We're lucky people attend to their gold. Many Euro nations made provisions for their gold reserves before the war, sending it into hiding, the UK or especially America. Then, when confronted with invasion, some nations just barely saved their reserves, getting it to the safety of England in the face of the Blitzkrieg. Given all this, there is a great deal of missing gold, but only a fraction of what might've been missing.

In reality, the German rockets had little impact on the war. Guy literally said they killed 3k people, which is awful but 100s of thousands of civilians were killed on both sides due to carpet and fire bombing.

The impact was more psychological. With a regular air raid you still had plenty of time to detect the incoming bombers and either scramble fighters, manned AA guns, or go to an air raid shelter. With the rockets there little chance to detect them. So while they did kill fewer people overall due to accuracy issues the fact there were weapons that can come of no one still killing thousands no doubt would wore down anyone.

The diver planted the bronze bars and pretended they were gold, hoping to gain from the stories. He found no gold, only tried to pretend his bronze bars he had made were actually gold treasure... Which is smart way to gain more customers and business to his souvenir tourist shop he runs. Anyone could do that, I could have some lead bricks gilded with gold... Then make up some claim that I just discovered it hidden somewhere, call up the news people and next thing you know I'm on the newspaper headlines and confirming the myth of real gold being found. Once checked and found its not actually gold, they'd give it back to me and the newspapers won't really care as the anticlimax to that rumour wouldn't be an attention grabber.

I think Swiss banks were forced to disclose what they were holding from the war only a few years ago. Some, I think, we’re able to be returned to family - as well they should, What the Vatican has will never be known , bar some catastrophic event . That dude from the London school of economics is kind of annoying saying oh it’s unlikely there’s no gold to find and it’s driven by rumor. In the Philippines for instance a lot of people have found a few bars. It’s been documented. The president of the Philippines decades ago stole a fortune of gold. Some of that gold the CIA and military took from the Philippines but there’s still some. It’s absurd the US left a lot of gold in the Philippines but magically got it all in europe.

Just look at the U.S. Treasure hunters have found boats in areas and some areas became ocean preserves or parks and you can’t remove anything. It’s documented there’s ships but the government would rather let the salt water destroy it because one they don’t care about preserving things and second because they don’t want to spend the money to preserve ships if they are recovered.

I had a co worker that used to be in the U.S. military. Decades ago when he was in europe they found a cave or an opening and went in and they found some guns. And then other people showed up and forced the soldiers to leave. And like he told me he just wanted a cool ww2 gun. I trust that guy much more then some academic from London.
