    I wouldn’t say peak Acura but definitely very good and a memorable design. All j series are single cams, most feature vtec but some have vcm. Vtec lobes on single cam Hondas are only on the intake valves….. cool thing about the 3.7 is that it is able to engage vtec on both the intake and exhaust valves with a single cam head… pretty cool stuff

    I have always really liked these. Especially when people paint/color match the front beak to the whole car, or black out the inner beak where the emblem is. That really helps the look out. But size and proportion wise this car is great. It just looks and feels solid and safe, and the interior is so comfy.

    I purchased my 2009 Acura new and I’ve got more than 250k miles on it and truly enjoy it. In fact, I don’t really have any interest in upgrading. It’s a great driving car and larger than anything Acura offers anymore, except of a new MDX. I’ve always had it serviced at the dealers and they’ve done a great job keeping it “nearly new” feeling. The only Acura’s I have an any interest in it would be the MDX Type S, but I’d hate to pay the price.

    First off, I loved this video. great Job! My husband and I love this car, we bought it used for a really good price. it is very luxurious, very fast, and seems INSANELY reliable. we had to replace a tire - no big deal - but it's a smooth ride. My husband's friends were quite impressed. I recommend this car and definitely love HONDA and ACURA. GREAT JOB!!!

    I have a 6-speed 2012 (Triple black) and other than a recall on the potential oil consumption issue (mine did not have it), it had been extremely reliable. If you are looking for a quality manual transmission sedan, and don’t want the BMW repair headaches, the TL is an excellent choice.

    I have this exact trim and she’s about to hit 150k. Bought it used as my first car and it was never the prettiest or the techiest, but definitely reliable. And now when looking at brand new cars costing $30k+, some of them still don’t come standard with some of the features that this 09 has and I use everyday. Hopefully Acura comes out with something more interesting and styled like the 3rd gen TLs. New Integra has potential but they need to set it apart from Civics and the rest of their sedans

    @2:10 he mentions the 5-speed automatic transmission. It’s a nice & reliable unit, & it’s the era of when Honda/Acura mastered their “Hondamatic” design so it’s pretty stout.

    Great Review though, I disagree with you, honestly I love the design of the exterior and interior of the car, as I do own the 2014 facelift model and it has aged well. It still has good looks and still get compliments about the look of the car. The grill is fine, most cars these days have huge grills now so it’s not a big deal in design anymore than it was back in 2009, the interior has aged well and is spacious, other than the screen, I love the gauges. The seats and center console and has a nice flow with the dash, it’s not “overwhelming” as you put it. Because you aren’t constantly driving it, so you Learn to navigate the interior and buttons as you drive, btw I’m from the Naperville/woodridge area as well lol.

    2012+ Acura TLs got the 6speed automatic which was not problematic. Gauge cluster feels normal as everything else has the same information or style from other manufacturers unless you’re talking about the size of the needles and gauges which yes I agree is a little much. Oh boy, if that has too many steering wheel controls what about the new cars which has controls for radio/media, helper screen in gauge cluster, Bluetooth, and safety systems (adaptive cruise control, lane assist) on top of cruise control buttons. Yeah the centre stack has a lot of buttons but again, I feel like it’s normal for vehicles of that generation. Sure Acura could’ve consolidated a lot of those buttons using dials or toggle switches or maybe not make the buttons as big but, eh it functions lol

    My friend has an 2012 Acura TL base model,l that has around 220k miles, that one is part of the same generation but with the “refresh” which where the 12-14 model years, those come with the 6-speed automatic but same 3.5L V6, and the front grill isn’t as provoking but still not the best looking, anyways that generation TL is fairly reliable, the 5-speed can last a long time if the transmission fluid is changed every 30k, especially since In the mid to late 2000’s it seems like every manufacturer started building cars cheaper feeling for a short period of time until quality went back up in the mid-2010’s.

  • @trashrabbit69
    @trashrabbit692 жыл бұрын

    These things are definitely underrated, especially the refreshed ones from 2012 onward. The 6-speed auto is... okay, nothing special. But when the 3.7 hits around 3200-3400 and VTEC engages the rubberbanding shoots you like a slingshot. The interior holds up incredibly well in terms of quality and fit and finish, I only have a few rattles during cold weather and this thing has nearly 190k miles on the clock, original engine, original transmission. Of course I had to get a top-end rebuild because the previous owner let the engine starve of oil (a common issue on the 3.7s) and the cams got chewed up badly. Since then, the machine has been STOUT and super fun on back roads. Wish it had a manual and heated steering wheel, but other than that I love it. The chassis work Acura did on these TLs to complement the SH-AWD is genuinely amazing, even for a ten year old premium sedan that even when it was new was rather dated in tech and options.

    I think after 2007, the TL transmissions were solid. before that not so much. I haven’t heard much issues with the 4th gen. 2009 was actually the low of Acura for me. the designs were really fugly with their beak grilles. the V6 were super solid and smooth though. They started slowly coming back after 2018 I feel like and now in 2022 they are back with the nice sporty designs. just need to bring back the manuals completely.

    I agree that this was probably peak Acura. The beak honestly doesn't look bad on this. It's not excessively beaky and I like the angular design. The car in general is well designed and well made. It is peak button, this was right when cars started getting loaded with features but right before touchscreens became mainstream so there had to be a button for everything. Acura now is bland and doesn't have much of an image beyond "nicer Honda". Somewhat related, I saw a yellow 1st gen Acura NSX today parked at a car wash. I haven't seen an NSX in a few years. The exotic you could daily drive and it still looks good today.

    Almost bought one of these - a 2010 SH-AWD 6 speed in burnished bronze. Loaded. I didn't like the clutch action and overall the car felt 'large' somehow. Beak front end was a minus, and I didn't care for the tail - the bronze helped a lot. 3rd gen a better looking car. However, the real fault here was the dealer - I never got enough test drive to actually know the vehicle / they just didn't care. Infiniti did a much better job with the M35 and I liked that car quite a bit, even lacking a stick. Even let me try an M45, though I thought that was a bit much. In the end, I stuck with the Germans and ended up with a 535xi 6 speed M sport, more 'plain' than the tech on the TL and certainly Teutonic in austerity, but I still have it at 128k / it stays, even as I replace the primary car, because it just fits me well. And the optional Logic 7 sound back then was/is pretty killer.
