Differential Signaling: Designing for Long, Fast, or Noisy Applications

Ғылым және технология

This video is your intro to Differential Signaling: Go faster, further.
Bil Herd has covered single-ended topics like TTL, and CMOS, but when increase the speed or distance a signal needs to travel, Differential Signaling is key. This is why it is used in many modern standards like LVDS, CML, and LVPECL

Big like. You do a excellent job of getting the technology across without out all the techo-babble. Thank you.

Thank you very much for this wonderful video! Im subscribed now. One thing to ask, is that could you show how you set up and use the oscilloscope to show those signals (adding them up, etc)

Had to look up divot : divot (plural divots) (especially golf) A torn-up piece of turf, especially by a golf club in making a stroke or by a horse's hoof. A disruption in an otherwise smooth contour.

USB 2.0 and up, also lvds. Mucho sensitive to wrong board layout. Mismatch of impedance. Nice video

If I was trying to send differential signals across a multi slot backplane, would would be the optimal connector? I was thinking of a 96 way DIN connector where it has three horizontal pins x 32, and putting the ground in the middle of the two + & - signals

Hi, I am using one chip DS90C401 which is a LVDS driver. I don't know when I input a sine wave to its Din, why its output(out+ out-)are not the same sine wave. I really hope you can reply my question. Thank you!

Thank you , I have a question regarding the 4-20 mA signals how can it be connected to a differential input module that has +/- 5v ?

you mention the short ( i.e low impedance ground) my understanding is thay when measuring with the scope grounds are not connected ??

Hi, when you subtract the two signals you dont have 0 volts, instead you have -3V, why that is not a problem?

Thanks for the vid. Next time please use Xilinx device. Question though... your waveform showed ringing which I understand is caused by reflections. Do you know of any good resources to understand termination, and the transmission line theory of differential signaling standards?
