Also, keep in mind im comparing a non Aspec '12-14 to an Aspec '09-11, so it's not a fair comparison. I forgot to mention, I'm retrofitting the new TLX '18-20 grill into mine. This will make it look more agressive then 09-11, so stay tuned! Along with jewel eyes it'll look👌.

Those grills are very neat on the 2012 TL I seen it before and wanted to do it but couldn’t get it done as yet but I plan to do so I’ll wait until you drop the video and I think the newer grills for the Type S could fit too but let’s see how yours looks after

09-11 I think is aggressive af and I literally love the huge grille. I would never colormatch the grille, if anything I would paint it white. Although I think I would color match the chrome door parts + those chrome strips on the roof

09-11 looks more aggressive and stands out. First time I saw the 12-14 I thought it was a regular car like a civic.

Ya it’s gonna look more aggressive with the a-spec kit. My car has the aspec kit and it’s a 2013 pearl white and it looks way better than when I see my same car without it.

Yah I know I'm actually surprised haha. I guess if they absolutely hated it they wouldn't of bought the car. My thing is there's a reason TL sales plummeted when the 4th Gen came out and it's cause of the grill unfortunately. They could've made it sportier looking from factory like the Type S 3rd gens.

Great video, I always liked how the 2012-2014 models looked compared to the 2009-2014 with its blacked out headlights. One thing I did noticed about the 6-Speed automatic vs the 5-speed is how early the 6-speed shifts into 2nd gear. & I noticed how the 6-speed doesn’t mind “lugging” the engine vs the 5-peed. I like that since both the 3.5L & 3.7L V6 engine have this nice muscular “warmth” when it’s being either transmission “lugs” the engine. As far as speed is concerned, regardless of the 4th-Gen TL both the 3.5L & 3.7L are the same speed. Mostly because the SH-AWD versions are heavier, & Acura needed to put the J37 to compensate.

I'm sorry but I will still choose the 9-11 TL over the 12-14. The 9-11 looks more imposing while the 12-14 looks so simplistic

Yah! I have an 11 TL Tech Package, and it looks more agressive than the 12-14 models... especially with my custom gloss blackout Grille.. also the rear on the 09-11...looks better..I like the factory exhaust body cut design. I do like the smoke factory headlights on the 12-14. But, the park light cover is longer and makes the 09-11 look more luxurious. To each his own.😎

I agree with all that, but the front Aspec Kit on 12-14 is more agressive imo. My plan is to retro fit the new TLX grill into mine with jewel eye headlights, but 09-11 doesn't look great with that grill unfortunately.

If you don't care about performance after 120mph I'd say go the 6AT route(2012-14). Also, 09-11 I have read of vibrating driveshaft issues on forums but that issue was fixed in 2012+ models.

@@mrdave777 the sh-awd, paired with the extremely comfy seats is hard to beat for a daily. Also, the 6AT will be faster then a Type S 5AT imo.

09-11 is best, the aggressiveness of it makes it more masculine, 12-14 not as much 🤷🏻‍♂️. I own a 2010 sh-awd and its a blast to drive amd that j3.7 engine sound is amazing 👍

So the trunk part bottom that you don’t like looks like the 3rd gen front bottom grill. I can see a lot of 3rd gen in this 4th gen but just beefier. Like head lights and quad tips. Nice vid!

12 -14 is nicer , just get the aero kit on it with those stock 19” and your dual quads

Since the making of this video the 09-11 grill has grown on me more as long as it's color matched...the rear no doubt is better then 12-14. The blacked out headlight housing is better on 12-14. The 2018-20 TLX grill retrofitted into the 12-14 grill on a black TL is still my favorite style front though.

Personally I think the 12-14 A-Spec gives it a a more wide body look instead of the 09-11 giving it a more aggressive look. Took different view points but all in all they both look great.

I had the same pov, the awd traction can't be beat🤙. It's a blast off the line, and in the turns.

I have owned 8 Acura vehicles in my life in the following order: '87 Acura Integra RS 3-dr '05 Acura TL '07 Acura TL Nav '10 Acura TSX V6 Tech '12 Acura TL Advance '12 Acura TL Advance (My second '12) '13 Acura TL Advance '16 Acura TLX Advance Pretty much loved all of them. My favorites were my '07 TL, my '13 TL and my '16 TLX. I love the look of the current TLX ('21 and newer) but I ended up replacing my '16 TLX with a '20 Honda Accord Touring 2.0T. I couldn't justify paying considerably more for a newer TLX 2.0T that underperforms the Accord Touring. I know I could buy a TLX Type S but those are significantly more money and get absolutely horrendous fuel economy. I drive about 20k miles per year and with gas prices where they are and then premium vs regular on top of that, it just doesn't seem like a financially rational decision. If they would give the TLX 2.0T 35 more horsepower to offset its 500lb weight difference over the Accord, I would buy one but for now I'm enjoying my Accord 2.0T. However, I really do find the current TLX to be a beautifully designed car and should they choose to up its power in the midcycle refresh to the 305 - 310 hp range, I would buy one in a heartbeat.

I love the 2021 2.0t and the 10spd. I also own a 2018 TLX Aspec SH-AWD, and had a 2017 3.5 SH-AWD. Fortunately, the transmission is tuned slightly better in the 2018-20 models, but still very sluggish I find. The biggest downfall steering me away from the 2.0t is the sound, nothing beats that lovely v6 note. A simple tune on the TLX 2.0t and you're at the 300+hp mark.

