You can go for simply random sampling method. If you are dividing the farmers on the basis of any category, let's suppose, on the basis of their income, then you can go for stratified sampling wherein you'll be making strata depending upon the income level of the farmers. I hope this is clear. 🙂

You can take any sample you want, you just need to keep in mind the technique of making the strata or clusters.

In cluster sampling, the variation within cluster is more than between cluster . Am i right?

See, Both the methods are used in case the population is heterogeneous. So, it depends upon the characteristics of the population under study. Like in the Male, Female example, not every student was to be studied, so stratified was appropriate. But in case of the inspection of the medicines each and every category of the medicine was to be studied so the whole group was to be taken as sample and as such cluster sampling was appropriate there.
