Lavender showing herself in real life is shocking, always thought she was just a drawing SCP living in virtuality 24/7

She's shown herself in vids before and she streams on Twitch with face cam so it's not that unusual :)

Also good tip: If you look at other’s art and go “man this sucks their art looks so crisp and nice and mine looks so pixelated” UP THE CANVAS SIZE AND DPI. A LOT OF TIMES THE CANVAS IS TOO SMALL THAT THE DPI IS LIKE AUTOSET TO 72. (I’d do minimum like 300dpi) play around with it until it’s the crispness you want.
@rainyflower3969

dpi doesn't actually matter much on digital paintings UNLESS you're printing your artworks! dpi stands for dots per inches, it's basically to tell the printer how many ink drops per-inch it should produced when printing your art, basically to make sure the details in your artwork would look sharp once it was printed. (so the higher the dpi, the sharper your physical prints will turn out). edited cuz i started talking about ppi but then i realized that it might be too confusing so i'll just leave at that ^^;;;

I actually prefer a smaller, pixelated canvas :P

You can also use a vector brush. Like I will often use vector canvas's for logo's or "smoother" art work. With Vector, you can use any resolution once your done, as it uses ai pixels. However with vector you can't use soft brushes. So with soft brushes I will use a very large canvas, like 4k. And use that, my screen is only 1440p, however I can zoom out, and use a significant bigger brush, and it'll feel like a small canvas, despite using a really big one. It is very useful, as I would make very small canvas's because it felt nicer, and all my artwork is pixelated.
1:36 for shortcuts I also use H and R for the hand key and to rotate the canvas (in clip studio paint). Just holding those keys down will allow me to move around my canvas so much quicker than normal!
@RosyKitteh

In Paint Tool Sai, I also use R for rotate canvas, but the "hand" key (or move key) is Ctrl, and I don't think you can change it.
I’ve been coaxing myself out of an art block, so this is perfect!

My drawing program was basically chosen for me lol! My dad works for the software company that made Autodesk Sketchbook, and it (was) free, so I started with it and due to not wanting to spend money bc I only draw every once in a blue moon, I've stuck with it. It's missing a lot of features but it works well enough 😭😭

There is another good free drawing progam called "krita". I used to use autodesk sketchbook book and then switched over to krita bc it has more features.
Ik you dont really do digital art on mobile devices (tablet, phone, etc) but i would love to see some digital art tips for mobile devices!
completely off topic, but i have a suggestion for you. i absolutely love your 'by the book' series, and i recently got done reading carrie by stephen king. the book describes the characters (and also how certain things went in general) very differently than what's portrayed in the movie adaptions, especially carrie concerning her physical features and clothing choices (specifically her prom dress). i'd really like to see you bring back the series covering this book

SLAY LAVENDER YOU ARE SO AWESOME
It’s always a good day when Lavender Towne posts
I love your tutorials, I learned a lot about art from you. Thank you for always teaching us about art! ❤️
I really like when you do sponsorships because you incorporate it very well into the topic of the video, it's really cool I think.
Not one of my favorite youtubers giving one of my favorite electronics brands for my art that I recently discovered the love it deserves! Got one of their touchscreen laptops and tablets (both of which came with their own stulys pens and the tablet with its very own keyboard), couldn't be happier!
The last tip is important, because we can forget we are using a screen and screens tend to tire our eyes a bit more that paper.(because it have lights) And it's good for me to remember, because I often hiperfocus on the drawing till the end or for too long and in the end my eyes are so tired that I start to see things weird 😂 It's also important in traditional medias. Anyway, loved the video and the way you did the advertisement was incredible, you totally sold the product, if I needed a computer right now I would consider that one and it was entertaining and wasn't a 'forced' add at all. Also love the way you make your vids, it's so relaxing and enjoyable 💕
I love your art, Haley! You’ve been a huge inspiration of mine since 2016 or so. Your art always brings a smile to my face. Please, for yourself and for everyone you’ve inspired throughout the years, never stop creating❤
Lavender! I started my freshmen year of high school and I'm doing a digital art class! They've done a couple lessons so far but thanks to you I ACED all of them AND had time to do my own drawings! I understand that you don't know I'm a human and all, but you've helped me so much! Let that be with art or generally feeling better, I just wanted to say thanks :)

You're such an amazing artist! Also I meant to congratulate you on publishing your book!!!! Equally important to taking a break, knowing when to draw. I love drawing in the evening but I'm often too tired after work. Since my day starts late just changing the time I draw helped a ton!
I CANNOT SHUT UP ABOUT HOW MUCH I LOVE YOUR ARTSTYLE
AUGH I am so glad we have this queen to help with art 😊

I love your videos they help me so much, please keep up the good work
you're amazing and you inspire me so much!
The whole color calibration issue is one of the reasons I don't really use my Kamvas 16 too much anymore, that and the screen resolution. I mainly draw on a Surface Pro if I'm out and about or on the couch, and I prefer to use a non-screen tablet with my pc set-up because my desk monitor has a much higher screen quality. I never thought I would go back to using and even preferring a non-screen tablet, young little baby-artist me would probably of had a heart attack at that news lol.
I love how soft her voice is 🥰
It feels illegal to be this early-
congrats on 2mil Lavender!

