👋🏼 Hello, alumnus (2011-15) from NIFT here. I am currently doing my Masters at NID (Mdes/SDM). Since I have attended both of these institutes, from my experience, I would say that they both have their own set of advantages and disadvantages.Don't let the reputation of these "premier" institutes deceive you into believing that you cannot have a successful career in the creative industry in the absence of a degree from either one of them (of course, being a graduate from a reputed national universities makes the path ahead a little more easier, as it boosts your resume over the others and has become a gold standard in the industry) My point is, that it honestly does not matter which design institute you go to because it all boils down to how well you utilise the resources you have at hand, how you enhance your networking skills and how willing you are to step beyond your comfort zone in order to explore all the possibilities out there. Don't lose hope 'cos a design degree doesn't necessarily dictate your future success as a designer (as cliché and utopian as it sounds! ) After working in the industry for 3 years before joining NID, I had worked with some exceptionally talented designers who (believe it or not) had absolutely no design background or degree as they were all self taught and it really changed my perspective! All the best to all aspiring designers! ✨ NID and NIFT will definitely add value to your development as a designer but keep in mind that it takes more than just the institute to actually help you grow as a designer. Hi! I just completed my BBA and I want to enter the fashion world specifically just fashion designing. What should I go for? Bacherlors or straight Masters? I would be so grateful if you can help me out! Also what do you mean by networking? I am an introvert but I am willing to be in uncomfortable situations to grow.

@@minikaur4993 First of all its great that you have a BBA under your belt. It’s always an added advantage to have a background in business as the combination of business + design is always good especially if you have plans to start something on your own in the future. Even from a recruiters point of view, having a business background is great. To answer your question ; there is really no right or wrong way however from my experience it is always best to get some experience in the related domain before applying for Masters. If you try and built a portfolio of work and apply for internships that would open many doors. My advice to you (before you decide to pursue a degree) would be to : a) Look up online full time courses and free materials that you could use to built a portfolio and expand your learnings b) Look for crash courses in your city. Take on some projects on your own. Try sketching some work out. c)Try to built a portfolio before hand. If you are planning to get into NIFT or NID for Masters, a portfolio is a must anyways. For Masters, it is very difficult to make it into the university without having relevant work experience or a portfolio of self initiated work d) By “networking” I mean reaching out to people who pursue the same course, recruiters/mentors on Linkedin and people from the same community. If you want an internship at a particular company you could search for people working in that specific company and reach out to them Pro tip : Go to linked in and in the search/filters section you can actually type in “BBA” and set the current to something related to fashion and it will show you many profiles of people who have done an BBA and later on took up jobs in the fashion industry. Find those people and talk to them. You probably don’t realise it but what you just did is “networking”. You replied to my comment and now I’m imparting whatever knowledge I have regarding your query. Continue doing the same! Oh and me being an introvert myself understand that it can be intimidating and hard at first but trust me it gets better the more you do it. Keep pushing! All the best. 😊 Hope this helps

I want to be a fashion designer but there are so many different subjects it's driving me crazy. By portfolios do you mean sketches of full garments? Which offers better placements(specifically salary)...nift or nid?

So the thing is that if I score 80 percentile in NID exam and I want graphic. But i won't get it. Is it like this that you know for a specific course you need specific marks? Or like just crack the exam and it is up to you to choose a specific course in NID?

NIFT does not provide interior designing program however NID does so you might want to check them out :)

I was so confused ... because I cleared both nid and nift ....it was really a mess ...but finally I decided to go in NID . Ah ..I do have interest in fashion ...right now I am in foundation yr . And thinking to take textile . Please do guide me ...and ya your videos are reallllyyy helpful.🌼

@@aishagogoi9651 all in all is just practice drawing and sketching daily.... Observe things around u alot...questions in NID r asked alot about the things around u ( unconventional uses and so on like that )....questions in drawing r easy but your concept should be strong...increase your observing skills.... Here i cant tell u everything but get the syllabus from net and prepare.... Do reasoning and current affairs for the written part No matter if your drawing is bad or not so good....but if your concepts and aesthetic sense is good...u can ace it in NID exam

Bachelors is only offered at Ahmedabad centre .. not in any other centre . So total 125+ 3 more added recently , 128 are the total seats in NiD for UG right now all across its centres

Agreed. It’s a dream place. :) But again, for “design” not fashion. The IIT for fashion remains to be NIFT. :) So both have their benefits and it depends on what you truly want to study.

@@ruchibil6218Actually NID Jorhat and Bhopal are the new campuses started from this year only...earlier NID kurukshetra and NID Vijayawada were giving diploma but from this year...these campuses and the two new campuses all are giving bachelor's degree instead of diploma...so guys be happy u will also get a degree like NID ahmedabad
