Dignics on a Budget?! | Glayzer vs Glayzer 09C Review

Спорт

Hey guys! In this video we test the new Glayzer rubbers from Butterfly. Glayzer comes in two versions the Glayzer and Glayzer 09c. Now the price point of these rubbers is where it gets interesting as it’s close to half the price of the Dignics series, yet Glayzer uses the same top sheet technology as the Dignics series and also shares spring sponge x, with a softer sponge.
So lets find out what these Glayzer rubbers are all about!

But it helped me to develop my game and i can still develop it further with it. I am surprised that i don't need to change my material as i make big steps forward in my table tennis skills.

I've been playing Glayzer on fh and glayzer 09c on backhand since they came out on April 1st on my Fan Zhendong ALC. Was playing Rozena before both sides. Oh maaan did my backhand improve tremendously with the glayzer 09c. I can just rip through the ball with spin and confidence and just "go for the shot". Compared to Rozena the glayzer 09c has much more spin but is quite a bit slower in softer strokes and has lots of control as well. If you go harder the 09c can hit very fast balls as well. Glayzer on fh is a little different though. Compared to Rozena it has more spin and therefore potential to play more dangerous shots. Speed is a little less but has more quality and "venom" in its strokes. BUT it's less forgiving than rozena. You have to be more aware of your positioning, how you angle your racket and how you hit the ball. Rozena is much more forgiving in that regard. Still, even the normal Glayzer is a rubber with lots of control, especially if you compare it to many other rubbers like T05 or MXP. Glayzer 09c stays on my backhand FOR SURE. It's absolutely amazing and my bh is now almost more dangerous than my fh, it was the complete opposite before! Regarding fh, i might try out some different rubbers like Fastarc G-1 and even give Glayzer 09c a proper testing on FH.

I use the Glayzer 09c on my backhand for a few weeks. It brought me much more control and my blocking game is significantly better. Just going through the ball combined with using the wrist. But with all positiv things you have to consider that the rubber needs active strokes. If you don't do this the ball will fall into the net. I'm totally fine with this. It shows me where I do something wrong and this very directly.

I have played both. R7 is spinny and controllable but if you play at a higher level and want more spin and control during power shots than G09c is much better choice. G09c is better for people who can spin the ball, R7 is better for people who play more all round game. G09c is more demanding to play as you have to be very active and use longer more powerful strokes as it's slower.

But it is really expensive so I think about these Glayer when I will have to replace it. I fear I will lose speed and grip with the Glayzer. For the moment, I only need a forehand as I have a long pimple in the backhand but I will maybe come back to two backsides... depending on what I intend to do next season. After years with a LP... it won't be easy but I am not ready to put 80 € X2 for a racket ;-) Will I loose so much with the Glayzer ? Maybe more the normal than the 09C ?

Thx for the interesting video. TTD: i have question: Currently i play with Andro TP Ligna CO OFF with Rassanter R42 on FH and Backside2.0 on BH. Although i love it, I realize this is maybe a bit above my level. I also have an old BTY Primorac OFF- with currently Donic Acuda S2 (FH) and S3 (BH). I feel I still need to work on my technique and play, so your recommendation that Glayzer and Glayzer 09C are ideal for that, caught my attention. I am seriously thinking about using my BTY primorac again for a while, which is a slower bat but gives consistency and control, but i am not sure which rubbers to put on. The acuda's are not completely wasted but they had the best of their time. I am not sure if it wise to keep the Acudas or change to BTY Glayzer. Would it be a good choice for the BTY Primorac or should i still better choose for eg Rozena, Tenergy, Dignics... I am a classic developing offensive player with a stronger/more consistent forehand than backhand, but when it comes to chosing rubbers, i lack knowledge... :) Thanks already. Kind regards, Fre

Hmm .. I’ve played with the Dignics 05 & 09C extensively and the MX-D (which is probably closer to the Rasanter). So I can say that the Glayzers are both really up there in terms of similarity to what it’s bigger bros (Dignics) can offer. Definitely NOT on par with performance values such as the spin & speed potential, but VERY close. I would say a solid 75% similarity. It’s base speed is a little less than MX-D but I feel it has better spin potential and durability seems to be much better. Surprisingly, a well balanced value for money rubber from Butterfly IMHO. Better than the Rozena / Aibiss etc in the same price tier for sure.

These reviews are all well and good but the majority of table tennis matches are not played when you feel confident in your game because you are playing against a new unfamiliar opponent. In these situations, I feel like having a rubber that is slower would be more helpful. How to test this? Currently the comparisons are done one after the other in a very controlled setting - 5:01 in this video shows fh to bh down the line as the test. But would it not be better to compare them with an opponent you feel unfamiliar with? We all know that even though you feel amazing and have 100% confidence in training it doesn't translate to matches, and that the acid test for a rubber should be those situations where we feel uncomfortable because that is when we need the extra confidence to win, usually by keeping the ball on the table and not going for more risky winners.

