Diesel Heater tear down and repair!

EP 42 Chinese Diesel Heater tear down and repair! - Its cold, the heater isn’t working, so I’m going to take it apart with no instructions or guidance, and see if I can figure out what’s wrong, fix it, and get some heat back! Turns out, it’s pretty easy to do, and to clean!

Wow. You fast forwarded through the disassembly and assembly part possibly the most important part.

Hmm - I didn’t think I fast forwarded through anything critical - is there a step I went through too quick that I can help with? I really just unscrewed things until it came apart… 😎
Nice video. I've been contemplating buying a couple of these for backup heat when the power goes out - because it will at some point.

For the price, I’d say they are hard to beat!
You didn't clean the atomizer screen? If you take it apart you need to clean or replace that screen?

I cleaned everything I could get at - ran fine after being re-assembled.
my advice to anyone using a diesel heater is don,t burn engine waste oil . it will block your burner and make a mess ,these heaters are not designed to burn waste engine oil . they dont burn hot enough to be able to cope with waste engine oil ,that,s why we have special heaters designed for that .the diesel heaters will burn cleaned cooking oil ,the problem with waste engine oil ,it has heavy metals in it ,to help lubrication and longer life . these do not burn well and will leave a nasty crusty deposit in your burn chamber .

Yup, I’d agree. You *can* burn it - but other than seeing if it would work, I wouldn’t do it again 🤪
You have to remove that ring in the burn chamber to get it all out. (kzread.info/dash/bejne/iXV-08txhbStj9Y.html) And yes, if you're burning oil, this will happen. Be prepared to clean that out every couple of tanks. Lots of people looking for a way to fix this, but I haven't seen any solutions yet, just ideas that didn't work. Several older Chinese diesel heater discussion groups have banned the topic of burning oil because it has been beat to death so many times.

Good to know - thanks!!
That was cool. I hadn't seen one disassembled before. It blew me away when you didn't change out the fuel, though, but I understand why now. LOL What's the outcome?

It’s running great! Still a bit Smokey on startup sometimes, but once it’s running it’s fine. I haven’t been mixing oil in though, just running old diesel through it now.
Should have removed one more part closer to the jet burner

Next time! 😎
I've been doing research on burning waste motor oil in these Heaters. My understanding is that you need to be able to adjust the air fuel ratio. Only some of the Keypad's/controllers will allow you to get into The Secret menu in order to do so.

That would be great info to have! I think it may also work better if the oil was filtered before burning.

dont bother , it will bugger up your heater ,and you will spend more time cleaning it than using it ,there not designed to burn waste motor oil ,there is already heaters designed for that , you need very high temps to burn waste motor oil . everybody who tries it, ends up rebuilding there heater . waste motor oil has heavy metals in it ,that will block your burn chamber ,no matter how much you tune it .

@@gizmo1252000 Where are you getting your information? There are many people who are successful at doing this, but only those who are getting into the secret menu and adjusting the air fuel ratio. Those that don't adjust it are failing miserably. Where are these heavy metals supposedly coming from? There are no heavy metals in oil itself, nor are there any within an engine.

you go for it mate , let me know how it goes :) p.s i,ve owned 5kw for 5 years .and watched people try this nonsense . and they all glog up there burners .
I wonder if running a fuel system cleaner would do a de-coke every now and then , red x or stp or something like that.

Interesting - hadn’t thought of that. I suspect if anything it might dislodge it, but not sure if it would completely dissolve it, so it may just end up stuck further “downstream” (?) I should have saved it and tested if anything dissolved it!

Run a straight kerosene for a day. Thats the simplest remedy.
I just recently started burning used motor oil in my heater and now it gurgles and won’t fire up. I guess I’ll be tearing mine down today now too
@BruceandKrista

I think you will find a similar clog! We’re you burning straight motor oil or a mix?
@MrChrischrystal
Жыл бұрын
I was running a mix. 4 quarts used diesel oil to 4 gallons of diesel fuel. Mine is leaking oil from the bottom now. Really tearing into her today to see the issue. No more oil burning though. This is my first issue with this heater, and I’ve been running it for 4 years now
@BruceandKrista

@@MrChrischrystal I also had no issues prior to adding the oil 😎
My chinese are a little people, but I think it said aaaaa it's cold in here.
There is a screen down in that is nearly impossible to clean. Did it run normal temp after?
@BruceandKrista

Seems to be running fine! I wonder if a soak in Diesel would help clear your screen?
Are you going to continue to run the same fuel?
@BruceandKrista
Жыл бұрын
I’ll do some more testing first to determine if that’s what caused the issue.
I am not getting power. Yes my 12v battery is good and fully charged.

I’d grab a volt meter and see where the power stops
I want to get one of these but I just can’t figure out how there is no engine oil for it it’s a motor don’t it need lubricant?
@BruceandKrista

It’s not a motor, it’s a burner, no lubrication requirements.

@@BruceandKrista oh have your thought of adding a little 2stroke to the diesel so it helps with lubricants stuff ?
@BruceandKrista

There is no need for additional lubricant - they are designed to run on diesel, which is the lubricant. Adding a small amount of oil won’t improve anything mechanically. My intent by adding oil was purely a form of consuming the oil (and thus less diesel) and an experiment to see how well it would perform.
That fuel color is odd. Better to burn Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel in these. Kerosene is even better, but too expensive most places. Good luck with your heater!

Good to know! Does the kerosene dissolve the solids?

Yeah - as discussed in the video, it’s not straight Diesel 😎
