    I've had my ToneX for about 7 months but haven't really had time to really dig into it, your video has given me inspiration, thank you! I used a Helix for about 4 years but wanted to go smaller which is why I got the ToneX but have been filling in for Bass until we can find one but hopefully that will be soon so time to figure this out!

    Agree. If you’re just interested in amp and cabinet tones, then yes. ToneX has knocked it out of the park in terms of tone and value. However, it does not have all the other effects that Kemper, QC, Fractal, Helix, etc all have. So if you want an all in one device, then no, it’s not a Kemper or QC killer. But for hybrid boards (external effects pedals with amp in a box pedals) the ToneX is perfect.

    Thanks for sharing! Could you elaborate on why Kemper has more effects than ToneX. I thought you can download unlimited amount of IK or user created effects pedals. Perhaps I am misunderstanding the difference between effects and pedals. I'm interested in ToneX but mostly to use it as multi effects pedals like Boss Super Overdrive in 1, echo in 2, fuzz in 3. Would ToneX not be ideal for that scenario? Thank you in advance!

    I've never been more thrilled and inspired and addicted to guitar playing. I spent almost a decade hardly ever playing or improving. I was just uninspired by being stuck with the simple old way of doing things so I didn't care about guitar. But because of the influx of guitar tech and competition, I have endless ways to play. I love them all, modelers, profilers, plugins, solid states, class D amp pedals, traditional tube amps. So much fun! Don't know why people get all tribal over one form of amplification, we live in a world where you can do it all. And you'll only be a better player for being open-minded and expanding your knowledge and tonal palette.

I ordered a tonex and capture box. My plan is to create banks of clean, medium, and cranked for each amp. I will run this into a line 6 power cab with a couple pedals for od, delay, comp. Great video btw! I'm actually shocked that IK didn't come out with an all in one Amplitube/Tonex pedal with NAMM. I am guessing they are readying Amplitube 6 to compete with the Line 6 Helix Native/Hardware platform, but then again they dont release things on the NAMM schedule, and usually in Feb I think is when they drop all their hardware, maybe because YT has nothing else to talk about? It's clear that IK can deliver solid hardware now at a killer price, so I would suspect it's coming. What bothers me now is using the dual amp setups or using a modeled pedal for a boost, you need two of these things, and I would gladly pay $1500 for an all in one. But they better hurry because i'm buying a Fractal rack soon if not.

    The newly released Kemper *Player* just killed ToneX sales. That's why Kemper positioned themselves right next to IK at NAMM and sold thousands of units. I'm confused by the title of the video? You don't own a Kemper or the new *Player* model...correct?

  • @s.e.n3264
    @s.e.n32643 ай бұрын

    The answer is yes. The Kemper is dead. And as for all in ones. They're pretty cool, I'm currently using an AIN system. But it's not perfect. I plan on building a new board. ToneX, Plethora X5, Seymour Duncan powerstage 200, expression pedal, Jerry Cantrell Wah, Walrus Canvas stereo DI box, and maybe a Deadweld Duality DX. 1. ToneX for the amps and cabs. The amps I want to get for it are 5150ii, Savage 120, supercrush 100, SLO 100, HK Triamp mk3, Splawn competition, JCM800 and Dual Rectifier (Pre 500). All the dirt tones. For clean tones, yes those will work but.... AC30 and PRS Sonzera 50. 1.5. With cabs... all I need is a PPC412-C. My favorite cab. All I need. 2. Plethora X5 for all my effects. Nuff said. 3. The powerstage is there just in case I need to run a cab. 4. Expression pedal to have a Wah at the beginning of the chain. 4.5. Jerry Cantrell Wah is my favorite wah, this one will be placed last. So that it Wahs literally your entire signal chain. It's a very chaotic sound, but it sounds amazing. Don't recommend for most people tho. 5. DI box for sending to front of house if necessary. 6. Deadweld Duality DX is a maybe. It's the best boost pedal. No contest. It has a tubescreamer style circuit. It also has a second boost. The 2nd boost is a clean/transparent boost. Now... the DX version is special because you can actual combine both boosts to create a super boost. This is my perfect setup. From one Mike to another Mike. I know you love tubescreamers like me. So i definitely recommend checking out the Deadweld Duality DX. It is primarily used to metal, but since it has multiple boosts in one, it shouldbe fine. And one last thing. If you've never played a PRS Sonzera. PLAY IT! I've played one a few times, and the tone is incredible! Without a doubt my favorite clean tone of all time. They're more affordable than buying a new AC30, but still expensive.

