I got pretty jolly looking at it and the design. My approach was a bit different, but I really like you take.

Have you tried holding a lever indicator in the tailstock chuck? If it has a pivoting spigot you can easily indicate O/D + I/D and the face, all with the indicator automatically on the centreline. - Easy indicating on a lathe - no magnets.

Jim I like it . EZ and Simple. If you would care to put dimensions on it and a list of materials it would even better . Certainly a great winter time project in the shop.

Terry -- If I can find the time - I'll do it . The idea is like me " EZ and Simple " I took a four year course in ignorance -- I passed it in two . -- Jim

It is one of the best I have seen yet. I hate messing with the floppy magnetic bases. The more rigid the indicator is the more confidence I have in what I am doing. i took a little time last week to make a simple indicator holder for my Bridgeport clone mill. Now I need to find a use for the magnets. I guess I will make vice stops from them. If time Weather and good health permit I will surely make at least one of these this winter for one of my lathes. Maybe one for each lathe. @@TangentJim

Terry -- Noga Magnetic Bases are very popular . I have one but use it very little . To many moving parts that can go South . I have found many ways to get it done faster . -- Jim

Hey Jim. I have played with it a bit to learn the controls but that is about it. I figured this winter would be a perfect time to fix the leadscrew and other issues I discover.@@TangentJim

This holder is much more - sophisticated than my primitive one. I think this will be my next project; as soon as the others are finished. Thanx Jim for sharing! GFA: Dieter

I'm pretty sure its going to end up too high to be able to hit the center line of the part. Your going to run out of travel on the thumbscrew. For sure on the BXA's and AXA's. Possibly even the CXA
