didn't even notice. act 1 isn't exactly bitrate hungry, but once you're firing 13 projectiles 11 times a second at 90 monsters which also explode on death that 25k will come in handy.

@@NyxVellum The developer intended that. They've discussed simplifying it but what it comes down to is they want the type of players that want to get lost in the level of detail and min maxing that can be done by mixing all of the different systems together. They want highly technical players so they can design highly technical systems and watch what the players do with it. Once you delve into end game, its really difficult to go back to other similar titles, because you find its just boring. You can make just about any skill gem good or viable in this game, and you can augment/modify almost every element of your gear and character. Its a hell of a learning curve but once you get into it its a lot of fun and you'll find yourself spending hours just theory crafting. Thanks for giving the game a shot. : )

PLEASE MAKE THIS A SERIES! I'M LOVING IT! As a player with thousands of hours of POE hours, I'm pretty impressed that you made a lot of good decisions. Lemme give you some tips if you don't mind as to what you've experienced so far. 1. The support gems are the bread and butter to your character. For example, usually, we socket Caustic arrow with Lesser multiple projectile support gem, and Void manipulation support gem. So a 3 green socketed and linked item is required. It'll immensely help with your damage and clear. Give it a try. The more sockets links an item has, the more gems you can socket to support your main skill Caustic arrow. 2. Caustic arrow is a bow skill which does chaos damage. One of the 5 types of damage in the game (physical, fire, cold, lightning, chaos). The tag at the very top of a gem description shows the categories of the gem. In caustic arrow, it's *Attack, Projectile, AoE, Duration, Chaos, Bow* So, in the skill tree, Keep a look out for nodes which grant you more of these types of damage as it'll be the way to go. 3. Keep the "show loot" on. You'll eventually start to drop the good currency such as chaos orbs, divine orbs ect.. and it'll be a bummer if you miss them. You can use these in game currency to either craft the items you want or to trade with other players. PoE has an amazing trading site where you can search for literally any item you need to make your character better. But, more on that when you get to the actual late game. PoE has come a long.... long way since it's release. It's much smoother and has better QOL now. I love to see you explore the mechanics of one of my favorite games. I would suggest you refer to a guide but we'll do that later in the game so your character can face the true end game PoE has to offer. If you ever feel like you need help, hit me up. I'd be glad to answer any questions you have. Good luck exile. Subbed.

Pierce is generally a better first link for Caustic Arrow than LMP. The arrow explodes, hitting enemies and creating caustic ground, each time it hits an enemy, including if it pierces the enemy. So you can get extra hits out of it and Pierce Support doesn't decrease the damage of those hits the way LMP does. In act 1 or 2 on a fresh start you don't have a lot of specialization toward either the hit portion of the skill or the damage over time portion of the skill yet, so both sources of damage are worth considering. However, an efficient build generally becomes more specialized as you progress through act 2 and beyond, unlock more support gems, and find equipment with more sockets and links. The hit damage can easily become insignificant relative to the caustic ground's damage and this is the way most players go with Caustic Arrow. At that point you can safely use a support like LMP without worrying about the downside (because the downside only affects "projectile damage" and not the damage of the caustic ground the skill creates) or the opportunity cost (because your build, being efficient, has enough damage and wants to prioritize better coverage).

I think overall you did a great job, I have over 4000 hours in POE and the way you came into the game is similar to how I came into the game. I think your Cons were mostly on point, some of this is what they're trying to address in POE2. Gear looking bad is definitely a thing that was an initial limitation in the game and then probably transitioned into intentional to encourage you to buy MTX. I'm sure people have mentioned it already, but in POE no class is "the" class of a "thing", to some extent. Yes rangers _lean_ towards ranged skills, with their ascendancy choices and where they are in the passive tree, but by no means are you required to do that. In fact a couple leagues ago the Ranger was one of the better options for a mana-stacking caster build because of how defensively beneficial one of its ascendancies was (Raider). The appeal of POE over something like Diablo 4 is its endless depth. Over 4000 hours and there's still build archetypes I've never played, unique items I've never built around, content I've never really explored, every league I learn new things about something, and for someone like me who just loves to brew up ideas and try things constantly its literally the perfect game.

