I guess since I was always able to sing Pamina's part, I thought it was for a mezzo. I've heard it's a soprano part as well, not the difficult coloratura of the Queen of the Night but a soprano nonetheless.

I was very disappointed by the MOH 2017 production of Magic Flute. The whole opera made me felt it liked a circus or a cheaper holiday children play ground show. It was too much of stage crafts, horrible make up and awful costumes. I couldn’t enjoyed the beautiful Music of Mozart and the fantastic singers. Comparison with ROH production it is two different levels.

I had the opposite impression. It was funny and the stagecraft and costumes were so cool. I groan at the unimaginative and supremely dull Victorian costumes in the ROH production (eg, compare MOH's literally star-speckled queen of the night costume with the dull Carmen costume in ROH or MOH's whimsical bird costume of Papageno which is inspired by the actually drawing from Mozart's time vs the yet-another-Victorian-hobo jacket in ROH).
