I'm not sure I agree with a lot of the points raised here. Gane might never be a champion, but many a man comes and goes in this sport without ever winning a belt, it isn't the be all and end all of a career. Gane is a martial artist, not some pub brawler. He is there to be clinical and precise, not to just wildly flop his arms about and hope something lands. He is there to test his own skills against someone else, and sometimes the opponent is the better man, it doesn't matter. That to me is exciting, we can all learn from his displays of skill, see what works and what doesn't and we can learn from his failures. The UFC is a better place with him in it than without.

I think what got him in the ring is Jon Jones' aura, when he joined the UFC in france interview he said a few times he admired Jon Jones and he's one of the reason why he got motivates to switch from MMA. He got impressed he and he lost it really fast, a headlock like this is not devastating on your moral, it hurts to lose yes but Cyril is the kind of guy who copes fast realizing he made it up until JJ which quite the achievment already; how many UFC fighters would have had this kind of opportunity?

Gane being a great example. But when it comes down to a fight with a KILLER, they fall short. Obviously angry beefed up guys would get smoked without formal training, but you get someone in there like Jones who is both highly skilled AND has the savage instinct in the octagon, very difficult matchup for a prettyboy clean cut fighter like Gane. And I like Gane too he’s a super likeable character, build of a champ, but not the heart of one.

The Russian machine is drinking vodka and not Howler Heads in the weeks leading up to the fight. Out of solutions, the UFC turns to the man, the myth, the legend, Andrei "The Pitbull" Arlovski who was supposed to fight on the undercard. It looks like Arlvoski is no match for Jones, the Belarus is getting mauled for all 4 rounds but with 30 seconds left on the clock and Jones on top of him, he manages to find the last strength left of his career and get Jones's achilles heel and submits Jones to regain his championship in the same way he did almost 20 years before. I don’t think he has to stop every takedown or even win the fight but if Spivach just dominates him with wrestling I think his chances of getting another title fight or winning one are over. If he shows up and is able to defend some takedowns and/or initiate good scrambles I think he can still compete at the top of the division even if Spivach does beat him via wrestling.. he just has to show SOMETHING to counter it.

It was the combination of Jones and Francis. Francis (whos a mediocre wrestler at best) managed to expose Gane’s weakness for 3 rounds even on 1 leg. Then, Jon comes in…outstrikes Gane for a minute, takes him down 2 times with ease and gets the easiest submission of his career on the #1 heavyweight. Gane will never be champion, he will never beat Jon or Aspinall, and if time continues, Almeida will dispose of him

Gane's performance against Jones was pathetic, there is zero positive takeaway from that fight. Ngannou was injured and an absolute shell of himself in the fight because of it, yet Gane still couldn't get it done. That's absolutely embarrassing. Yeah the Tuivasa fight was great fun, but Tai is pretty one-dimensional if we're being honest, not the best win.

A larger light heavyweight that is good at wrestling can beat most of the heavyweights in the UFC. We have seen this happen recently with Jon Jones and Jailton Almeida, in which the latter could be argued that he isn’t a true heavyweight and he still destroyed Jairzinho just by simply being a good wrestler. Elite wrestlers will always rise to the top by default because takedown defense and grappling, especially in this era, is absolutely abysmal in the heavyweight division.