  • @NanoAffect

    @NanoAffect

My issue with endless depth is also that I will never get to experience 90% of it. I also can never make up my mind what to play so i spend 100 hours looking into builds and guides and then play for 10 mins and want to switch. I just wish respecing was a thing (not regret orbs). Also doesnt need to be free to respec but not how it is. I want to play 1 character and just try out different builds as I level. Like if I got a cool gem and want to try it out. I don't want to have to replay through the acts again and again and again just to find out what skills I like. Usually when i play i have one character per season and i maybe get to maps because I am bored of my build.

A quick note on lore: PoE's stance on that is "we have a pretty rich and quite original worldbuilding going on, but we expect most of the playerbase not to care". The main quest will only tell you as much about the world and its story as is necessary to tell you to go somewhere and kill things (and the main quest is pretty much: "Go there. Kill that. What in damnation have you done?! go there and kill that to make up for it"). The rest, you have to piece together from extra dialogue options, optional content, interactable objects (such as the weathered carving you found), references in some item descriptions, voicelines etc... There are also a few bits that can't be read or heard in the game anymore. It's mostly league-exclusive content which hasn't been added to the core game such as the Cavas or The Last to Die npcs, or older versions of the endgame that have since been replaced such as the Zana npc (PoE changes its endgame content regularly and there's an actual chronology between endgames; old bosses can still be found and fought through indirect means, but the questlines themselves however don't exist anymore).

I think PoE lore went sideways in act 4 with 2.0 and then Atlas it went downhill hard. I love everything up to Dominus, the gem usage lore and how integrates with the game mechanics was very well done. I would put the first 3 acts on an original Dark Souls level of worldbuilding, but anything with Kitava, Sin and all the Gods after that is very weak. From the last 4-5 years only Elderslayers story with Zana is somewhat interesting. People bring up the mechanics bloat all the time, but I would argue Lore bloat is way worse.

@@peterruskov yea honestly, Act 4 was only interesting up to the introduction of the Maraketh, but the whole plot about Corruption, The Beast, Malachai, and the 6 acts of refighting Kitava had very underwhelming story and lore implications. Dialogue in the campaign is also very meh, compared to league NPCs. The leagues with the best worldbuilding and writing would be Synthesis, Heist, Trial of the Ancestor. Shoutout to all the masters, Cassia, and Tane as well. They were miles better than the campaign town NPCs.

Kudos to you for not immediately caving and looking up a build guide, too. It's something I wish I'd done more, and am trying to do more - exploring the game, rather than following guides.

I don't know what it is, but this is such a fresh and organic new player experience. The way you choose your skill tree is the most "this is how I like to do it" type of thing and I didn't get that from many new player coming to the game lately. I even got affected by each of your finding in the game and got excited myself! Definitely want you to continue the experience. Also just in case you haven't notice it. There's always a stash where you can put your stash so your inventory does not clog up in every town. The first town stash location is in the left side where the one with the green ball cosmetic floating around him stands. The reason you don't see it is because you turn off the item name (and the reason why your loot disappear after a while and you need to press alt to see them again) you can turn the item name's on using key "z" on default key setting and this will tell you where the stash in the town is. Stay sane exile!

really nice "fresh" first impression, so many things i take for granted after years of POE. agree that the gems and tree etc is really great when you first figure it out but don't underestimate how incredibly well-thought out the currency system is. took me a while to realise you could "craft" the strongboxes, for instance, the same as you would a bow or armour. and this applies to almost everything in the game.

Hard agree. When I started I haven’t even finished tutorial (stopped playing at Act 4). Glad I gave it a second chance though, as I am more than 3k hours deep and constantly coming back for more (every 3 months or so for new “season”). The very first playthrough though… Was a mess. A lot of the game content just gets thrown in your face, you don’t understand what are you dealing with, and there is no proper explaining in-game… I bet I spent twice as much time in Path of Building, PoE Wiki and YT searching for info, than actually playing the game. Once you get in the groove though, the game is just amazing, I love it. And don’t get me started on wording aspect of things like increased vs more, reduced vs less, trying to understand the difference between local and global modifiers and so on.

