@@Graknorke ofc the gray death isn't real, it's just a comparison to the CV19 virus which, like the gray death, also came from a military, government, or state funded laboratory. It's obv not as deadly as the gray death was, but it's interesting that they were accurate in that China will be our enemy and they will develop some kind of virus that spreads globally.

@@XP-Tan well it's true that it doesn't really need to "render" anything, it still could be the case, as stated in the video, that due to memory limitations, instead of getting the entire NYC skyline, they only got a portion of it (a portion that happened to not include the WTC), and then doubled/flipped it for the remaining area, thus saving however many dozens or hundreds of kilobytes on a single in game texture, which also sounds pretty insignificant savings in the grand scheme for things to me

Honestly, even the head of security for the buildings knew they were gonna get hit again at some point. No one ever took him seriously. BUT, he made the staff practice fire drills on a regular basis, which is why the vast majority of the staff got out so quickly.

It's even more hilarious, when you consider the games plot heavily involves it's own in universe version of the patriot act.

Interesting I also read into the criticisms of it and it goes into even the theme of the whole game, people criticize it out of fear of potential abuse of surveillance powers that were set by the patriot act. They claimed that it can lead to the abuse of surveillance over millions of innocent lives, unwarranted invasions of privacy, and targeting of innocent individuals

Solidus wasn't the president by the events of the game. and also while Americans would have got upset about it because they're sensitive like that, ramming a giant aquatic command centre into Manhattan is not really THAT similar to crashing planes into the WTC

@@aligmal5031 that's always been the case, what you're describing is the general idea of subjectivity. one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter and all that. everyone's actions feel justified from their own perspective that's not new or novel. what WAS new and novel was terrorism being a constant front page issue that regularly came up in government etc. in the letter end of the 20th century it wasn't really a thing that got talked about that much, and to find anything comparable you'd have to go back to like pre-WWI with anarchist bombings and fears of such

Theres a simple answer to this. It wasnt a prediction, it was planned a long long time ago

It's inaccurate to say that Deus Ex was "ahead of its time" in the sense that nobody else made games similar to it at the time. It wasn't like "in 2000 there was this game nothing else was like and then 20 years later people started to make games like it". There were a lot of games similar to Deus Ex at the time. Like Thief the Dark Project immediately comes to mind. It was also highly influential on games later like Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines is essentially "Deus Ex but with vampires" Rather what happened was right after 2004 the gaming market dramatically changed and developers focused almost entirely on streamlining every game until it was as basic as possible gameplay wise. You can even see that with Deus Ex Human Revolution which released during this era and still had elements like Gears of War style cover shooting and regenerating health. It's only in the last few year publishers have started allowing developers to go back to experimental Deus Ex like design with their games which used to be more common.
