I don’t know why I feel the need to say this, but I heard Peter and the Starcatcher and got excited because it’s one of my personal favorites. A big part of that is the fact that, when we did that I had my largest role I’ve ever had, which was Printess, and yes I know it isn’t the main lead, but it was also an extremely fun role to be. Idk why I felt the need to say that, but this video was really cool and educational! Thanks

It is, in fact a thrust, BUT as (I think) I mention, an open air stage can be one of the other stages. So it is also open air, as the stage and some of the audience has no roof over it. If I missed saying open air could be set up like another stage, that's my mistake.

@@NickAchBackstage Ahh sorry I should’ve been clearer, my comment is in reference to the image of the globe used in the section about platform stages (incidentally, a phrase I've never heard before, is that the North American term for it?). Side note about the globe: I think it really pushes open air to the extreme, most open air theatres I've seen are in quiet, scenic places, by contrast the Globe is slap bang in the middle of london on the southbank, really is mad watching a midsummer night's dream with helicopters overhead!!.

Ah, I see your point there and technically, while a Thrust, the Globe has a raised stage so it is also a platform stage. (I was trying to show more than just temporary stages in those images) And, actually, a lot of these stages can be considered multiple types - which is why I also referenced the Globe as Open Air...Shakespeare gave us a nice 3 for one! There are also Thrust stages where the audience is raked and the stage floor is even with the audience floor, likewise there are Proscenium Theatres I've worked in that are like that as well. At least here in LA in NYC stages actually fall into a couple categories. I would also go ahead and assume everything I say in these videos is at least North American based, as my education and experience has all been based in the US and hasn't travelled overseas. A lot may apply worldwide, and I definitely love comments like yours where we can see and talk about those differences!

I've actually never run into this type of theatre (why I didn't include it!) but it looks like it's a theatre with an audience on 2 sides, opposite each other...so I'm thinking the "backstage" can be on either side, or it might be like an arena with no backstage. I don't think I can really speak more on it than that, because I haven't run into one...but it seems super interesting to work in. Sorry I can't be more help on that one!

I saw a production of Alice through the Looking Glass with a traverse theatre. It was a touring show that adapted a proscenium stage by having platforms set up for audience members upstage. We didn't know the other half of the audience was there until the middle of Scene 1. I was sitting in the house and they had a mirror over a fire place and a flat covering the entire stage and Alice was walking by the mirror but her reflection was actually the mad hatter on the other side of wall and the mirror was actually nothing. They both freaked out that their reflection wasn't themselves and when they touched each other through the mirror it broke and suddenly the flat was gone and suddenly the other audience was there. I have no idea how it worked, it was crazy.

I didn't understand a word , I mean yes I do know English but I couldn't understand , my laptops sound is 100% but very low and i could not hear anything :)
