A quicker way to layer in GN is to lasso everything you want on top and hit cut. Then put the background where you want it. Then (with the lasso selected) long press on the screen and choose 'Paste' and everything you lassoed will go on top.

In GN you can also cut an image you want on top by pressing the red x circle. It is saved in memory when you do that. Select the lasso tool, long press where you want it and it will appear on top in the exact same size and form it was before.
