    On my iPad, i wanted to connect the Rode Wireless Go 2 to the lightning 'digital' and charge at the same time with the Belkin Dual Lightning Adapter. It didn't work, no matter what I tried. I bought the dual apple usb & lightning to lightning and using your method connected it up and its working. Thank you very much.😁

    Seriously useful tip - thanks Gary. We make sailing adventure videos just for fun. What’s the main diff between digital and analog audio? Please explain that

  • @kirchenkreispaderborn

    @kirchenkreispaderborn

    2 жыл бұрын

    Best is to stay digital as long as possible. If you use an analogue connection (e.g. with a TRS/TRRS to lightning adapter) the audio gets converted one more time: From digital (Rode) to analogue (Adapter) to digital (iPhone). If you are using the SC-15 the chain will be digital (Rode) to digital (iPhone). Each time an AD/DA (analogue to digital / digital to analogue) conversion happens, the audio will be affected quality-wise. So far with the theory... Check for yourself if you can hear a differnce.

    Can u do a video showing the actual diff between using the adapter and the curly cable. Because what’s the benefit of using the apple adapter? All I wanna do is set up both mics to my iPhone using the native camera app. When 2 people are talking into the camera I want clean audio. I do not want to mess with audio in post. Just clean audio from the raw video file. Will the rode go 2 do that?

  • @GaryDmedia

    @GaryDmedia

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes you can use the curly lead but your two mics will be mixed to a mono feed. That means both mics will be on both left and right audio channels of your video. If you want separated left and right mics on the video you will have to use the digital connection. Hope that helps explain it.

    No worries John, the video file is created in the iPhone. The iPhone software decides how it will save the AV file. So it should not be different using a different audio source. If you are syncing in post a separate recording from a recorder, that’s when there may be a change. I would not record any audio in mp3. When mp3 files are compressed they can become out of sync with the video file. I would only use mp3 as a recording format if memory size was limited and it was an emergency backup.

    Did not work for me with the supplied USB cable from the Rode VideoMic NTG and an iPhone 13 running iOS15

    To connect the VideoMic NTG to an iPhone a standard USB-C to lightning cable. Rode have a special audio cable. The SC15 or SC19. I’m sorry if I don’t fully understand your issue your having but hope that helps.

    Thanks, Gary. The work-around of using the supplied Rode cable, USB C to USB A, along with the Apple adapter, USB A to Lightning does not work using my NTG and iOS 15 (nor does a standard Apple USB C to Lightning). Posting for others, not saying your method doesn’t work for the Go

    Very good information Matthew. Thanks for mentioning it. I don’t have an NTG. I really appreciate your support.