I took a multi-year break from PoE and just recently came back. Back when I played before, the Atlas and the Shaper were like the only real endgame. The sheer amount of different content to dive into was super overwhelming at first. Abyss, Blight, Delve, Heist, Sanctum, Betrayal, Expedition, Breach, Legion, Harvest, Rituals, Metamorph, Alva's Temple, Bestiary, all the different bosses and content surrounding them, not to mention the massive Atlas Passive tree to tailor your endgame to your tastes and the new ToTA mechanic.

I agree with the cons, but as someone who played the game since 2014 and don’t like the campaign I wouldn’t want something that would extended that with animations! But if you can skip that I’m all for it! I don’t like going out of my way to understand the lore as well and I know basically nothing about the lore and I agree there is so much they can do there! There would be another depth into the world building. Thanks for a great vid hope to see more from you!

@@NyxVellum I really enjoyed watching this. :D Being myself an old D2 and D2X player back in it's days of glory, I remember waiting endlessly for over a decade for a D3, yet for me it never came. I have it, but.. it's just not the same anymore, the vibes are gone compared to D1-D2. Then I came across this game, oh men, that was so weird. Yet for some reason the atmosphere from D2 was present here in this one, despite that it was different in it's way. I stop there, since that's a lot ... like a ton of mega lot to tell about PoE and it's evolution and oh boy oh boy ... One point regarding the Lore in PoE, you are not forced to stand at the "Lore stones", unless you zone out the dialogue goes on and it's played in the background. It was not as this in the past, but for quite some years now it is. So just a small correction. But to be fair, there are also some other forms of lore objects and those are well.. you need to stand still and read. but they are not that long and are more like of a puzzle for the true loreseekers out here ;) Regarding the Lore of PoE, might be somewhat as WH40k, no kidding. You'll find out, when you play it further ;) One last thing, regarding comparing Diablo and PoE. I recently tried Diablo IV, I mean, not some alpha version, or beta, but final release game. And man! I could not believe WTH am I looking at on my display. The D4 looks worse... WORSE as PoE released 10 years ago. I mean, WHAT!?! The "light effects" in D4 ... a bad joke, they are basicaly absent. Shadows? Absent. I mean, yes there are light sources, there are shadows, except... unless I played some sort of a bugged version, they totaly completely did not played together, I mean I stood directly next to a campfire, or a torch or whatever light source and gues which direction did the shadow of my diablo character went cast? Fixed. Correct! Exactly FIXED... like a 30 years old game... I mean WHAT? I watched the D4 cinematics, ... dunno what to tell... look up D2 cinematics, I mean not the remastered D2 I mean the old 25 years old game cinematics, and you will notice the difference, ... The old ... OLD ones have FAR more quality in terms of EFFECTS, GRAPHICS as the newly released D4? WHAT?! D4 some blurred, clunky, pixelated as if in-game cinematic... Compared to a 25 years old rendered cinematic? Jeeez! D4 is a giga-scam! O_O I ... I don't get it. First I thougt, holy crap, my Graphics settings are set low... damn it.. but no, turns out they are on high.. WHAT... Anyway, I am really enjoying watching your playthru, looking forward for the future progres, EAGERLY! :))

You've pretty much gone the right way which is caustic arrow with ballistas. A few things to note: gem links are important in early game so that takes priority over everything else. Your main skill with 1 support gem vs 2 support gems can be a huge difference. Try to get some resists on rings and amulet, it will make you much tankier in early game, press "c" to open your stats page. Get FilterBlade, it will help immensely to filter out trash items. PoE definitely has a lot of onboarding problems - a lot of stuff isn't explained in-game, but yea if you get past the campaign you won't go back to Diablo. The itemization and the synergy between items is incredible where your tankiness and damage just scales multiplicatively.

