Diane von Furstenberg - ‘Art is an emotion’ | Christie's

The fashion icon, and author of the new book “Own It: The Secret to Life,” talks with Christie's about her art collecting style, her advice to women artists, and living life as a woman in charge.
The modern day definition of a renaissance woman, Diane von Furstenberg's titles include designer, business woman, fashion icon, writer, wife, mother and grandmother. The 74-year old dynamo also spent the pandemic writing Own It: The Secret to Life, a new pocket-sized A-Z guide full of sage advice on how to live an empowered life, published by Phaidon on International Women’s Day. Sara Friedlander, Christie’s Deputy Chairman of Post-War and Contemporary Art, caught up with the renowned entrepreneur and philanthropist over Zoom to talk about her new book, how art enriches her life, and her friendship with Andy Warhol.

Feminism is pretty funny. It isn't really femininity she is talking about. It's gender control. Motherhood is no longer a topic or consideration and yet the development and nurtouring of good progeny may be our primary reason for being here . No one talks about how gratifying the experience is when done well. I pray they will awaken their better angels soon.

Good interview, however not all mothers love and want better for their children. That statement is not true and I dislike it. Sometimes mothers are looking for meal tickets from men and get knocked up. Some women want all the attention on themselves, hate and or dislike their children. However I do admire Diane Furstenberg and congratulations on your book and success!🙂

Couldn't agree more.. Diane's grandiose statements only serve to alienate and cast aside the fathers who take the role of both parents due to the negligence of the mother. I admire Diane, but her antiquated sexism needs to be addressed ! We are all for empowerment but it needs to be fair and equal. Saying that women are the stronger sex is equally offensive as saying men are the stronger sex ! The offenders of Munchausen's syndrome by proxy at our children's hospital have all been women !

@Pete 101 so true, but framing and context is just as important. If someone is assaulting you and saying, "I'm going to hurt you" has a different meanings then if your friend says the same thing while joking and laughing.
