You really need a skydio 2+ for this kinda of thing, the tracking is gps based with the beacon and you’ll have a lot more success

I feel your pain. I have the same issues overland in New Mexico. Net, net it isn’t the 2s strong suit. Shadows, trees, evolving shapes all add to 2s confusion and are unfortunately a part of active tracking any active athletic or motor sport subject.

Crazy thought. Maybe... Just maybe the reflection or brightness in the back ground from the snow. I wonder because when you were skiing on snow that was packed down already, it seemed to do much better... Also the shadows from the trees.

I agree all that white I think was throwing it off. Once it hit terrain that was a bit choppier with trees it seemed to home in on the subject just fine.

Interesting video I am not sure why it keeps losing visual of you. I have tested mine and it has been absolutely flawless. Maybe it is because of the snow making it difficult to track. I have a few videos on my channel letting it follow me on my bike riding on the trails and it has been very accurate and avoided tree branches etc.

I dont know if you know this little trick yet but this i what my friend did . He had and extended usb chord connected to his phone and he would keep his phone where it is easy to access, you can also set new homepoint based on your location aswell

It's disappointing that Active Track is still so crap for skiing. You would expect the high contrast of a dark skier against completely white ground would be easy for it. At least it looks like the newer ones do follow you down the hill though and maintain consistent height off the ground. With my OG Mavic Pro it would just stay at the same horizontal level throughout the flight, meaning it would end up very high above you once you've gone downslope, very annoying!

I think the drone is acting weird cuz of the cold temperature. my go pro 8 never gets recorded correctly once it becomes really cold. It affects the battery and the device itself. But your footage looks pretty good! hope DJI and Go pro come up with a better solution when in a cold climate. @2:23 is a great shot! @1:45 is a great shot too. I don't think I would use "ActiveTrack Parallel mode" for my video from watching your footage. Good to know!

Itt was not very cold that day. Around freezing which is within operating temperature. Also at the beginning I take a warm battery out of my pocket, which is the key component in the cold. Thanks though. It can get good shots but you must have patience

@@danpets1910 I see! Thanks for the tip!, keeping warm batteries before recording. I think i'm going to get myself a drone. Personally, I thought drone shots were cooler than shots taken from a helicopter when I was watching Freeride World Tour.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who had issues with active track. Looks like this feature is unreliable on the Air2s.

Your problem in the upper path was the line, your skies drew. The KI can't handle it, when the ground under the object changes.

Looks like the tracks in the deep snow was throwng it off. Brighter clothes could help with deep powder. Yor image appeared to blend in on turns confusing the drone.

You could also use a mini 2. Video quality is not quite as good.

Active Track 5.0 on the Mavic 3 isn't any better...lol. If DJI doesn't fix it probably going Skydio 2+

It is not bad. Still good track. But you would choose more close distance to follow you back..

That's cool! But honestly I expected the drone to follow you a bit better. Gonna try it out tomorrow by running through a forest! Wish me good luck that my drone doesn't crash into a tree. *fingers crossed*

If AT 4.0 is this tetchy with one isolated subject on a white canvas, how bad was version 1.0? 😂 TBF though, it did seem to have more trouble when you weren't moving through the frame laterally. It was like it didn't interpret your diminishing size in the frame as you having moved away.

that left and right camera panning back and forth is disorienting and does not look good. A lil bummed. I feel like my mavic 2 had better active track. Thanks for uploading

Good video, maybe you should try next time with brighter clothes or a color that is easier for the drone to recognize.

Too steep or too fast and it lost me. When I found the sweet spot like the second half of the video it does well

Yes thats terrible, mine tracks awesomely,I have the ai2 also And honestly the air2s seems a bit more temperamental...it does subtle strange random things at times, my air2 is literally perfect in terms of its behaviour

@@Panther- I picked up the air 2 s a few weeks ago and it does an amazing job of tracking me through trees but I do agree it sometimes does random things at random times but it still does an amazing job

I think it is the elevation change. It doesn't want to change its starting altitude, so when the skier descends it struggles to keep the tracking from a different relative vertical distance

@@TexasCorgiGun I've never tried it snowboarding or anything, but motorcycle riding and some other things it seemed to to a good job. Maybe it's the bright white background.
