Do you want a FREE 30 Day Trial of JazzWire? TEN SECOND sign up (no credit card required): app.jazzwire.net/free-trial
FOR ALL INSTRUMENTS - Welcome to DIGGING DEEPER. In video #97, we look at the diminished sound, and see how it's related to dominant chords. We build a classic diminished/dominant lick from the ground up, so we can see how this whole thing works. Pretty cool, right? The answer is "hell yeah, this is cool!" Jeff For President!!

Another nugget of valuable information from Jeff here. I have been on JazzWire for a few months now and am delighted with what I have gained from it. First up an impartial evaluation which will give you feedback on your strengths and weaknesses with most importantly advice as to where you will make the fastest progress to becoming the player you want to be. Secondly a new relevant topic each week presented in a way that enables you to understand the whys and wherefore and start to incorporate new ideas concepts and vocabulary in a practical way. Thirdly and emphasis on practical application of small ides rather than being swamped with information overload. Thirdly a community where people encourage each other in a positive way. Well done Jeff your vision and hard work is paying off.

After practicing your tutorials about diminished I’ve come up with the idea of mixing up C(whole half step) and C#(half whole step) And it sounds great for me! Especially triads you’ve mention on another diminished video

Great stuff and the neck sounds fantastic. I might need to go down the rabbit hole of trying new necks for my MK VII tenor after hearing the range of colours I heard in your video demonstrating the aftermarket necks. I really liked neck #1 it might just help to dial in my horn to spread out the sound and bring down the projection a bit.

Yet another good un Jeff. i'm beginning to realise that in all those years that I relied on playing by ear without knowing very much about chord or harmonic structure, I played a lot of diminished runs, without being aware of it, because it simply sounded right. It's good that you have stressed that it"s important to know how and why it works. I'll have to watch this a couple of times to get my head round it, but I'll persevere. Oh by the way, is that a new neck on your horn?

Glad you like the idea of knowing what underlies the material. SO important. I hope we'll get to work together at www.JazzWire.net . . . that is what we are doing there day in and day out! New neck, yes. Do you notice any differences with it from previous videos?

I do intend to get onJazzWire Jeff. I will firstly be going through some of your videos, and the bits that Im struggling with, I can then discuss it with you. In my case a lot of what I need to know is how to apply some of it. So hope to join up when I have a better sense of direction, and can discipline myself to practice longer. Possibly my imagination, but I do think that your new neck is a bit brighter than your usual one.

@@georgelee7135 well, the reason to join is so that you DO have a better sense of direction. That is what Jazz Wire is all about, providing the direction so that folks aren't spinning their wheels. And the other thing we do a great job of? Providing folks with a framework for their practice and their discipline. So there it is. No more waiting! :)
