One point of note: Unlocking your horse on your first character unlocks it for all character's across all realms.

Good analytical review. I'm glad someone had fun with it. I really am, and I don't want to ruin anyone else's fun. I just share my experience with people who may be on the fence so they know: if you get this game, don't play sorcerer - it's underpowered by design - and know that it's a grind to get into. If you want to burn ~50 to 100 hours sort of having fun in an ARPG, Diablo IV is for you. If you're like me with a low BS tolerance, skip this game - go play Diablo III, go play Path of Exile, go play Death's Door, go play Tunic. Skip Diablo IV. I happen to have had a very different experience with the campaign than @Lawllin. You played rogue, barbarian and necromancer, which are supposed to be the stronger classes. You chose wisely. As a sorcerer, however, I've had to grind to be strong enough to survive strongholds and some of the harder bosses. It's very annoying to have to go do side content - all of which is very boring - just to get the right skill points and stats. I think it's BS that we have to get altars of Lilith just to level up enough. Finding those in an ARPG with no horse is so dumb because it takes forever - it feels like padding. I've heard that this need to grind so much is not the case with other character classes, but I'm not going to start all over. I would give Blizzard credit for the graphics and the world (visually). However, I think the world is both too big and too bland. It's too big mostly just to make the hunt for Lilith Altars, and travel time even grindier, but it's missing anything interesting. It's like everywhere I go is either dreary swamp, dreary snow-covered mountain or dreary desert. Every dungeon feels like the exact same cave. Yes, there are some unique areas, but too few for my tastes. I've quit this game twice now, at level 33 and 42, and I haven't even finished the campaign because this game feels like they just want you to grind more just to get the story. It's an extremely poor design choice. Every time I get throttled by a boss it's basically either 1) hard crowd control, or 2) I didn't grind enough. I'm not speed-running the game - I'm doing the side quests, and finding altars here and there and I'm still not strong enough to beat the Act III boss solo. That's BS by design. That's just design meant to keep you grinding and I see through it. The nerfs to my sorcerer, and the buffs to enemies are BS by design. So I guess it's my fault for not doing the campaign as fast as I could in the first two weeks of the game. I feel like I got punished for taking my time (has the game even been out for 8 weeks?), which is dumb because this game is billed by many as "casual friendly". I don't know what people meant by "casual friendly". I cannot even pause this game. I cannot even put the controller down for 15 minutes (to change my daughter's diaper and feed her) without being kicked out of the dungeon I had just cleared, but hadn't spoken to the NPC at the end, due to inactivity. The icing on the cake: I had to redo the whole dungeon because server kicked me out due to inactivity. Who designs a game like that? I'll tell you who: someone who wants you to play as many minutes as possible without putting in the effort to make the game good. This game is a slog by design and I think Blizzard deserves the 5/10 I gave this game on Metacritic. It does enough right to be a functional and sort of fun game, and it doesn't deserve the 2/10 it has on Metacritic right now. but my experience is that this game is really mediocre. I don't even do seasons and I won't be end-gaming... if I even come back and finish the campaign.

Do you think it’s better or worse than Diablo 3?

i dont think i can give a fair answer to this. I beat the campaign of Diablo 3 (and reaper of souls) and never felt the urge to do anything beyond that. i liked 4's campaign enough to WANT to do end game content. but i have no real expertise with the diablo series. honestly the thing about d3 i remember the most was its announcement trailer where they showed off the Witch Doctor lol

Worse. Way worse. I loved Diablo III and got all 7 character classes to end game and did some light end gaming. It's fast, it's fun, and levelling and progression are meaningful. Each new area is really new - graveyards, to highlands, to the desert to an oasis, to a snowy fort, to hell, to heaven, west march, to the blood marshes, and then pandemonium. You feel like a real badass and you're slaying rooms of enemies in seconds and the enemies vary from place to place. I recommend the ultimate evil edition with the necromancer pack and the reaper of souls expansion. I have a bigger comment on this video on Diablo IV, but I'll leave it at this: it's a slog by design. If you pick up Diablo IV, do NOT play sorcerer, the class is under-tuned by design. Everything in this game is a grind, and it's rarely fun. There are so many stats to keep track of that I cannot figure out if the legendary I picked up is better than the one I am holding. Levelling up levels your enemies, and you get a skill point to cope. So level 50 really means level 50 enemies and you better have built your character right or you'll be too weak to survive. I'm at level 42 I have never once felt powerful and I am yet to receive a game-changing legendary. Then there's the biomes/zones... my god, it's either dreary snow, dreary swamp or dreary desert and for some reason the enemies are all really similar across the biomes (and recycled from D3). I don't know what Blizzard was doing for 6 years making D4... but it just ended up being a slog and not fun.
