elisa tests can detect antibodies (the immune response) AS EARLY AS four weeks but anything before six weeks is def not conclusive if you had a high risk experience. i'm not sure where you're located but 4th generation tests which look for antibodies and hiv-specific proteins, which can be detected at 30 days.

@@luffy-zd8bw long answer: i agree with your original point regarding slightly conflicting info across articles about the ideal date to test. paused at the 4 min mark, this video implies 35 days after potential exposure would be the most ideal date to test. but most sources suggest p24 antigens (hiv specific proteins) have already dropped drastically by day 35 because antibodies have been produced. at the same time, there aren't enough antibodies to be detected by day 35. in my extensive reading, 28-30 days is ideal. immediately after is a long shot until 60 days. if a person has potentially been exposed, my recommendation is to test at day 28, 60 and 90.

I've had 2 blood transfusions (2 pints both the first and second time for a total of 4 pints). I was told that I needed to be tested for HIV and I was so scared. While awaiting those results,i was a bundle of nerves because I heard that one of the ways that HIV is commonly transmitted is via blood transfusions.I was first tested in 1995 and then some years later in 2014 I believe. I was given those transfusions in 1993. Fortunately I tested negative for HIV both times. I was so relieved when I was told my results for HIV were negative. How many times does someone who has has blood transfusions need to be tested, even if those transfusions were given years ago?

As of 2018, a 4th Generation HIV 1 & 2 duo/combo Anitibidy test (has a 95% accuracy in 30 days after possible exposure) along with a HIV 1 RNA QL TMA (99% accuracy after 30 days). Both test will be a blood draw taken to a laboratory for processing (not a rapid test). The 4th generation HIV 1/2 Antibody is far better than the 3rd generation. Along with the 4th generation an HIV1 RNA QL TMA (early detection test) will be given just to be conclusive. The HIV1 RNA looks for the actual HIV DNA in your system and has pretty much replaced the Western Blot.

This isn't a real conversation. This dude is just playing games. You'd never test negative if you really had HIV. (That's true) You would never test positive twice in a row if you didn't have HIV ! You got what's called a "false negative" and need to test again if this is actually a truthful conversation.

I had a negative ELISA on day 35 after exposure and was advised to repeat after 1 month. But I still have swollen and painful lymph nodes. What would you advise me to do next? All this happened after high risk exposure through unprotected sex.

Andrew OKUNI then you should repeat a test. 28days of elisa, should be conclusive. But, to rule out, you should have retest. All the best. Please stop googling and looking for the symptoms. Sometime, stress also can cause swollen lymph nodes.

Raj Jairu hi raj did u get tested again? I had unprotected oral sex in which I was the receptive. After two weeks I begin to have pain in my groin area and in armpit. It’s now the 30 day. I tested after 2 weeks but it was negative. Should I go and test after 35 days?

@@adamf4950 , thank you. The anxiety associated with high risk exposure is unmatched. I repeated the test after 1 month, still negative. I also had a sample taken off for PCR at day 55 post exposure and the result was negative. I agree with you about the stress being a possible cause of swollen lymph nodes, repeated flu-like bouts and general unwellness.

andrew okuni that’s true buddy, anxiety can cause swollen lympnodes in groin, armpit and neck. I had oral sex I tested after 2 weeks it was negative then after 50 days it was negative now I have to wait almost 90 days to test again. But hiv antigen/ antibody hiv1/2 can detect 96% virus after 4 weeks but I would wait for 3 months to pass to be sure.

So after 1 month of risk, when you got your Combo test negative which includes P24, that means you're not infected?

Dandi lf no you need a PCR-RNA test it is the only definitive answer. But it’s not cheap so they probably won’t offer it.
