Maybe controversial but I feel like any game that is clearly aimed towards children should not be allowed to have microtransactions.

@ Idk the game felt pretty aimed at children but can be enjoyed by adults to me when I played it (I have gamepass so I didn't pay for it). Disney things tend to have a very sanitized feel to them that you don't get from games that are intended for adults.

This is exactly why I didn't buy into this game. Paying for early access is something Indie games do to RAISE THE MONEY to complete the game. Disney never needed to do this. It's DISNEY! If they wanted to make a Free to Play game they would have made it, released it and raked the money in with all the micro transactions they want. Instead they're charging for a 'Free to Play Game', DLC, and in-game currency BEFORE the full release. From the moment I heard about this game I saw the greed.

It's Gameloft, not Disney (they just license Disney characters), but yes, the same thing applies. Gameloft are already a successful company, owned by the billion-dollar Vivendi. They don't need to be doing an early access system designed for indie developers.

disney has a bad history with how they treat game studios, they usually just sell licenses to make games basically renting out the charaters because the last time they ran a game company it failed. crashed and burned. though that may be because it was the first thing they cut funding to when their movies did poorly and needed to cut costs.

THANK YOU for talking about this and being willing to call this out. I feel a major issue people are having is not about the expenses, but the lack of honesty and blatant disregard of the loyalty and trust the consumers had, and it's what's causing the massive backlash. It's a spit in the face to its community. I remember when the game first came out they drove a huge amount of attention and sales to this game being FREE TO PLAY, and now they're going back on their word because they want to earn more money. I've paid for it when it came out and played at least 200+ hours and I definitely don't think it's worth the expensive price. I've seen some people say that they want to support the devs in updating the game but like. You can literally do that already with microtransactions AND DLC. And the game is STILL RIDDLED WITH GAMEBREAKING BUGS. What does that tell you about where your money is going?

one of the only major gripes i personally have with the game is the lack of things to actually do once youve finished whatever update they throw at you. there are no daily quests, no reason to even chat with the villagers if youve heard all the dialogue they have to offer and they all cap at lvl 10 which you can get to waaaaaaay too fast. other than that ive yet to buy additional moonstones past buying the ultimate edition a while back, unless youre the type of person who fall for fomo type of deals you can easily get through the game without spending much at all. i just dont think the game is ready to leave early access it doesnt feel finished at all.

Their shop isn't even overpriced you can afford most things in it just by participating in dream snaps and the battle pass gives you your moon stones back. Compare this to other free to play games like fortnight where the shop changes every day with items costing upwards of 2000 premium currency with no way of making more than 200 premium currency every 3 months. On top of that they have 2 subscription services and a battle pass Then theirs Overwatch which charges $60 for skins, makes you pay for every main story update and locks heros behind the limited time battle pass and if you miss it you have to pay for them. Then there's destiny 2 another free to play game where story dlc costs $70 and to get outfits and weapons, you have to buy the battle pass. Meanwhile in Disney dreamlight vally I haven't paid a single cent in micro transactions and I havent had any issue affording things in the premium shop and have gotten and completed every battle pass with only the moon stones from my initial purchase. The game only costs $30 Canadian where most pay to play games cost $80 for just the base game. Test the ultimate edition is expensive but that is completely optional and gives you even more moonstones with it. I really don't feel like them changing up especially looking at speed Storme and what happened after it whent free to play. If anything this is a good thing, it just is crappy that they waited so long to tell us

I agree completely!! They’ve monetised every aspect! It’s one thing changing from free to paid - and taking over a year to announce said change 🙄 but I can appreciate it’s probably better for the game overall. Things change, we move on. I cannot however justify making the game paid, the expansions paid but still see micro transactions to access in game content?! Like you said, pick a lane! No one should be losing out on an item because of funds or being unable to play everyday when they’ve already paid for the game!

I quit pretty quickly though, didn't like the premium shop in a paid EA game. If they stick with this model for the full release I won't return, it still has the freemium mobile vibe that I do not appreciate in a pricey buy to paly title. I just learned about this game recently, and from what I’m seeing, this game looks like an alpha stage. The lack of smooth-dynamic animations, the unpolished ui and dialogue, the awkward lighting that puts most characters in shadow. It does have a beautiful art style, as Disney always does, but the game itself doesn’t even feel satisfying to look at. Not to mention, when the a huge chunk of game is building and decorating, the claim that locking items and decor behind micro transactions isn’t “paywalling gameplay” is just a lie

This reminded me of when I tried to return to Monster Hunter World, the expansion added quests that were very difficult for players at low levels and with lower level gear to complete alone, and even after farming for better equipment, those new quests were still difficult. Coop is the only way to do those quests for the average player, but when you played on PlayStation, coop was a feature you needed to pay for. It seemed like you paid for the game but then had to pay to play the game you already paid because you couldn’t play it alone otherwise. This turned me away from the game, especially since I returned to it at a time when the next game in the series had been released, so not many frequent players were left, and it’s not definite that you would always have other people joining your quests. Anyway, this is the first thing I could think of when Satch was explaining how you pay for Dreamlight Valley, then pay for dlc as well as the in game currency.

