I started reading comments before watching the vlog and was expecting something different. The vlogger clearly stated the owner of the company's name and his ancestry, yet I'm seeing seeing people stating the same as if that information was not presented. The owner of the company is Chinese by descent, which is the obvious that was stated. Most people commenting would say otherwise if they were in Europe or USA. EVERY black person in USA is classed as an African-American, even if he or she has never set foot in Africa. The same goes for any other ethnic group, Asian, Hispanic, etc. In the UK, you are Black Caribbean, Black British, Black African, any other black, and it's accepted, but when the vlogger says Chinese ancestry, it's seen as racist. The essence of the vlog was to promote a successful Jamaican business and the astute leadership of its Chinese owner to navigate the challenges and stay on top. Well done Elite Jamaica, for highlighting the cultural diversity of Jamaica and how when cultures blend, the result is success.

Alot of the instruments reggae artists learned to play were Chinese and Irish owned, but yet jamaicans say reggae is black music. Dem say vp records teef but no other local label has helped to push reggae around the world. Big up WI original Chinese jamaicans. Very few jamaicans know that the original Chinese and these new sets of Chinese aren't friends. The original Chinese ran away from this set you see coming here now. Buyer beware.

My childhood recollection of business owners from the 60's-80's in Kingston was that the Chinese Jamaicans owned bakeries and supermarkets - The Indian Jamaicans owned Jewellery shops and Pharmacy's and the Syrian and Jewish Jamaicans owned the clothing shops. That is a generalisation of course from the mind of a child. History will tell us that these peoples ended up in Jamaica usually as indentured slaves, so were paid wages; or fled from persecution in their homelands - so were often in a better financial position to start a business. Of course there are many that took wage jobs as well; contributing to the labour force and the development of the island. Out of many one people!

When you're in America you see these people with live together to every one of them can get their own even some East African practice this. But black people as soon as the child reach the age where he supposed to be an adult He's out there trying to struggle his own nobody is trying to do anything for development if a family has 10 kids every one of them is doing their supper thing and they can't get along.

Thank you for your delivery of the facts as I recall them also. I don't know about the other 13 Parishes, but in Kingston & St Andrew during the late 50's to mid 60's Bruce's Patties(Chinese Jamaicans) on Retirement Cres was King and the ONLY bakery to make Beef Patties with a crust to die for! Shout out to the Tastee group(Chinese Jamaicans) who stepped away from Bruce's in the late 60's, started a small bakery in Union Square, Cross Roads selling Patties, Coco Bread & Beef loaf and later built the flagship Tastee Patties on Half Way Tree Rd to accommodate the crowds & take the Crown from Bruce's. Tastee had improved the Patty and most of us had to have at least 2 daily!

The Jamaican patties are not a Chinese concoction. They are in fact based on the British Cornish pasty which the Colonials introduced and consumed in the colonies. Of course, Jamaicans adopted and made their own changes to the pastry. In fact, these patties were made in various households. and even sold and exchanged among neighbours. The Chinese really started to more fully commercialize the product by baking and distribution through their bakeries and "corner shops" And as they say; "the rest is history"

Own nothing and demand no reparations from England and Spain because “ we are all one” right? Then bawl and wonder why we are always at the bottom. This is a major reason for wealth gap. Blacks should try to own so they can pass on generational wealth and improve our future generations. We all start of from scratch which is not smart. My community had a black owned supermarket and it was a source of pride for us kids. We still shopped from all the business but its a welcome addition and positive outlook for future. I grew up in a time when blacks were not hired in the cibc bank till PJ was elected. We should highlight some black owned business to encourage youths.

Majority of major business in Jamaica are Chinese own. China knows if you control a country’s business sector then you can hold that country at ransom. Jamaican do not have a robust investigation body like the FBI or CIA to focus on a lot of these Chinese businesses people that were put in place decades ago to shape our business model. They are also lots of Chinese businesses in the USA however they are being watched we don’t have that capability.

I gave the video a chance despite not liking the title. Such a title would not be relevant 10 or 20 years ago. It isn't contrary to popular belief that the owners have Chinese ancestry as this is widely known by anyone who is Jamaican. Juici Patties is Jamaican owned, not Chinese owned. Jamaicans don't look at race first. The owners are Jamaican like any other Jamaican and that's intrinsically Jamaican culture. I like both Juici and Tastee. The business model of Juici definitely impacted Tastee as Tastee was primarily in the capital and Montego Bay and wasn't accessible to all Jamaicans. Juici came in and went to every corner of Jamaica and so many Jamaicans acquired the Juici taste which impacted Tastee when they were ready to expand. An example of this is Ocho Rios with atleast three Juici stores in a quarter mile radius and these stores are always full compared to Tastee store which entered the Ocho Rios market late. This dynamic is what is fascinating between to two business models. Tastee squandered an opportunity by not expanding when they were the primary patty shop in the country. Please be careful on how you focus on race when it comes to Jamaica. We do not want to be like our neighbors up north. Being Jamaican is what binds us.

Juici Patties is a JAMAICAN business and that is what should be focused on. The framing of the narrative is wrong, in my view. Jamaica 🇯🇲 is a multicultural nation and Chinese people became a part of that mixture in the 1800s, as did the Indian indentured workers and , earlier, the Jews fleeing the Inquisition, and all the other folks who came from different backgrounds: white, black, European, Asian, whatever. Jukie Chin is a Glenmuir High past student and he is as Jamaican as any of the other roughly 3 million of us.