It just have a cleaner simplistic design it’s a luxury car not a sports car that’s the audience they’re reaching its like a Lexus, Audi, Cadillac or BMW simplistic designs over aggressiveness now the newer models of BMW I don’t know clearly have a different lead designer now even Porsche being a sports car keeps a simplistic design

I have a 09 TL but the 12-14 looks better. The grill on the older model is just too big and only looks good with the aspec kit. Imo color matching the beak makes it look worse unless the car is black.

I'm liking EVERY gen of TL and TLX

09-11 looks better IMO

Please I am trying to reset my oil change on miles in my 2010 Acura tl but because I have an airbag that is out keeps coming up on the dash and it’s not letting me reset anything because it keeps popping on the way. I am looking for a way to reset my oil miles and maintenance

You just have to go to oil life and hold it for a long time if I'm not mistaken, I have an oil change video where I did it...if that doesn't work then I don't know

I spray painted the wheels(they are peeling and chipping), vinyl wrapped the chrome trim and it's holding up well.

Hi, I have a question, is there any main visual differences between the regular vs SHAWD? I'm in the process of buying my 1st 4th gen, I see a few that are marked as the SHAWD, but no badge, so makes me weary before buying. I'm looking for a 12+

I believe the only difference would be the OEM wheels,l styling. SH-AWD should have the badge, but it might have been debadged.

I got my first acura tl 10 sh awd 3.7 I love it. I have the white diamond pearl, i get alot of compliments at stock oem. The black on black is just too underrated, that white on red woooh is sticks out, best color scheme IMO, gotta keep it clean at all times tho...😅 but this thing is a beast and very comfortable to drive all around. If you live in a small tight spaces and roads that's probably the down side. But still fun to drive and roomy inside. You'll love this model from 9-11 no doubt

Difference is 18 like the video shown but they come in 18s and 19s and 19s has more spokes, what he had originally shown before was the oem that came with 12-14 model 17s. Also if you get the 3.7 which is technology package, push start, full navigation GPS and of course sh awd is the big difference vs front wheel drive 3.5

Yah my favorite "OEM" combo is the 09-11 color matched grill, paired with '12-14 front Aspec kit and 09-11 rear Aspec. Favorite aftermarket is '12-14 grill with the '18-20 TLX grill retrofitted into it, with retrofitted jewel eyes, and 09-11 rear Aspec.

Holding up great, only issue I ever had was 2nd gear syncros. Now I just granny shift into 2nd. Just have to add about 1qt. in between oil changes

@brogeno_24 around 90k miles. Had it since around 20-25k. Just oil changes and brakes really. I've had over 200+ launches still OEM axles.

It is hard to wrap thats why I went to school for it

My seats in my manual have no rips, but I'm still pretty low mileage. I should be treating the leather with something, so it'll last longer though.

Yes the 5AT definitely has longer gearing, the '12-14 will do it with ktuner but auto shifts to 6th so it'll take a while to get there

Mix of both tbh...for Auto I prefer the 6AT('12-14)..For styling as long as 09-11 the grill is color matched, it looks more agressive then 12-14...12-14 front aspec is more aggressive though, and 12-14 look better with the 2018-20 TLX grill retrofitted into them..Also, 09-11 Rear Aspec is wayyy nicer imo, but not a fan of the huge red reflectors on the 09-11.

Mine was burning just enough to get the oil consumption top end rebuild. Now it burns maybe 1quart every 5k km.

@thedefispotlight2780 it would be ideal to try and find one with the work done. That or as long as it's lower mileage and oil changes were done on time(preferably sooner) I do every 5k km or about 3100 Miles. Just got to keep an eye on the oil lvls and make sure it's always good. For about 5-6k US you can get a fully built head from P2R if you plan on modding that would be better then spending 4k US on stock top end rebuild.

Yeah that's going look nice when you retrofit that grille.

I have the same umber interior and it’s honestly the best color you could have. The black and beige look so boring and plain, IMHO.

What do you mean you can’t hold 4th gear past 120mph, or hold 5th because it auto shifts into 6th? Are you saying you can’t ride the rpms high in those gears cuz it’ll upshift automatically?

Correct, after 120mph the 6AT auto shifts to 6th.

Not sure what you mean. SH-AWD is always on. It's mostly fwd until you apply some gas. SH-AWD shines the most in the turns and snow. 3.5 is fwd 3.7 is SH-AWD

The 09-11 is all parted out now. It was winter time and one wasn't running, there was snow all around so couldn't put side by side comparison.

definitivamente 12 -14 looks way better the other one looks like parrot beak the chrome is out of fashion

When color matched it looks better then 12-14 I think. Also, the rear Aspec kit is more aggressive looking the 12-14.

@@RevsALot yeah I got intake, 2” exhaust with muffle/resonators delete, front/back dash cam, leds lights (interior), additional sub/amp and a heads-up display 👍

Stop racing and go fix that that check engine light

It's from being catless, and I forgot to disable the sensors. I clear the light and it comes back on once I floor it.

Sorry but the 09-11 beak is plain hideous, silver on silver? BLEGH 🤢