It's a bit weird that the softer of the 2 is also the faster, no? Is it because the 09c is more "Chinese" in style? Also, which one do you think will better fit forehand/backhand for a classic developing offensive player with a stronger/more consistent forehand than backhand?

Neither of them look fast enough and do not seem exceptional in terms of spin. Do we really need new rubbers every year that are essentially the same as many others? Seems to be purely marketing. I'm currently playing the Nittaku Acoustic with Fastarc G1 on both sides. Great combination.

It is Dignics on a Budget. But the rubber is still to expensive for how budget it accualy is..... like it shoulden't cost more then like around 35. Main issue is you get no spin on the rubber. You get the arc but the spin dies so fast. That's why it feels so easy to "block back" since 1. Dan/Tom aren't getting as much spin on the ball as they normaly do. And it's not as sencitive as there normals rubbers. It's NOT a bad rubber. Just felt it's to overpriced for what it offers. It's like a Rakza 7 lowkey

  • @Afropalmen

Never tried Goldarc 8 as far as I know atleast. Rakza 7 to me is a rubber that is like 100% control and you get "meh" spin and speed. Like you get the ark but there is basicly no spin for the other person on the table. Glayzer felt the same. Alot of controll but you aren't winning shots becouse of your spin with it more placement 100% I haven't played with Rakza 7 in forever so don't know if I can compare them that well.. But I woulden't spend 59dollars or what it cost on it. Then you can spend the 45 on Rakza instead. But hey it can be alot of diff with the blade. I would if I where you rather w8 until someone @ your club buy and then try theres before you buy it :)

Mate, the reason Tom is better than you is mostly down to your insistence on using a blade and rubbers combo that's too fast for you. Tom uses a slower setup and is obviously more consistent, which beats amateurs at your level. With your playing style and technique, I'd say use an inner-ALC blade. Get one at about 85g too. Then, put Glayzer 09C on your forehand and Dignics 09C on your backhand. Would you like to place a hefty wager on whether you compete a lot better with that setup, or not? Just consider the professionals who you are most similar to in style, particularly where you tend to move and where you like to be located...They all use inner-ALC or inner-ZLC. You do not locate yourself like Timo does. Also, Butterfly and Timo probably hate it that Timo is better with the blade that was first recommended to him by ME, the Primorac Carbon. No doubt that it had to have hurt sales of the Boll ALC as Timo succeeded IMMEDIATELY upon changing blades. No doubt it hurt Timo's pockets in several ways. But anyway, do you remember what Timo exclaimed that one time you two were playing each other? "TOO PASSIVVVVEEEE", which was aimed at himself. Timo literally comes with the attack relentlessly. You never see him playing more than 1 passive shot at a time. He always tries to counter on his next shot. Timo is all about attacking and countering, never stopping applying the pressure. Dan, you do not have this mentality whatsoever. You will back up and absorb pressure whilst you wait for a good time to get ahead of the ball and counter it. So, why don't you accept this and focus on consistency, placement, variation, and sound tactics? You'll eventually find out that you're a significantly stronger player when you stop giving up easy points from your own unforced errors so much. They'll actually have to beat you in every point because you'll be able to get that ball back, and with solid quality every time, over and over, and that takes higher quality players to do that. It's something that gets in players' heads big time too. Makes them feel beaten, knowing they have to actually beat you, not just let you beat yourself.

Tom switched to stiga cybershape with stiga platnuim H which is a very fast set up and he not only controls it well but is playing even better with a faster set up. Tom is better due to many other factors not as related to equipment choice (like technique, power, stability, tactics). But Dan has improved significantly recently and I feel like you have no place to judge him or give him this kind of criticism

Pro players use different equipment based on their styles and demands. Many top chinese players use viscaria a faster outer carbon blade, many other europeans also prefer outer carbon blades, where as dima, fransiska and harimoto are probably the best using inner carbon. (I assume that harimoto uses the added control to support his block and small counter while dima and fransiska said they need more dwell time to really spin the ball and add their own force as they have strong techniques and don't need added speed). But again, many more use fast outer carbon blades (lin Yun Ju with super zlc, FZD with viscaria, Timo Boll etc) Also I think you are completely wrong about Dan's playstyle, he plays the way he does in reviews because he's testing rubbers or training, so sometimes he may mess around and hold longer rallies with seemingly more passive shots. In the real match situations and I'm sure when he seriously training he's far more aggressive, very good at looking for the 3rd ball attack on forehand and very strong counters. If you don't believe me you can watch his full matches. When he is in form he make very little errors too and has a very stable technique and counter even with his fast equipment Here is an example: kzread.info/dash/bejne/payO0q2soaSrhrA.html In short, I think you are way off the mark about everything you said, you sound like a far weaker and less knowledgeable player than Dan and have really no qualification to judge his equipment choices or skills
