Stumbled upon this video, honestly? the very sweet spot between film and digicams. Both are getting quite expensive and for people like me who enjoy carrying around a tiny camera just to collect memories it sounds like a great option. Sure it could have a better sensor or shoot raw but probably it wouldn’t cost $65 so i’m willing to accept that. I’m totally getting one

Yea. For what it costs, you can't go wrong. It's that classic 3 options, pick 2 scenario where you can choose between low price, quality and vibes. This camera is price and vibes.

There's a similar product to this that was in development about the same time called the Flashback camera, and in a lot of ways it's very similar to this. The gimmick that it employs, however, is that it only takes 27 shots per "roll" and that the camera links to your phone to dump the photos, however you don't get the immediately... instead they "develop" and unlock after 24 hours. It's totally a novelty and a gimmick but there's something charming about it and continues that theme of staying out of the moment and moving on once you take a photo. I also think that because it links to a mobile app wirelessly that might make that computer-in-between issue you bring up here less of a pain. No idea on the quality of photos but I'm expecting a SIMILAR result to other small sensor digital cameras like this, the Paper Camera, etc.

@@JTobiason On an intangible level I think it's the nostalgia of not knowing how your photos came out and the anticipation of seeing them. But also it plays into what you touch on where it lacks a screen so you are more likely to shoot and move on. While not a huge thing I figure having the immediate connection with your phone might encourage checking each picture like we do with our cell phone anyway so maybe keeping it behind a timer helps gets our mind off it. I ordered one but I don't have it yet so can't speak to how effective it is, we'll have to wait and see.

I really like it. I’ve been wanting a camera that is digital but looks vintage for a long time. The issue in the UK is they tend to cost a fortune for a similar quality or it’s a film camera you need to buy which costs a fortune in developing (I don’t have the space at home or I’d learn and do that myself). For me this seems to tick the boxes and so I’ve bought one. Even if I was dissatisfied, it would be a great camera for my kid like you’ve done here. Thanks for the insightful video!

This looks super interesting. I think a revamped version with slightly better exposure correction would really be perfect. I really liked the indoor images around 4:17 - I think it did a good job (outside of the caveat that the hightlights are burnt out). What I usually don't like is the noise with all its colors with digital sensors. However, I think I'll get myself a pair (can't order a single one apparently) for mainly black and white stuff.

Great review! Looking at their Instagram it seems like they’re looking at adding vintage filters like you suggested. They posted some test photos about a week after this video was posted. Wish there was a bigger market in this price range for a digital camera with the sentiment they have in mind. Closest ‘competitor’ I found was the Kodak Printomatic but it seems to fall short in this context because that camera favors its features as an instant camera (as the name implies) rather than its features as a screenless, digital, point and shoot

Unlike similar specs from 20 years ago, though, it looks a lot more like film grain. It's surprising how moderately well it handles tough lighting situations without looking blotchy. • @JTobiason

That's a great question. No. You can plug it in anytime to a computer. You use the USB-C port to connect it. Then either simply drag the photos onto your computer or use a program like Lightroom or even Image Capture on MacOS to import. Those programs have a "delete after importing" option that is helpful or you can just delete the images from the camera. Make sure you empty the trash before disconnecting (thats the same for both Mac and PC) to make sure it's cleaned off. There isn't a way to format the card like most other digital cameras.

I thought it was supposed to have that grainy look...like it's trying to have the picture quality of a disposable, but having a "modern" camera body, so that you're not polluting the environment with tons of disposable cameras. Is that not the point? I didn't think many people were buying it to take the pictures and editing them to make them look better, I just thought people were buying them for the nostalgia factor, and simplicity of not having to be distracted by the screen, but without all of the waste of the disposables.
