The Victorinox Executive has been my EDC knife since 1978 when I bought my 1st one at an army barracks store in Fort Bragg, NC while visiting a friend who was in the army... LOVE that knife... not too big and easy to carry, and does pretty much everything I need on an every day basis. I lost that first knife somewhere, but I immediately replaced it with a new one... perfect for my every day needs... the orange peeler isn't used much, but I have tried it, and it works well... I just don't eat oranges that often... but the flat head screwdriver on it is great... I use the the nail cleaner for a Phillips head screwdriver a lot... and a good nail file and scissors are a must for broken finger nails, and trimming wild eye brow hairs, nose hairs, and mustaches ! Since I am sort of a knife collector, I own several Victorinox Swiss army knives, but seldom ever need all the other tools... seldom ever need a bottle opener, cork screw or, can opener, etc. I love Sambar Stag scales, and always wanted a Victorinox Executive with such scales... I will probably do my own custom scales on one. Doesn't look like Victorinox currently makes the regular old Executive model... Can't believe they are that stupid with all the other models they make... the Executive 81 is very sub-par to the original Executive... no way would I buy one !

There's also a 65mm category, like the Wenger Esquire. Which still lives today in the Victorinox lineup with a few models. Those give you the option of the small Wenger serrated scissors, which are really good (except they're no good on fingernails...which is why I guess it's good they have a model with nail clippers).

Story and why I like SAK knives. I purchased a SAK Recruit several years ago and kept in my lunch cooler for opening various types of cans or fast simple tool usage. I really like their version of a can opener. The thing worked perfectly. At the time of purchase, I paid $7 (US) for it. Best investment for under $10 I made. Sadly, I lost it. Recently, I did purchase and upgraded my SAK knife to the Huntsman with a security clip and small locking d ring to prevent it from falling out my side mesh pocket on my soft side lunchbox/cooler. I do keep a small cheapy Leatherman type tool in small pocket because the pliers works ok, but the blades, and other accessories are not a good as SAK offers. As of yesterday, I purchased the classic SD ES, and the Tinker for my other EDC tool kit in my electronics tool kit for in the field.

I edc the sportsman and I absolutely love it. I also have the work champ, which I love even more, but I carry it when in nature/outdoors. It is just too big and heavy for edc. I sharpened one of the sides of the file of the sportsman (yeah, I know it is quite abusive) and now I have a file and a second blade, which works great for opening boxes and things like that.

Great selection! And really envious of your 84mm 3layers... After a bit of rotation I ended up carrying a sportsman much of the time, and man I wish I could add scissors to it... Would be perfect! Love it much more than the tourist that I also own of course for the nail file, which ok keeps my nails in shape, bit most important... It's perfectly shaper to fit Phillips small screws! Together with the opening layer tools and a corkscrew mini driver I am basically covered for all flat, Phillips and pozidrive screws i find around. With scissors added (and maybe the hook on the back of them. .) would be the last SAK for me :(

Thank you for the great video. This size comparison was exactly what I was looking for. My 2 current edc's are the 91mm Climber and Huntsman, red scales. I'm thinking a little smaller in Alox or wood for dressier occassions. Got to have can opener and scissors, though. Your video has helped me with size, for sure.

I don't drink but I've opened wine bottles for other people and when I do it, I simply put the bottle on the *ground,* right between my feet; then I push down on the bottle with one hand and pull up with the corkscrew with the other hand. Very easy, and very stable. :)

I have had many of them since very childhood. I found Ranger Wood 55 to be my best suit. It’s a real deal. And when it comes to hunting knives. I found Hunter Pro (Wood and orange rubber models) really effective. And if I wanna chose a small one, for sure one of new Swiza models will be my choice. They look great and I held one for some moments, felt perfect.

My current set: - 58mm: SwissLite (on the keys, newer version with white LED, so actually usable as a keyhole flashlight), Rambler, Escort and Classic SD; - 84mm: Bantam Alox Silver (already very rare where I live, but got it pretty recently) - my favorite in terms of size/weight/functionality/design; - 93mm: Pioneer Silver - IMO the best as a knife per se. Also, as a Samael metal band fan, I have ordered a Samael-branded Spartan directly from Switzerland, from their official website. Still being shipped.

The Shack Jack, the one your friend modded for you, with your suggested improvements of a reamer and hook? YES PLEASE! I have my own idea for a knife also. I’d like a 91mm Huntsman or Fieldmaster, but take out the dual can opener and bottle opener layer, and sub in a combo tool and a small nail file on the same layer. If that’s not possible, then simply replace the hook on it with the hook from the Compact. Adding a nail file to the Huntsman would make it my perfect EDC. Upgrading the scales to the plus scales would also be nice.

From all SAKS i have tested for the outdoors, the Rucksack comes out 1st and the Harvester 2nd, both in terms on how they work and how they feel. My opinion, was confirmed, when I saw that Ethan Becker, carrys a Rucksack every single day in his pocket. So, I'm not the only one, that have found, that Rucksack is special, it simply works better for the outdoors, than any other I tested. That being said, Harvester works almost that good, with the only disadvantage, that the blade doesn't lock. Why I don't like the Farmer more? Because the keyring destroys the ergos, 2nd the only reason I need the can opener, is to use the screwdriver but you will not find screws in the outdoors easy, but the second hawkbill blade of the Harvester, is truly a plus for an outdoor tool like this. Since their awls and difference on that specific tool, exist on the Rucksack and the Harvester and also the blades are different lenght etc, you can always carry both! Even the cup lifter-bottle opener is different on them! Now for Urban edc, I don't think that there is a better combo, than Spirit X with the Explorer! Explorer, was also the founders Karl Elsener personal choice... Everytime I come to a conclusion, to what I think works best, after a while I always find out, that a great guy, like the people mentioned, also agrees with my opinion. For the outdoors, you can always carry any combo, or any single tool you think will suit your needs. What I mentioned, is just my personal opinion, after testing, the SAKS I had availiable, that I got, after searching a lot, to find the best. Stay sharp but mainly...stay safe!

