Hello Mr Jon, could I ask how do you manage the bottom to be able to hold water if it's also sandy?

Hi Zhaki, he answered the same question in my comment you can read it. His soil is naturally waterlogged, he created his pond in a low laying area that stays wet all year. The pond will be half way full in the dry season and full the rest of the year.

@@8971felix thanks man, I have the same kind of soil layers in my area. Although it's pretty hard to have perennial plants in a specific pond, it's quite promising to do seasonal crops like rice, morning glory,..

What to do when we don’t have clay in the bottom? We dug a pond and it couldn’t keep water for long.

Can you please give advice, how to build a small pond and water canals in a large town garden, without plastic liner and electric and plastic filters please. We want to use plants and stones. It's sandy soil, so could we buy and use bentonite clay or pottery clay to, kind of seal the bottom please.

I wonder why you don't need to use a plastic sheeting to create the pond. Won't the water escape through the sand?

The plastic sheet will block the water to infiltrate through the soil. We want to keep rain water in the soil around the pond as much as we can. When we pump the water out of the pond the water in the soil around the pond will flow back to replace water in the pond.

@@JonJandaiLifeisEasy I live in the US and most areas aren't flat so you can't have a pond in sandy areas because the water will drain to lower areas. We have to line our ponds with plastic or clay to keep the water in. Jon, I'm guessing you live in a very flat area.