Just utter dominance, and anyone currently in that division has little chance, all fighting for No.1 Contender til he is gone. Maybe if someone like Izzy, Volk, Islam or DJ if still in UFC ate one of those Super Mario mushrooms we would have an interesting division but Jon wants to be wherever he can be dominate like he is now anyway, and looked at as the GOAT as much and completely as possible. To me, heavyweight was actually - in reality - ALWAYS gonna be so, so, SOOOO much more a piece of cake for Jon than light heavyweight ever was for him, and even then, whenever he actually applied himself, even decently (at LHW), he was going to beat everyone out there, at least in the world we live in, devoid, as it were, of a TRUE match for his artistic capacity for fighting - he deeply understands how to be extremely damaging, extremely efficiently, to another human being - and that's a fucking ART. Sad he couldn't believe he could do so without resorting his own little nasty version of speed ("mother's little helper") - the steroids, which allow you to recover from anything, always, every single fucking day with straight-up miraculous impact, whether it's any kind OR degree of physical abuse and training, or almost any kind OR degree of alcohol and partying. That - THAT - would have shown his inner pussy, and all his inner failings, to the whole world. (But of course, he never would've been exposed to the world without the steroids lifting him above and across what-all would have OTHERWISE been his early self-destruction in life, anyway - he resorted at a young age to what is the "endless power-up" and the "endless extreme hormonal motivator" ... and combined it with his high self-esteem, his strong sense of identity, his own family's athletic pedigree and their high athletic standards, and his own inner visionary, creative, artistic capacity for severe damage to an opponent... not to mention the awesome and worthwhile benefit and advantage that the good green _rightly_ gives you/us, to connect to your artistic dreams... And, ALL together: we have the person, the life, the accomplishments, that we now know as "Jon Jones.")

@@noahmanc2 because its capitalizing on the fact of him fighting in France anyway. Its not like they go to France often and they still get the huge draw of him fighting in France for this fight whether he loses or not, and who knows where his career might be by the time they make it to France again. They've already done their initial push for him, he lost to Francis and they matched him up against Jon and im sure Jon winning that was their preferred outcome so at this point they are just capitalizing as much as they can as soon as they can. His stock may be less in the future, things come up, something could go on and end up potentially being years before they go to France again so the smart move is, they are having a card in France (which im sure the location has been planned for a long time like most) so they will put their France guy on there. But its def a losable matchup for him and personally i think i even lean towards Spivac. Simply put, either way it goes and even with them putting it in France, they most def. didnt give Gane a layup for this event.

In all honesty, there is only one major hole in Ciryl Gane's fighting, and it's obvious, which is the grappling. Sure, he has some submissions on his record; however, unfortunately, it isn't enough to compete with people like Jon Jones, Tom Aspinall, etc. I say these because these are very well-rounded strikers but also are very dominate on the ground. All in all, I still am a major fan of Ciryl Gane; his striking is so crisp, but he also earned my respect when he fought Tai Tuivasa personally was such a great way of looking at how different people participate in this sport. I say that because Ciryl Gane went out there with no trash talk, no funny business, nothing just went out there incredibly humble and, most of all, excited to fight he is doing this because he has a passion for fighting and loves it so much he was smiling and having some laughs with Tai Tuivasa mid-match. That right there makes me like him a lot tbh his personality and his great striking, all he has to do is learn to take down defense, and well, all there is to grappling, and he would be such a force to be reckoned with.

Wait what, why wouldn't you want to see Jones vs Gane 2? If he beats Spivak and shows that he's worked on his wrestling and his TDD by stuffing his takedowns, why wouldn't you want to see him get a second chance? The chance of him getting finished that quick and in a freak way like that are pretty unlikely so I still think it could be a decent fight. Everyone always mentions how he's only been training MMA for a few years, but then is also ready to say he's finished after his wrestling is shown to not be top in the division. When you don't have a background in it, proper technical wrestling and wrestling defense is the most difficult thing to learn and takes the longest. That being said though, he does need to train with or bring in a proper wrestling coach if he wants to get better. Someone like DC I think could do wonders for him. As for a killer instinct, a smaller part of it is his personality, but mainly it's that he just doesn't really care about fighting that much. To him it's just a sport and a way to make money, which is fine, but it's obviously not going to bring out a fire in him. It's also not a career profession for him, he wants to make as much money as he can and get out early.

So I see someone like a tom aspinall winning against him. He has very powerful strikes and most importantly leg kicks as Jones legs are pretty suspect and can also stuff takedowns or potentially even try and implement his own grappling which may be effective due to his size and crazy good jiu jitsu. Plus he's much faster and younger, one of the youngest in the division in fact. So yeah all in all out of everyone I think Aspinall would be the one to beat jones.
