Did MMA Come From Kung Fu? Analysis

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I think by now everyone has asked this question before. Where did MMA come from? Some say Isreal others say Japan, Sifu Phu says Kung Fu.
Maybe the truth is somewhere in between?
Regardless of its wing chun, boxing, mixed martial arts, or anything in between. The bottom line is we are all united with our love and passion for the martial arts.

I know in the very early days, the full contact Kung Fu fighting community in Chicago flocked to UFC fighting. Early UFC had much more lax open rules, compared to our own tournaments. It was a natural move. Thats why you never see and MMA destroys Kung Fu video coming out of Chicago. Maybe BJJ was one of the cornerstones, but without a HUGE full contact Kung Fu community, UFC, and MMA would never have happened. And dont forget Karate. Those guys also had a full contact fighting community that had a huge part in building MMA too. Other than the way it was promoted on line, MMA is nothing more than traditional martial arts with BJJ added.

Lao Sifu Chin Siu Dek (Jimmy Woo) brought San Soo to the U.S. and was the first member of his family to teach San Soo to anyone not family. San Soo has five philosphies: Toi Ga, Li Ga, Hoi Ga, Fut Ga, Hung Ga. Each one addresses different styles or ways to counter attack an opponent. Fut Ga addresses the relationship between the mind and the body among other things. My Sifu spoke about that relationship and included one's breathing and called it "Total Body Movement." In San Soo when a student must use the art he/she goes to work with "NO RULES" because a mugger is operating with no rules; thus, a student meets the opponent with NO RULES. I used some San Soo about 5 times early on as a white belt and maybe yellow belt; I have not used it since then because one gains wisdom and considers "What is to be gained and what is to be lost in a fight" as my Sifu pointed out. Confidence in one's skill and knowledge becomes stronger and stronger as one continues their art so fear is replaced with wisdom. Lao Sifu Chin Siu Dek is quoted as saying, "Why kill when you can maime, why maime when you can injure, why injure when you can embarrass, why embarass when you can walk away." I have a habit now of avoiding arguements with people I think may become violent, conversation with sketchy looking people, just leave a scene where people seem to be getting out of control. But I concur that Kung Fu including San Soo is an aggregate of various arts. Be safe everyone, be wise, or get wisdom.

When your Kung Fu is good, you can usually see problems long before they manifest.

MMA evolved from deciding which moves don't kill someone. Lee's book has about 19 ways to kill somebody. If MMA fighters were allowed to use any move, they would kill each other, and that's not politically correct, so it is like boxing in the way that it is designed to maximize the entertainment value and time spent fighting and minimize the injuries. If someone were training in both styles and became proficient, they might have some extra grappling skills from mma but they really don't want to be conditioned to "safe" fighting if their attacker is armed.