84 mm 2 layer for pocket carry. 58 or 74 mm models for key chain carry. These days, I always have a keychain knife, and I sort of go between the Classic SD, Rally and the 74 mm executive. For pocket carry, I think the 84 mm is the perfect size for an every day light duty tool, and honestly, the mix of tools on the one and two layers is sufficient for most of my every day needs 99% of the time. I love my Cadet. Also the Waiter and Tourist are pretty cool. When I am not carrying my Cadet, those are worthy knives. I have a Recruit on order, which is pretty much a Cadet, but with plastic scales, and a secondary blade. I might try that out and see how I like it. If I were going on an extended tour someplace, then maybe a 3 layer knife like the 91 mm Climber or Huntsman might be the way to go, and then just keep it in a backpack so it doesn't get too bulky in the pocket. I have several 3 layer knives, including a Camper, a Climber and a Wenger Traveler. I keep the Wenger in my car, and the other 3 layers are in my house, so they are nice knives, but i just don't need that mix of tools every day, and smaller and thinner is usually better.

Hahaha! OMG! I totally agree with you about the sizes. I was thinking that I was alone in the world. I've asked a few sak experts the real reason about the 84mm series. A lot of business complexity only for 7mm of difference. But nobody really knows, Do you know it? I feel better the 84mm in my pocket and in my hand too (and I don't have a small hands). The proportion of the knife is better for me too. And always, less is more in EDC. I've been carryng saks for more than 25 years and I've a good collection of it and, at the end, I carry 84 for de city and home and 91 or 111 for outdoors. For city, Sportsman first (I modified the rear scale to fit the ballpen),the cadet (in silver if I feel gentelman or in used black if I feel more tactical XD). For the office, the alox bantan is the winner. For outdoor, just for one day 91 huntsman is the best. For more days, 111 with saw I think is better. Oh man, I feel envy when I see the 3 layers in 84mm. The sportsman plus withs scissors would be the perfect for me. Where do you find it? I have writed several times to Victorinox asking why not a cadet, tourist, sportsman, small tinker or a with scissors. This would be a top sales! No reply. I cover this lack carryng a MidniteManager in my keys (the same for more 20years) and a Swisscard Lite in my wallet. Before internet, a MidniteManager in my Keys and a waiter was my perfect EDC. Thanks for you videos making reflections about the sak's world. I enjoy a lot. PS: Go for the Walker! Great for childrens and small walks with the dog :-)

Hey Guillem! Thanks for watching! Great comment! Unfortunately they stopped making the 84mm scissors in the mid to late 80's. I can stand behind your choices for various environments! I also carry a Manager and sometimes a red Midnite Manager. I had the old version of the Walker, the Lumberjack, and combined it with an 84mm Golfer to make the custom ShackJack 12:39 It is indeed a SAK world! :) Cheers!!!

Btw, I do know that they offered the two sizes since at least the very early 20th century, like 1903. I tend to think it's a goldilocks type of phenomenon, one must find the one just right for oneself. Whatever the reason, I'm not complaining. :)

Victorinox Swiss Army, does not make a Wood Carving knife that has two carving blades, a saw, and a large roughing blade. Blades that have 58 or better Rockwell hardness or 440 or better stainless steel. Just three slots (not sure what they are called) handles. that are rounded for comfort, with locking blades. Folded no more than 3 1/2 inches long. If all the carvers out there will unite and keep bugging Vicky about it, I am sure they will listen.

@@swissarmydan9354 Hard to find bro. Was looking for one for nostalgia reasons as I lost mine in the mid-90s. Second hand GAKs advertised on ebay aren't always clear about which manufacturer they're from. Those advertised as definitely Vic are few and far between, very worn (ground) down and expensive. Hope you found one though for your collection.

Did they ever make a knife where the main blade does not lock in the open position. I have one knife where the main blade is not steady. It flip flops, up and down about 30 degrees. I need to place my finger on it to hold it steady - fully open. ???

Sal Sepulveda Most Swiss Army Knife blades do not ‘lock’ (they are ‘slip joints’) the spring tension resists accidental closure. Some do lock- there are a few types. Wengers and some of the larger SAKs have different versions. These are mechanical and need to be disengaged for the blade to close. It sounds like you have bad blade play - maybe a damaged back spring- the blade should ‘snap’ open and closed and require a definitive push or pull to close or open it.

Top tip: carry a Classic in conjunction with your Alox model for tweezers and small scissors. It weighs next to nothing (21g or 3/4 oz) and disappears in a coin pocket. Farmer + Classic is my EDC.

I bought m6 Spartan Red 1 year ago and was disappointed but near the end of winter I had a little e "accident" and had to completely duadble it in order to wash it properly some time later zI bought the Soldier model and was veru pkeased and happy ani it then I had yet another "accident" a weeknor so ago I tried using Poxipol to better strengthen the scales in the Soldier now it seems like I have bad luck with yet again "accident" happening. In both cases I did not bother with their official oil I really love these knives since I lost my old school era Spartan from the 90's and want to fix them and perhaps awuire a Alox minichamp one day, do you know were I could find 111 nylon scales?