    Fractal is modelling, this is capture technology. Completely different thing. One is adjustable, flexible, modelling the circuits digitally.. the other is like a photocopy or snapshot of an amp at a given setting. Capture technology sounds near identical to the amp it is capturing. This is a measurable thing. However, it's not flexible. If you dial in your own amp settings and capture it, you're set. If you want to tweak the knobs like a real amp, it sucks. Modelling is better for that. But real amps are even better than that. Fractal doesn't even have a capture technology available currently. Fractal make good stuff and have had the best modellers for the last 10+ years. But there is no number 1. Neural DSP plugins rival Fractal in the modelling side of things. In the end, there's just a series of choices and budgets. Ranging from real tube amps, amp in a box pedals, digital modellers, capture technology and plugins. They are all good in their own ways. The Tonex doesn't compete with Fractal, it competes with Kemper (outdated technology), and Quad Cortex (much more expensive).

Calling it now; cool concept, but I think the modeler algorithms (by a lot of companies) are getting too good to justify needing to capture an amp in the first place. 5 years from now, 10 tops, I bet no one is talking about capturing amps. ....Tube amps and Les Pauls are screwed when the boomers are gone, too...

RAM will become larger, processor dies will shrink, processor speeds will be faster while using less energy. The guitar world usually prefers the older way.. the vintage way.. it's weird like that. Like an old capacitor sounds better than a newer one that is actually better but doesn't sound as good. I'm not sure what boomers are but if I had to guess, I would say they are spoiled entitled people who think they deserve everything but don't have much skills to actually do anything. @@moonsama395 First thing is that it is all about preference.. so someone might prefer the sound of the Kemper vs the capture newer technologies. It adds something to the capture in terms of it's own character in the mids and EQ. Some people might prefer that. They've got some newer things liquid profiling, and on paper it looks good but so far for me.. I still prefer the more recent capture tech. Mainly QC and Tonex, which I consider the best currently. What I'm basically trying to say is that it might have more recent firmware updates or new features, but I'm still hearing the same basic core sound that the Kemper has always had. In terms of the quality of the capture. Why is it outdated? The same reason why a phone, GPU or CPU is. Or why Windows 11 is newer than Windows 7. This is based on listening to a lot blind tests in the last few years. There's plenty of these tests floating around online.. I encourage you to listen and judge for yourself. You might prefer the Kemper. I prefer older versions of Windows for example. Newer isn't always better.. but for capturing the sound of an amp, I do prefer those two options listed above. And this is a repeating pattern with lots of tests done by different testers. Andertons did a pretty good comparison within the last 12 months. But there has been many others as well.

    I can say with certainty as a guitarist I have never wished to have a Kemper Or any other kind of modeling apparatus I'm a Tube Amp player and always will be and when they stop making tube amps I'll stop playing guitar

    *It's days are certainly numbered. With my formal background in electrical/electronics engineering, it's nearly impossible for me to come to terms with the build cost to selling cost ratio lol.* Generally speaking, the majority of digital guitar devices cost less than the analog equivalent, and the cost of the average high end *commercial* modeler is another sickening ratio. The best digi unit I've owned is still the Zoom G5 because of the 12AX7 that is a post processor after the digital and goes to your amp or recording unit. Without that tube, it's just another digital unit. *In fact, all this new wave of fancy digital modelers, some of which I own, are still piss poor compared to that particular Zoom, but I still try to remain current with gear technology.* It mops the floor with current most Headrush, Line 6, Boss etc.

    Typical EE. THinks the selling price of a computer+software product should be the cost of the CPU and the ram. Value assigned to software: $0. This is a computer in a box, running software. 90% of the R&D cost for the Kemper is software. Go ahead and buy a box with a cpu and a DSP chip in it that costs $90, and ignore the software in the box, because that's how EE's always think. :-P Zoom is good value for dollar, but if you can't see the value in the software inside a Headrush, or Kemper, or Line6 helix, well....

    @@WarrenPostma you made it blatantly obvious you don't know 1 engineer let alone many with that arrogant and ignorant self righteous drivel. *I calculate everything from the cost of electricity, water, development and beyond, all the way to recovery costs for a new model.* I actually design and build equipment, you don't. I have everything from a CNC router to a laser scribe and most traditional shop tools. Headrush is terrible which is why I returned one of their flagship models, and Zoom walks all over Line 6; another brand I rid my last piece of equipment from late last year. *Before you continue with your narcissism, I play at a symphonic level and contrary to how young I look in my photo, I turn 46 early next month.* These units costing $1500 and even down to $600 are grossly overpriced. I see $600 analog units that I can build for literally less than $10 including all the hardware, my own labor and the cost to run my equipment. *You're a typical lazy ass trying to smear others because you worship corporate America and have low self-esteem.* You're way out of your depth and league in every regard.

    I second that! There's a reason we are seeing Fractals on a lot of stages.

    Yeah just said in another comment on here, if IK doesn't come out with a reasonably priced unit soon, I am buying the rack to mount in my desk.
