Here I show you my concept test model, on which I test my new staircase lighting V2.
Here is the video of the V1 version:
• DIY - Digital LED Stai...
A big change is that now the direction of the people can be recognized and thus some misbehaviour can be eliminated. So I can calculate how many people are on the stairs at the moment and leave the light on until the last one has left the stairs.
I will now install this technique on my staircase with the old version V1. Which hardware I will use on the real staircase is not yet clear. That is just in the planning stage. It should be easy to install, so I will probably make my own boards.
I would be very happy about your support:

    I love this project. In my opinion you can use 2 sensor only 1 ontop and 1 on bottom then you just select a delay for 10 seconds to off the lights. Let say Distance= how many cm or inches form sensor to wall if sensor1>distance Then All Lights on with animation Delay for 10 seconds Lights off with animation Else Lights off if sensor2>distance Then Lights on Delay 10 seconds Lights off Else Lights off. That's only my idea I'm a beginner in Arduino. But thanks for the idea

    Why two sensors on the top and bottom of the stairs? Why not just have one sensor either upstairs or downstairs, on the wall facing the center of the stairs, and that would activate when there is any motion in its path (like a security cam room motion sensor does)?

    Super nice man, just have a quick question regarding the sensor. Are you using the VL531LX? I have noticed this sensor goes buts with some light waves, so either at some point of the day or by having natural light that runs at that wave-lenght the sensor goes nuts and the counting too. Have you experienced this? We (A group of people trying to create a good occupancy detector sensor) are actually looking at other sensors because this problem with natural light

    Yes the sensor is sensitive to sunlight. I have built a test setup with the sensor for a human counter outdoors. It did not work well above a certain brightness. I later used a simple lidar sensor. A little bigger but more reliable .

    Hello, Have you decided which sensor you will use for your real stair? Because in your test model is easy to find a lot of kind of sensors (you're using a VL53L1X sensor), but for long distance I'm not sure which one is better. Also, I’m not sure if having two sensors too near will interfered one to each other.

  • @jacekk6913

    @jacekk6913

    3 жыл бұрын

    It's a laser. Laser gives you a point light and not a cone type. There's no possibility to interfere. The solution is simple - two lasers above and below. You just count people in and out - based on the laser light cut order. If two people will pass themselves in the laser area then you have a problem with counting mismatch and the light will be still on or will turn off to fast. The stairs is like a corridor - you need to go back or go forward. You can't vanish there.

    @@tinkerfun I just used a different concept from someone selling a kit from Latvia. Used Arduino and LED strips under each step. I must say it came out looking very nice but technology wise, such as people counting, it does not do. When you are ready and if you are willing to share, please let me/the community know. I would like to also reproduce your setup at my house with my second staircase. The basic idea would be that there's two sensors at the top and two at the bottom of the staircase. Lets call them 1 and 2. 1 being the sensor on the outside of the staircase and 2 being the sensor on the inside of the staircase. If sensor 1 is broken then 2, a person has entered If sensor 2 is broken then 1, a person has left Person walks onto stairs, sensor 1 sends a signal first, then 2. *Tally person one person on stairs Person walks off stairs at the bottom, sensor 2 sends a signal first then 1 at the bottom *Remove one tally from person on stairs Lights stay on if Persons on stairs = >1 Light fades from the sensor set opposite to which last read a person leaving, to person entering using addressable LEDs

    Hi Benni It is very imppesive I thought about the logic might have used. It looks 1. The outer sensors take the lead for entry role when you walk up or walk down 2. The inner sensors take a lead for exit points, when you walk out either at the bottom deck or upper deck 3. The interesting point is to calculate how many people are in the middle of the stairs between inner sensors. It looks to me that if the sum if entries are greater than number of exits regardless of whether at upper point or lower point, the strip Led needs to still be turned on. 4. If the number of entires are equal to number of exits- the last exit sensor activated on high either at bottom or upper point dictates from which direction the Led strip should travel and fade out. 5. My understanding is that distance sensors are used only bacause of their accuracy compared to motion sensors. I assume you do measure anything here. Benni please advice if this above description was the logic that you used to set it up? Great thanks
