It is an "enhanced" form of torture, but ONLY if you keep them _artificially alive_ for several days (with copious amounts of blood transfusions) since the salt prevents the wounds from properly sealing/scarring & the person is unable to sleep. -> It is an "art" in the sense that it usually gets too close to causing a coma/catatonic state (or just passing out). My theory is that Applebloom got too carried away (she was supposed to marely dismember Diamond, not killing her).

I just noticed Sweetie Belle's magic fading from her horn upon dying. It was as if she was trying to use magic to escape but couldn't. It's a small yet interesting detail.
