It quite the opposite. Uhuru and Ruto learned their lesson a hard way. Had he backed Ruto directly, things would have similarly gone shambolic like they did to Moi. I see Uhuru and Ruto as two smart guys out there, at least in regards to power.

No way Uhuru could let his legacy be tainted and abused that much just to make Ruto President. People are forgetting that Azimio has been so arrogant, overconfident, and bullyish; they were even chasing away Kalonzo. If it was not for the intervention of Uhuru, Kalonzo would either have ran or supported Ruto, in which case the loss would have been embarassing. Look at how they treated Weta and Musalia. Uhuru availed everything at his disposal to help Raila win, Azimio was just overconfident; massively underestimated their opponents and were not adequately prepared. Azimio should look for someone else to blame but not Uhuru.

When kenyans started to complain about inflation due to food prices, we all recall Rao saying that they were barking like dogs. On Uhuru's debts, Rao is on record defending the reckless borrowing that is now at a staggering KES 10 trillion. If the above is not enough to make a candidate lose an election, what would? The other factors that led to Rao's loss were the people running his campaign, how on earth did people like Junet, Joho and Atwoli, he of the "kateni miti Sugoi" become the lead speakers to counter the Kenya Kwanza jaggernaut that had the eloquent Wetaa and Ruto himself? Strategic planning is vital to a successful campaign and Kenya Kwanza"s strategy was miles ahead of anything Rao had.

From my own observations Uhuru and Ruto played their game of yangu kumi ya Ruto kumi well and for them to achieve it, Their presumed fall out had to happen and that's how raila blindly fell for the handshake that spearheaded it, he thought he was loved and would be handed the presidency on a shining silver platter, Otherwise had uhuru supported Ruto openly, its him who would have failed terribly Endorsements don't work in Kenyan presidency of politics, Uhuruto learnt their lesson in 2002 when moi did it to them and the worst they could support each other would be to repeat the same mistake

I am glad someone has put out this question and my answer is emphatic YES! Uhuru may have promised Odinga after the last elections before this one that he would throw his support behind him at the end of his term! Naturally,Uhuru couldn’t turn against his own Vice who has supported him for 10 years. For me,Ruto’s aspersions in his speeches against Uhuru were all planned for Odinga to know that Uhuru was real in his decision to support him but behind closed doors,they know what they are doing! I think on the whole,Uhuru and Ruto have acted and played it well. What rift at all between Uhuru and Ruto would make Uhuru take such an entrenched position to campaign against his own Vice!.The first of it’s kind,in my view! I will call it “THE PLOT” which was well executed! Politics has turned into “Politricks”. What a world! The smartest survive!

Uhuru supported Raila, but his ODM was fooled by overconfidence. The idea was that they had already won because Uhuru was gonna twist in their favor. They became overconfident, arrogant, and forgot to work hard at winning. Many did not even bother to vote thinking it was a done deal. Meanwhile, the UDA became more vigilant, and efficient and campaigned harder. So UDA won, while Azimio woke up too late.

For what benefit and to what end would Uhuru need to play Raila? It is too costly, Uhuru lost his backyard and spent a lot of time and resources in this misadventure. He also strained relationships with so many of his very strong friends, and relatives like Duale, Kungu Muigai, Muturi, and Anne Waiguru, among many others. Why would anyone go through such only to play Raila? That would be stupid. Uhuru does not own the government to give anyone. He can also lose as Moi's project lost, and that is exactly what happened here. Ruto won , Azimio lost. Don't blame Uhuru for your loss.

This Kenyatta-Moi-Jaramongi's transition sequence inheritance was planned way back...the lineage was Kenyatta, Jaramongi, then Moi, from there, Uhuru will take over, then Raila and end with Gideon...in those families, only Jaramongi's family were causing disruptions both the father and son...Finally, the lineage becase messy when Moi's plan to hand over the baton to Uhuru who was later to pass it to Gideon, kibaki trounced them and the rests in history!
