And if Gene was working for the state at the time as well, he may be what's called a "mandated reporter" which means he is (was) bound by law to report any abuse of minors as soon as he is aware of it. Gotta be careful when speaking on any crime and you don't have an attorney present. You could be implicating yourself accidentally just by admitting you (Gene) where present when the crime was committed.