This is why I stopped playing the EA after about 6 hours of gameplay. Once I saw the moonstone offer, I noped and uninstalled it right away. I'd rather spend $29.99(that's $10 cheaper than Dreamlight's BASE game) for Coral Island (or ‎$24.99 if you buy it now while it's still in Early Access. Don't worry, full version is gonna be released in Nov 14th this year. So basically you saved $5 no sweat). I bought the EA key years ago and even in EA, there were so much content it honestly surprised me. The game is similar genre to Dreamlight Valley and Stardew, farming, ranching(you can get peacock/peafowl and Llama folks!),fishing, combat, collect stuff etc. The world is rendered in full 3D. And the 2D arts(NPC portraits, item icons etc) were inspired by Disney/Pixar style. The game itself revolves around restoring the ocean and its environment and cultural & racial diversity. Rather than rely on brand loyalty and microtransaction to keep it alive. With MORE content incoming in future updates(which is gonna be FREE). And it's made by veteran devs who actually cares about players input and not how fat their bank accounts are. And all of the DLCs for the game so far were 100% made & donated for charity. Downside, this is a PC(Steam) game, it's not a mobile game. But it is Steam Deck compatible, and also will be released on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Nintendo Switch version is planned to be released sometime in 2024 though, if you want to wait. Multiplayer(up to 4P) are also planned sometime in 2024.

Just feels cash grabby that now you can get essentially the base game, expansion and gold edition content (which I’ll get anyway) for the same price, if not lower, than what someone who has supported the game from the start (choosing to pay a high price rather than just waiting a year - or so we though - for it to be free) is getting? Sure I got extra content when I purchased it but would I rather have a few cosmetic items or have been told the truth that i have essentially thrown £30 in the bin? Hmm, I’ll take the £30. Can’t support this game any longer, my cash grab money will still funnel to the sims as much as I am upset with myself for that too.

As soon as monetization was introduced in the game my sister-in-law uninstalled the game for her daughter and blocked the game from ever being downloaded. She explained to her daughter why she was blocking the game. I have a very sneaky suspicion they have known for more than few that it wasn't going to be F2P. The game on the Switch is a walking mess. Filled with bugs and other issues. Issues in other platforms too. But mostly on the Switch. They shouldn't be releasing a game that is riddled with bugs. Honestly I am not surprised. I said right from the start this game will never ever go F2P, ever. Yup! I was right. Knew it!

Sims 4 being my literal ONLY exception because I can't afford the ridiculous game packs that should be included in base game anyway, but yeah I really hope everyone who was dropping money on Dreamlight? Yeah, stops. Disney doesn't need this cash grab gimmick to make quality games. They are friggin loaded.

The thing is, the micro transactions are verry verry not necessary. You can get the primium currency verry easily every week and afford everything else n the shop and the battle pass with verry little effort. I haven't spend any money on micro transactions since the game lunched and I have pretty much everything from the premium shop and battle passes. The game only costs $30 Canadian if you bought the ultimate edition for a free game, that's on you and not necessarily bad but it's not worth getting upset about. and the dlc is only going to be $30 compared to destiny 2 which is free but dlc costs $70. We get plenty of free characters and quests almost every month where Overwatch 2 charges for characters, skins and each individual story update while offering bobe of the premium currency at all and don't even get me started with fortnight and their daily premium shop with pretty much no way to earn premium currency for free and their two subscription plans and battle pass. Disney dreamlight vally does have micro transactions but it is far from as bad as any free to play game out there right now and has a lower price point than any pay to play game right now with most of them costing $80 just for the base game. Especially looking at how Disney speed Storme turned out after going free to play, I'm verry happy that dreamlight vally won't be fallowing the same path I also dont think its as bad as the sins 4 yet at least. Like i saud ive only had to pay for the initial game and havent felt the need to spend anything else yet after a year of playing and getting most of the items from the premium shop and battle pass. Yes ill have to pay $30 to get the doc but thats better than $60 for a expansion pack in the sims 4.

See I'm okay with it not being F2P. Also the DDV Reddit for 6 months was nothing but negative about it being F2P. GL listened and pulled that aspect. Speed Storm is now F2P and the micro transactions are wild now. Gonna point out that these are the same people who WILLINGLY buy Kits and Packs from SIMS for more that have significantly less content or buy single map expansions in COD and Battlefield for the same amount with less content. Like it really feels like the people who play this game have never played an online MMO. It feels like this game is going in the direction of WoW or FF online. They're trying to make it big and follow the giants in the industry who already set the standards. I feel for ppl who were waiting but, at the same time I was waiting with so much anticipation for the second Jedi game. I have a PS4 and they said nope its only playable on PS5. NO ONE batted an eye even tho they gave stupid reasons as to why its only a next gen console game. So I either budget for it or I watch someone play it. No biggie. Them being mad about it not being cross platform play, meaning the game transfers DOESNT EXIST ANYWHERE. Even in bigger games like Destiny, FF Online, WoW, etc you have to buy for that console/PC or you don't play it at all. This is not a GL issue. This is a standard cause of coding being different between platforms. On the DDV Reddit someone said "well most games choose 2 sources of income. Not every option." Tell me you've never played an online MMO without telling me you've never played one. FF Online has a premium store, you pay for an online subscription AND you pay for every expansion that hits the floor. It's STANDARD. It's kinda frustrating to hear people dog on GL for stuff that they are not the only ones doing it. Like wut? It really feels like the people complaining are just complaining to complain. Just say you want the entire game for free and don't want to pay developers what they deserve for their work cause you "deserve" it as an early access member. It's shorter, to the point, and cuts through the whining/complaining on the toxic cesspool that is the DDV Reddit.
