Choose 5W50 in hotter areas and 5W40 or 5W30 in colder weather (the higher the second number, the better viscosity for protection), just as you take summer tires and winter tires. Secondly the ASEA indication like C2 or C3 is important and is depending on what your car manual says. Third you best choose full synth or at least Hydro Cracked (HC), but preferrably FULL SYNT, for the intervals are longer VS the HC-oils.

Hey i humbly request you to answer my questions I own VW polo TDI 1.2 2013 and engine running at 50k kms exact In india..In my city temperature can reach upto 47 48... And as low as 8 or 9 But i dont use my car much in summers. I dont drag my car...i dont want much performance... If a go somewhere i cruise at 80-90kmph max...i just demand some smoothness and mileage and longer life of engine so which engine oil i can use 5w30 or 5w40 vw suggest 507 00 / 505 01 so what would be better ? 2. When previously serviced at 42000km my mechanic uses 5w30..if i use 5w40(if you suggest ) this time wouldn't it effect my car ? Because even after drainage appx 500ml of previous oil still lefts...

The owners manual say´s which API rating and which Viscosity too use. GM and European cars specify which oils are recomended.....GM/Dexos - MB.......... FORD........... VOLVO.......VW......... RN...........

my car is changan Alsvin a Chinese brand which it was originally designed and manufactured in a colder country such as china in the manual it says 0w20 . but its market scope reaches to Philippines which is a country known to have hot temeperature weather. Is it wise to use 5w30 instead of 0w20?
