This is an old ritual song about an orphan bride. The girl has no parents. The river was considered the boundary between the world of the living and the dead. She goes to the river and asks for the blessing of marriage, she says that there are many people at home, but there is no father and mother. You hear Diana singing in a whisper, these are the words of the deceased mother of the bride. Then the girl is crying. In Russia, weddings sang sad songs to scare away evil, and the marriage of a young couple was happy. Such songs were called “weeping.” The figures behind Diana are spirits of water and forest. "Rechenka" (Dear River) is a very-very old Russian folk song and it's melody is typical for Russian pre-christian chanting culture, then Russians lived in total harmony with Mother-Nature. The lyrics contain a lot of archaisms but they are very cheerful to Russian ear and understandable as well. It awakens the deepest strings of Russian soul and cultural genetic code. It like turns us inside out. This song has a completely different meaning in the performance of Diana. The final has changed. This is not a wedding song. This is a scream. This is a rejection of the father and mother, who want to give their daughter without her desire to a man whom she does not love. She is now 16 and an icon in Russia. Her life story is incredibly painful to read, but she has triumphed above that. In addition to her remarkable voice (power, control, range), what I find most astonishing about her is her intensity and stage presence. Definitely watch Wicked Games, Derniere Danse, and for something entirely different, It's a Man's World. She sings in Russian, English, and French, and for all I know, Martian. I hope I'm around when she hits her 20's.

Diana is excellent in yodeling, but I know one girl of Switzerland, also 14 when recorded, who mastered yodeling to a new level. Lena Thorimbert. For what I love Diana most is she is beyond performing. She's a true artist in the best sense. Her use of yodeling in Rechenka is perfect example for it. I know all the yodel queens and kings of Germany, Austria and Switzerland of present and recorded past. But never before Diana there was such a use of yodeling like in Rechenka. Blew me away and I'm still blown away. (Of course all the other elements of her performance, too, but by using a german saying literally translated: Her yodeling gave me the last bit.)

There are a lot of exceptional young singers coming out right now. Dimash, Diana, and a Russian singer Pelageya who was a child singer. What they all have in common is that they've begun their training very early and by the time they were teenagers they've already mastered their voice. Even with a group like BTS, some of whom began training as teenagers, it shows what hard work and training can achieve in even a short amount of time. I love naturally talented voices, but I appreciate even more those who have incredible control of their voice through lots of training.

A world class performance from a fourteen-year-old is a bit difficult to take in. I've shown this to a few pro singers I have known for years and their verdict is that this is truly exceptional talent.

She had a really rough start in life - she was born to a family where her father left when she was a baby, and her mother was a violent alcoholic that abused her, and abandoned her on the street when she was just three years old. She ended up in an orphanage, where her life turned around; an employee at the orphanige adopter her, (her adoptive mother was shown in the sidelines in this performance) and put her up for singing lessons to help her with her speech, as she was (understandably, after what she had gone through) having trouble speaking. She turned out to be extremely musically gifted, and a natural performer, and went on to compete in singing shows, and winning a few. After this show, "You Are Super", Igor took her under his wing, and gave her an apartment in Moscow where she lives with her adoptive mom. She is an alto or even contralto - a deeper natural voice than most women. And can use a technique to produce a quite unique and low sound that is prominent in a few of her performances. I believe she's 16 currently. This "Rechenka" is my favorite performance of hers, as the style of music is right up my alley, and she just gives me chills, at several points in the song. Thank you for your sincere reaction! Often those who make the reaction arrange the theatre... Diana was beginning to live hard. Grew up in an abusive family. Ended up in a shelter. Then she was adopted. She is wise beyond her years and merciful. A rare voice and talent she's already put on the ears of the whole of Russia. Спасибо за русские субтитры! Truly 14 - she will be 17 this coming May. Her speaking voice is fairly normal, definitely feminine but she does get to you doesn't she?

My favourite two songs from Diana are Snowstorm and Derniere Danse :). I have a low voice for a woman so even though it's low in a different way to Diana's it's cool to see a lower voice be appreciated by people as there's really not many female successful singers who sing low. There were some in the 70's/80's but now really not so much. Rechenka is a much more folk oriented song than her others but the influence kind of runs through all of them :).

When I was a kid in the 70's the only female german singer who sang Pop and Folk with deep an rich voice (Alexandra: Mein Freund, der Baum) died in a horrible car accident. It was the first time I realized death as a concept as a kid. It's not fair to Diana, I know, but I have a feeling that finally God gave me someone to listen to, who has the level of Alexandra and even more. Thank You, God. Thank You, Diana.

Ира, авторский перевод, как правило, безобразный. Проще включить в меню субтитры, выбрать язык оригинала и там же установить перевод на тот язык, который Вы понимаете (в данном случае - русский). 90% текста вам будет понятно, что вполне достаточно.

This is a folk wedding song) The girl speaks with a river and later with her friends that she isn't happy about the wedding... full house of guests, but everyone just having fun. Then she go back to the river. The river is strange, it flows but without any waves, most likely the girl drowned herself. This is one of variations of the song. Carbon fuel and pollution caused by the same is a side effect of the modern world and only if you don't want to live in some kind of "greeny" commune based on life from the Stone Age, eating raw fruits and vegetables and other edible herbs, hiding from carnivores...you have to accept the reality of 21st-century life along with all good and bad things that it brings along!!!
