Did My Volvo 850r’s PCV For $40!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Thanks to Robert for his video guidance on cleaning the ports. You’re the man!
Make sure to get three feet of this heater hose (www.ebay.com/itm/5-8-ID-FlexF...)
I saved $240 by doing this, you can save up to $200! This method should cost you around $75 vs $280 from FCPEuro
Make sure to hit me up on instagram @850platty for any questions comments or concerns. Thanks and enjoy!

Awesome info, thanks for saving us $$$! Just a note to anyone planning on doing this project, make sure you drain out the oil pan (and obviously refill) before starting up the car so all that crud that was pushed down from the ports doesn't circulate back through the engine. 👍

Wow, great video man! I like how you talk through some of the stuff logically. Helps for people like me who don't really know what all these hoses and ports do and usually just try to follow the instructions step-by-step. For instance, I had no idea those holes in the block went down to the oil pan!! If I had known that, I would have just scraped/pushed the stuff down there rather than try to pull it all out (since PCV should be followed by oil change anyway). Personally, I'd probably rather just buy a new system to save time and have more peace-of-mind (which is what I did). But it still helps to watch this video to learn more about the PCV system. Kudos

Damn. I've been trying to educate myself on the PCV system because I need to fix mine and this is BIG help. I've been dreading buying the big expensive hose that I know I'll break during disassembly and this replacement is great. I'm gonna replace it like that as well. Thank you!

TwentyTwo22ThirtyThree 22 No problem man! PCV on those is a little different but same idea, clean what is durable and replace what seems flimsy. Like in the video, I would start with a glove test while engine hot, that will tell you if you need PCV. If it blows up the glove then it needs PCV service. Good luck. 👍

@@omarplat334 I have a question though, I actually just finished doing the glove test on my car, but does the car have to be at operating temperature first? I'm here in Canada, so it's about 45F here, and the car had only been idling for a few minutes, but it's got a very strong vacuum when putting the glove over

Good tips on the hoses. I have heard of some guys cleaning the box and still having vacuum issues due to internal failures in box. Given the labor to replace I'd probably replace box with new one.

On the newer Volvo models with internal valves and diaphragms, that may be possible. As shown in one of pictures it is pretty much open inside, and would not be the case here thankfully!

Yeah Im gonna check my PCV box when I do this. But my car has 533k. So i expect itll be just li ke everything else, and the Plastic at my age, Its usually just better to replace. You do not need a volvo OEM Box. I see my mechanic use those Dreaded UROparts ones, he says UROParts is hit or miss but that PCV box is cheap and lasts 10 years easily. Figurd id mention it, since i planned to do exactly what you do, but i did order the Uroparts box, but if i can clean out the original one will do that, On cars ive seen at the shop, ive seen these so full and caked with oil that i dont know how one would clean it ever.

do you have an aftermarket exhaust? When you started your car in the "Before PCV" clip, it had a really nice growl from the interior. But then your shots from in the engine bay sound exactly like my engine. So I'm curious how you got that sound?