Thanks for sharing your knowledge, this is the perfect video for a day of catching up on homework.

Your art gets better and better. And I get jealous and more jealous!! 😫
i love your art
Also in most if not all software you can adjust keyboard shortcuts to suit your needs. I personally like to use < and shift+< for decreasing and increasing my brush size respectively (I think the default for those were [ and ] but I by far prefer using )
First, maybe, but I love ur videos so freaking much!
Shortcut keys are a real blessing, my drawing tablet had 12 built in. (2 went unused, though, because the placement was a little tough for me to get used to.) I got fed up with the operating system on my laptop though, and the buttons didnt work on the new one I liked. I did, however, get an extra number pad off a friend, and now have a wonderful 16 keys with a comfortable layout. Super smooth and very nice. Even as a non-professional, the time save is incomparable. I WOULD thank the original OS for being enough of a pain to make me switch, but the sheer number of hours for drawing I've lost because of it... inexcusable. All it did was slow me down, and now saving and re-opening my entire program often is a habit. (And no, it wasn't GIMP, because now it works perfectly fine after 1 crash that lost nothing.)
Never fail to help🛐
I love your videos so much! You’ve really helped me feel better when I have been going through rough times, I love you! ❤
I know it's still too early to ask but I really hope you make another video talking about the concept art and pre production stuff for your new comic I'm so excited to see more and hear your thought process in the writing and draw the story
Recently I finished a picture I'm super proud of, but it involves text which I spent like half an hour trying to make look right, and then I took a break and came back the next day and figured it out in 3 minutes. Never underestimate the power of a break.
The shirt you have on in this video is really cool!!
Before getting my drawing tablet to draw on my macbook, my go to art app was ibispaint on my ipad. And now that i have a drawing tablet, imma use my ipad for on the go art, and the art apps im using on my mac are sketchbookpro and krita.
Uploaded right as I sat down to work on an animatic! Woohoo!!
The shortcut thing I took to a bit seriously and changed a bunch of shortcuts to use only the left side of the keyboard, like zoom in/out, increase/decrease the brush size etc. My friends say by the sound of my keyboard they never know if I'm playing or drawing.
Awesome video!!!!
This is very helpful :D
I always do mental break, I thought it was procrastinating. My brain can't fix my art immediately, so I look away from my art and rest.
Idk why but after watching any of her videos, my art gets 20 times better😨
If you're like me and struggle with keyboard shortcuts & need something more tactile- try a tourbox!! Its basically a glorified fidget cube for artists that can be completely customized with shortcuts! Its sped up my art process significantly 🥰
1:09 Honestly I prefore just having a nice GUI and doing everything one handed with the mouse much more relaxing and smooth that way.
Omygod I haven't watched the video yet but I JUST got my first drawing tablet four days ago, then my favorite art KZreadr uploads this! 😂 Edit: Very helpful video! I do indeed need to set up more shortcuts. 😊
Your voice is like the equivalent of a cozy blanket for my ears
This woman know every secret I swear-
I loved the video, thank you for making my days brighter :) Your art is such an inspiration for me and your videos are so entertaining and easy for me to kickback and watch. I love you and keep up the amazing work!! >:D
I actually bought this laptop a couple months ago when my hp envy broke. I highly recommend it. The screen is wonderful and it is quiet. You also get a lot for the price. (unwrapping a lenovo is also a god like experience)
Thank you i just started doing digital art a month or 2 ago
Doing the digital art I said I was gonna do: ❌ Listening to Lavendertowne talk about the digital art: ✅
if you have a pen that has a few buttons that you can keybind to (like wacom cintiq pen) then keybind one of them to control z it took a bit to get used to but its literally life changing
thanks for the tips!! one thing i never understood was how artists draw on a computer, its so hard to control the mouse
Mother has posted🙏
Love from New York
As a person clinging onto a Lenovo Ideapad laptop from 2018 with the loudest of fans ever, and a disk driver I'm so putting this in my wishlist for some day. ;w; That screen is chef's kiss. The only thing I'm unsure of is the built in win11. I hope it's optional in the settings.
Awesome
thank you for inspiring me to keep drawing, also your tips are so helpful!!! 🥹💖
Lavender, can you make a shorts or a video explaining how to use the mouse to draw? I don't have a tablet and for now I don't have the money to buy one. 😢
At 2:03 and 5:55 she was playing howls moving castle!!!! ❤It’s my favorite movie 😊
this is so cool and helpful! if only i had a drawing tablet, drawing software and a laptop rather then a broken phone and my fingers...
I’m just gonna take advantage of this comment section full of fellow artists- anyone here know any tips for interesting composition with a large amount (like 5-10, not a full crowd) of characters? I know it’s getting kind of late in the art school application season but I’m still trying to get some statement pieces finished off ;~; As always, love the video LavenderTowne
