This is a good work around to get going. It would be worth noting it is IMPERATIVE to have the check valve between 1 & 2 air tanks. Its so that in the event of a system failure resulting in air loss you should maintain one braking system. Another point to ponder, is if the internal check valve were to hang open at some point you would again be left with no check valve separating the systems, and for that reason I would be inclined to replace the tank with a new one rather than a modified braking system. Lastly, Im not 100% sure what the law has to say about modifications like this one, as you are technically modifying the air brake system from how the manufacturer designed it, which in the event of an incident may or may not come under investigation. Not trying to rain on your parade just points to ponder as a HD bolt twister myself.

It's a a duel tank. The one way check valve was garbage. Now your compressor will run constantly and that more exspinive than an air tank. The secondary is a larger area in the tank for a reason my man. Good quick fix

On kw 2ndary don't built pressure because your air dryer ports are cluogh.. Let me explain.. Compressor to air dryer air dryer to primary red line... Secondary black line... Best results build air 20psi at dryer unplug red line you will air coming out.use your finger to stop air next unplug black line n probably don't have air coming out.. Problem is dryer..

I’m just wondering Shrek, my secondary builds to 112 every time, not 111 not 113 when the purge happens my primary’s at 120and my secondary’s at 112, could it possibly be the gauge in the dash?

How did you get the plugs out a allen or star tool?

Have you checked for leaks? Sounds like maybe a fitting, airbag, leveling valve, something along those lines. I would let the truck build air and shut it off as soon as it purges to hear for leaks

Great video! I’m in a 2015 Cascadia. I constantly see air tank pressure all over the place. That’s while running. 125, 135 and sometimes secondary drops to 100 then comes back. Pressure is not always even with both tanks. Could this be the issue? Bad check valve

Have you checked for any air leaks? Try bypassing your air dryer for a couple of miles to see if that helps.

Did you check for any leaks on the fittings or on any of the airlines? Specially on the line coming off the compressor

I appreciate the support 🙏🏽🙌🏽 So for the air system we have a shop that specializes in the air system and he told me the only way they have fixed the issue in the past was to cut the tank open, replaces the air valve inside and re weld the tank. So we decided to buy a new tank, given that it would be about the same if not more expensive to just fix.

Very useful to know. I have another problem if any one has a clue. A 5/8 hose going to from that tank to the front i think it’s for transmission, has a quick union connect by the engine in the chassis/ tight place, I changed the quick connect fitting 2 times with a piece of hose and 2 new connector but it keeps leaking after few days. Hopefully someone knows. I try to upload a video on my KZread soon

That union and area are a pain to deal with. What kind of fitting are you using, another thing I would do is zip tie the lines so they aren’t wiggling and getting loose. Good luck

The air tank should have multiple plugs to be able to bolt in the check valve. DM me on IG @ShreqBoi if you need more help

i dont have this problem but i do have an air problem. my air builds up with no problem but im loosing air pressure while idling and while driving down the highway. i cant hear any airleaks and i haven't found any airleaks spraying soapy water. any idea what it could be? my truck is a 2013 freightliner cascadia

There has to be a leak, maybe a break chamber, air bag, air dryer, or even your fan clutch

Sorry, just seeing this. I don’t know the exact number. But if you go to the dealer and ask the for the one way check valve coming off the air tank they should be able to help

Hey Shrek, I’ve got the same problem, now the secondary will build to 112 and stop there and the primary then purge at 120, i’ve got a 2020 Coronado glider, one question I have, do all air tanks, have that valve in the middle, now, since I have a glider, my tanks are different than a Cascadia but I still have one port at each end I can tap into, I’m going to do this tomorrow

The tanks have extra bungs that I used. If your tank doesn’t have extra bungs just go ahead and use a splitter

This was only done because you have a split tank correct? Some trucks have different tanks for primary and 1 for secondary which would solve it by replacing check calve on that tank correct?

So this truck has two tanks behind the driver side steps and then a longer primary/secondary tank by the driver side fuel tank. The longer tank is the one split into primary and secondary.

I was told by an International dealer that the check valve can be replaced with a long extension. I replaced my tank but it looked very similar to this, except the front part was a wet tank and that fed the primary and secondary.

@@johnmcdonald3231 I was thinking the same, the problem is ours was rusted out. And we ran the possibility of dropping it in the tank as well

So you just compromized your air system. The diapragm on your 4 circuit protection is starting to crack or tear. Find port 22 on the 4way protection valve and check the diapragm piston that opens the air pressure it might be sticky ,cracked or torn. Dont ever bridge out two circuits on a truck my friend. When you have a circuit blow out on you primary, in this case ,your secondary will fail also.

This was only done to bobtail the truck back to the yard to be able to properly repair the truck. But I agree, we try to always repair the truck with factory oem parts and we replace what’s damaged instead of doing Mickey Mouse jobs. Unfortunately this truck had an after market Governor as well that was bypassed and routed different from oem which I also had to fix. What year? I know our 2016+ freights have individual gauges and they have air lines going to them. Maybe remove cluster and start there

That is a good question, I wouldn’t be able to tell you if it’s possible but it’s worth a try

I have a 2005 Columbia. Air dryer purge valve wasn’t purging. Air pressure was building slow. I replaced purge valve and governor. Now it is not building pressure at all. Any ideas?

Also check the line coming from the compressor to the air dryer, they can become clogged and restrict air flow

@@shreqboi1 yep. I did both. When I bypassed dryer, air pressure did build to 50 but no higher. So I think that is at least part of the problem. I have changed the unloader valve in the compressor s well now. I saw that might be a possible issue.

@@mattwilliams3902 have you checked for air leaks in the air lines coming from compressor? Also if you can remove the air line coming from compressor to air dryer and put a gauge on it. This will help you make sure if it’s the compressor that’s not building enough air anymore

Thanks for getting back. This what solve my problem which drove me crazy for almost a year now. I have gone to bunch of mechanics and also tried to found leaks and fixed it myself yet. I am talking about changing from small fitting to air bags and dryer and my truck was still purging every two mins. Yesterday I ran into some trucker at a warehouse and he told me to change the whole air dryer cartridge not just the filter it self and it solved my problem. It drove me crazy for long time to a point I hated driving my truck. Hope it help someone out not saying what worked for me would work for other trucks just thought I would share it. Now truck is holding firm air pressure in both tanks for good 20-25 mins and doesn’t lose air out of the secondary like before 🙏🏻

Your some what right no offense I think your done a great job... But kw n Pete are not built the same... Pete n kw air distribution happens at the dryer if your check.. There's a red n a black hose next to each other red is primary n black for you secondary very easy to check and know that black hose is not longer working.... Again no offense I learned from you guys n maybe take a tip from us... Also never never unless is done what you did air system always ALWAYS primary charges 1st then secondary next never at the same cascadia Pete kw or Volvo.. Thanks looking forward to next VIDEO
