Impossible to say because, you can't magically teleport players across preceeding & suceeding generations to play against each other. Plus, the game is always evolving tactically , technically, along with increases in greater sports science to the game. Best thing one can do is rate the top player of each generation, *_within_* their generation : Di Stéfano 1950s. Pelé 1960s. Cruyff 1970s. Maradona 1980s. Messi/Ronaldo 2010s. I don't think there was a dominate player across the 1990s & another player, across for the 00s.

Goodbye, Diego! You single handedly won the World Cup for your country Argentina in 1986! Your were almost repeating it in 1990! I saw you play live on TV both the occasions! The world of football will always remember you! A true legend! May you rest in peace!!!