In defence of the gear looking bad, the income model for Poe is definitely stash tabs and cosmetics. Also with the way base types and mods work, there are a bajillion base types it's kind of hard to make a set in game, unlike wow for example. You have a finite amount of gear that you are likely going to wear, or a set will be what you naturally wear so the set has an overall look and theme, there is very little mix and matching. For retail that is, you find this kind of mismatching more when you look at pre-raid bis warriors in classic, looking dumb asf :D

Caustic Arrow and Toxic Rain are very good leveling skills for bow as they are DOT which scales with gem level and does not rely on bow damage like a hit based skill. So you can level with one bow, you just want as much attack speed as you can get. You can also use the red support ballista support gem to make ballistas that use CA or TR also.

One thing I will add is that many parts of this game have search functions: stash tabs, shops and the passive tree. You can search by the name of skills/items or by the tags on items/skills. So if you wanted to find gems that have the projectile tag you can just type in projectile in the shop search/stash search to highlight them. This is really handy for learning the skill tree because you can just look at your gems and search the tags on the tree to see where the support for those skills are on the tree and you can plan a path to the passives you want to use. Dying too much and need more life? type in life on the passive tree and see what is close to you that you can grab.

Its always a pleasure to see new players try PoE it and amazing game and not so scarry/overwhelming as one may think. I don't know how many Hours it took you but that was impressive how you tried and adapted and overall choose the right answers. Some tips + You can changes MB1 to move only (the 2 feet icon), also you can make most skills attack without moving so you always cast at max range without moving into danger + Flask has modifiers (as regular items) that help you nullify certain aspects and give you a bust to your defense/offence, a Life Flask can have an modifier that removes bleeding when used while bleeding for example or a utility flask can have a modifier that removes Freeze and give you immunity to being freezed again for a small duration +Press Z to show you the ground items (at some point in the end game you will drop to much loot and need a filter but for campaing its fine) + The game has 5 elements, Physical (mitigated by armor) Fire/Cold/Lightning mitigated by their corresponding resistance and Chaos the same, The Cyan shield its called Energy Shield and acts as a barrier that recharge over time, Chaos dmg by default bypass Energy Shields (both yours and enemies) + The 3 colors for sockets represent their main attribute Red = Strength, Blue = Intelligence, Green = Dexterity, for every 10 in each they give you something Stg = 5max Life and 2% melee phys dmg, Int = 5 max mana and 2% max ES, Dex = 20 accuracy and 2% evasion + The gems come in 3 colors and can be support or active and can be linked or supported by any color while the overall characteristic match, Increased Area of Effect can support Gems that have the TAG AoE (the Tags are on the top of the gem) + If you enjoyed the game so far you can beat it (at least the campaign) with anything you like, but for a second playthrough you can search for a Guide, this will not only help you to fine tune a build but also give you information that requieres "hours" of playing the game to know. If you like the lore of the game (a bit of spam up ahead) search for "Kitten Cat Noodle" in YT her channel revolves around uncovering the entire lore of the game and the Leagues/Expansions because in a lovely From Software manner most of the lore is hidden in conversations and Items

Great video! Really enjoyed your fresh approach to the game! A couple of helpful hints here: There is a button you can press that will enable all of the loot to show on the ground as well as showing exits/strongboxes/essences text without having to hover over it. This is a different keybind than ALT. While leveling, it's good to take account of which "Life Flasks" fall on the ground, they upgrade as you progress and provide a large amount of recovery, same thing with mana flasks.(they upgrade every 6 levels or something). Lastly, it hurt my soul when you vendored your caustic arrow gem. Some gems like caustic arrow scale heavily off of their gem level. When you picked up the Vaal Caustic arrow (Sick find btw), it was level 1 when the one you had equiped was lvl 5, resulting in a large damage decrease (idk if you noticed). The gear is meant to be basic early on, but the crafting/gear affixes get much more interesting later into the game. Keep track of which orbs as well as essences you pick up. They can improve your gear (I noticed you didn't find any good bows :( ). Also, it's a free game and GGG makes all of their money off of microtransactions.

