Did Jesus and the Holy Grail come to Britain?

Ойын-сауық

Did Jesus and the Holy Grail come to Britain? TV historian Tony McMahon investigates the places in Britain where Jesus Christ is said to have come with his uncle, Joseph of Arimathea - according to gospels not accepted by the church and medieval legends. Centuries ago, it was believed that Jesus lived and worked as a teenager in the village of Priddy, which Tony visits. And then Joseph of Arimathea returned after the crucifixion with the Holy Grail burying it at nearby Glastonbury and founding the now ruined abbey. If Jesus did come to Britain - it explains the missing years between his childhood and his ministry. But is it true?

Wow - I'm 84 and I did not know that the hymn "AND DID THOSE FEET IN ANCIENT TIMES...." was about the story of Jesus in England - had never in fact thought about what I was singing as a kid !!! How fascinating. Of course that hymn's music is part of my life as a Brit so it gives me goosebumps anyway, but it will even more so now I realize what I'm listening to !!!

I love Glastonbury and I've been there on many occasions. There are so many stories of J of A and the Holy Grail. A tale from the early 20th century states that after Sir Galahad saw the Grail and went up to heaven the Grail was taken by a priest to mid Wales and a church and then a monastery were built especially to house and protect it and eventually it became the monastery known as Strata Florida. In another version the Grail was kept secretly at Glastonbury until the time of the "dissolution of the monasteries" but abbot Richard Whiting heard about the impending closure of Glastonbury and had the vessel taken "over the impassable mountains" to Strata Florida. Eventually the Cup was taken to Nanteos manor by the last seven monks of Strata Florida who died off one by one. The last of the monks on his deathbed told the lord of the manor what the cup was and instructed him to keep it. The cup is now kept in the National Library of Wales and is known as the Nanteos Cup or the Nanteos Grail.
