Diagnostics used to reveal the size, location and nature of a brain tumor

Dr. Len Cerullo, neurosurgeon, discusses the diagnostic tools used by neurosurgeons to reveal the size, location and nature of a brain tumor. The various types of imaging studies are discussed in detail, including MRI, CT scan, MR spectroscopy, functional MR. Dr. Cerullo also discusses the use of physiological testing, including visual field testing, brainstem evoked potential testing and somatosensory evoked potential testing. Dr. Cerullo also discusses the use of biopsy which provides the neurosurgeon with the DNA make-up of the tumor. This information provides a foundation for planning of the treatment protocol. Please post your questions here or email Dr. Cerullo at info@neuro-ortho.org.

Hi Doctor, my father just diagnosed with brain tumour. His colonoscopy found rectal cancer. Is it possible that the brain tumour was metastasis from rectal? or it is primary brain tumour? He had finished stereostatic radiation therapy? For chemo, what do we need to focus rectal cancer or brain tumour? Thank you very much❤

I have had three different consultant radiologists look at my scan and they all three came up with different diagnosis’s. Who should I believe? They are all experts in their field. This has resulted in me having to wait over a year having three MRIs waiting to see if it’s grown. My next scan will be crucial and hopefully help the neurologist radiologist decide exactly what it is. So far it’s been called a Meningioma in the petrous apex, then it’s a Intraosseous meningioma and the latest is a trigeminal Schwannoma in Meckels cave. It’s grown from 3mm to 8mm in six months which is causing concern. So maybe it’s not any of the above but a cancerous tumour. The not knowing is pure agony.

@Holly, I found your reply similar to mine. I hope your doing well. Would love to connect with someone that is facing uncertainty. Maybe we can encourage each other through this nightmare of a journey. Anyhow, my symptoms started in 2018 and no doctor could find out what was happening. I have seen numerous doctors from nuero opthamologists, directors of nuerosurgery, cerebral vascular surgeons, skull base surgeons, regular nuero surgeons, nuerologists, radiologists, functional doctors, accupunturists, naturopathics and the list goes on. The doctors I've seen are from the top echelon medical universities which I now see as merely a luxury brand of a business in my experience/opinion. In the year of 2019, I was diagnosed with different diagnosis. They are as follows; meningonma, schwannoma, lymphoma, brain anyerisum. Now in 2020, I was diagnosed with tolosa hunt syndrome. In 2019, I was told by a top surgeon that they couldn't operate or biopsy due to the rarity and sensitivity of area. He stated he couldn't help me, wait for growth and come back in a year. The uncertainty and lack of specific information made me angry and depressed simultaneously. So, I left the country for further opinions and went out of state for another opinion. The most recent review they did was at a medical doctor conference this year. I've been living like a constant researcher and self advocate for a while and it is 2020 now. They are still not a 100 percent sure. However, they have recently specified the need for gamma knife surgery. Which is how I found this video. If you have excruciating head pain like I do. I recommend accupunture. It has been a life saver for me. Hope your journey to clarity and truth reveals itself soon. Many blessings to you!

I would contact the Mayo Clinic in the U.S. or John Hopkins. I would also look into organizations that help with finances. I know for children there is Ronald McDonalds Organization or St. jude's but don't know if they have for adults. If i find more info I will post.
