An absolutely amazing performance by Malena Ernman of Dido's Lament from Henry Purcells opera Dido and Aeneas. This is a recording from a perfomance at Opera Comique in Paris.
I had the great privilege to see this production in Amsterdam and it was an experience I will never forget. So thank you to everyone that made that night an extraordinary memory!

Without doubt, the finest performance of this lament. So much artistry in the inflections.
Exquisite. In a number of her other video clips she is quite frivolous and silly, and then here she is just radiant and beautiful and poignant. So many singers shout out the top note in 'remember me', but she does the first with such desperation and the second with such pathos. Wonderful!

Indeed. I have been in love with this opera for more than fifty years, and have NEVER heard or seen such a magnificent rendering!

I only discover her now. One of the most beautiful voices I ever heard. Exceptional mother of an exceptional child.
Had to purchase the DVD. A must have for Purcell fans. The entire presentation was one of the best I have ever heard or seen. Malena Ernman does a remarkable job and has performed one of the best laments I have heard. Brava!

One of the most compelling tear-jerking deaths of the opera. Beautifully both sung and played. HATS OFF!
Ugh that was beautiful. I love how gentle she was on the high G on the final "Remember Me." Usually that part is sung so forte, but I really felt a sense of death the way she handled it. Just amazing!

Yes, Flagstad sung this note forte, and I love it...but this way is so beautiful too, it seems her last breathing.

All due respect, this is performed at EXTRA Baroque pitch, those are F5s in this performance, not Gs. Carry on.

like, when she gets blind her acting looks kinda silly, (dont know if dido get's blind in the opera, like someone to clear it up for me), but when she's on the floor her acting is simply fantastic!, the expresions are simply sublime!, was looking foward this lady's representation for a while, thanks!

(necropost but here we go) Dido actually stabs herself after singing the aria, but the director found this more emotional (no one can contest it, really). As to poison blinding, it really depends on the poison. Just from spiders there's a multitude of ways they can kill you, and symptoms also vary a lot
