want that single fire battle rifle back. It sounded better to me.

All I can say is good luck to them to fix the scarab shots they used for the anti air guns projectiles in the e3 trailer. The covenant AA guns used are all broken just leaving one scarab fire long enough can remove bipeds and cause all kinds of issues later in a level now imagine all the AA guns in that demo going off one after another and some one just chilled a couple minutes. Its probably why they still have them disabled in this run through of the level its the reason they were disabled in the main game and still are to this date.

New Mombasa looks so good. It makes me wish we got this in the final game. A scripted second on the Guass Hog would have been a great way to showcase things. But I can understand how this didn’t make the final cut.

As a kid who loved playing Halo CE, I wanted nothing more than to play this mission in Halo 2. I'm glad I'll have the opportunity to play it soon.

I remember when I first played Halo 2 for the first time, I was wondering where this level even was.

It’s interesting to see this playable in the final version of Halo 2. The lighting makes it look totally different in places.

This is actually amazing stuff. I can’t wait to finally play this piece of Halo history. This demo always fascinated me not only because we never got to play it, but also because it showed a very different version of Halo 2 that I always thought looked cooler than what we got. If only we could’ve had stencil shadows…

@@ashyoshicharizard3949 Halo CE as we know it was in development since mid 2000, giving it one year at least of full development, at it was never trying to be the scale of what halo 2 tried, and Halo 3 started development shortly after Halo 2 launched. Halo 2 got completely scrapped and rebooted just 10 months before release, a third of the levels were cut, the whole engine had to be thrown out, etc. So yeah, Halo CE and 3 were not rushed, Halo 2 was, and it shows everywhere

i remember the VIDoc detailing that the original version they used to present halo back in the day was held together with duct tape and screws.its a miracle yall got it working again.its also amazing to see how all these things translated into the final version in halo 2 itself. The two snipers in the introduction,chasing the covenant land transports through mombasa. et cetera

I’m beyond excited to try it out.

All we need now is the single shot battle rifle, implementation of the the wonky three hit melee combos, perpetual dual wielded SMGs Banks gives you (with appropriate crosshairs), and the BR reloads (which you do have the pulling back of the charging handle). Then the world will be right.

The black ODST reminds me of Romeo. I would say that’s a nod, but this is before Halo 3 ODST.

At least we got the scarab imagine if they never added it in 2 or 3

I remember being like 4 or 5 years old wondering where this was in the game. I wanted to play it so bad lmao. This is really good, however a few things I'm nit picking about is the br, the blood, effects from explosion etc. Especially lighting also. When chief is shooting the gauss gun at the phantom the visual damage effects need that turquoise/green plasma explosion and pretty much the same thing goes for the shadow. If everything I mentioned doesn't get added then I at least want that level of blood bc to me it will feel like its supposed, this war is brutal so it just needs that for sure.

Its been a year when will they release this damn demo for us to play

On the otherside was jackles with those shields while that covenant troop train transport took off.

One of the main things this is missing is the atmosphere and blood. For extra faithfulness to the og, were also missing the 144p.

I really hope that they make the br single shot and not burst

I would like to see this ported to the OG xbox build of halo 2, so we can definitely check what would have been possible to keep from the demo in the final game if Bungie had more time to develope the game. I believe the OG xbox would run it somewhat fine, with a few hiccups during phases of the mission that have a lot of assets in the scene. Some optimization would be needed to increase its performance, like reducing the quality of textures and a better asset spawn logic, but it would still be impressive to see

It would crash. 343 has 1 single OG Xbox with the original H2 Demo on it, which was at a time considered forgotten. Since we had videos but there was no actual copy. Aside from that H2 demo was simply too ambitious for the engine to run. It could be on 360 or Xbox One but on the OG Xbox no.