Here are my 2 cents as an POE Veteran (Play since 3.13 every league at least 500h each; yeah its a lot): Very good Video overall, very well edited video. Very nice voice :D Because POE is such a big and overwhelming game, the community LOVEs to see new players, generally. Tips for POE: (Specific to the campaign) EDIT: One more big Thing-> Click on the "Attack" skill in ur Skill Bar and change it to the "Run" symbol. u can rebind another key for "Attack" but tbh this shouldnt be a thing, because u do not "Attack" u just use ur GemSkills. 1) Sockets are King. I saw that u did not pick up the Gloves with 3 linked Sockets, bad move ^^ the more u can support one skill the better it gets. The FIRST Line on any gem is the most important information u get. Like Caustic Arrow has (Attack, Projectile, AoE, Duration, Chaos, Bow) and if a support gem has the same tag, it works with it. There are intricacies, Caustic Arrow is more of a DoT Gem/Build, so the Attack tag isnt that meaningfull (u can play it as Hit but most do DoT) 2) Gear: Life and Resists. Until Act 5 Resistances are nice but not needed, after that they are Needed. Life is overall King (in the Campaign) Summary: Sockets > Life > Resists To ur Contrapoints: The game is just overwhelming, after 10 years and as many or more League Mechanics it just is. The Help thingy ingame does help at the start. But does not hold up. POE requires u to search online for guides/the wiki. I dont think it will change in POE 2 much. The community is already "screaming" for there to be a respec button before lvl 70 or something, but ggg has a firm vision and respeccing easily isnt one of them. idk why, they would probably retain more people with that little change, but alas. Cinematics: Maybe POE 2 will change that, but i dont know yet. there is 1 Cinematic in POE 1 :P (i think) Dialogue: Not sure what to say, it is what it is Gear: well the gear is just a stat stick, u get life resist dmg etc. only later and very far down the line gear becomes more "interessting" idk how to explain it, its not like D4. And yes, it looks like Ass, they wanna sell MTX/Cosmetics for ur char/gear.

This game really grows on you the longer you play it. For many people the amount of content is more intimidating than the skill tree. Early on you don't access as much of it but as the game advances and you unlock content through playing.... yea there is a lot to do. And many many ways to build to do it.

Ive seen comments like this already. But as someone whose main experience in the genre was Conquer2.0 and years later D3, to then POE and having probably 4.5k hours give or take. This was a great video to watch, very interesting and your narration to your thought process was cool to see as well. I, like many players who play the campaign on league start just auto pilot through without thinking about what needs to be done or where to go. Was enjoyable to see a beginner experiencing it for the first time

Dude this video is a GREAT first impressions to see from a person who has idk 1-2000 hours in the game and seeing how excited you are during the campaign and how when you get more hours your main focus is to trivialize the campain and rush to endgame and it really just reminds me of how i felt when i started and how my "fun meter" shifted from start act 1 this is fun to rush through campain start maps get to red maps finish atlas and start making currency asap to upgrade char and how the fun is almost non existent until you get past that starting blockade of where you have nothing to where your strong enough to just farm and make more currency and your next decision is do i take this build further or do i make another char put the currency ive made into it and then go from there because your endgame progression carries over to your next char you just need to go through the campain again but other than that its just where you left off on your last char... so this turned into a jumble of thoughts and i hope the idea gets through but yes i just wanted to say welcome to POE and im glad to see you enjoying the game and hope you stay and make more videos for us to enjoy!

U should try SSF then. If u are already a full fletched zoomer in POE i highly recommend SSF, i did it this league and it makes most things more interessting then SC Trade. also it flushed out the gogogo chase currency mentality of SC Trade :) --- i had a great time in my ssf run, tried to get 4 voidstones, got 3 got clapped by UberElder and stoped. because i tried and thats enough :D

This was fun to watch. Couple of suggestions. Bind space bar over the M4 slot(or any slot) and use your dash(always have some sort of dash type spell)with it. So you hit spacebar to do your dash. It is awesome. Also get pierce to go with caustic for ultimate damage. There is a bunch of other things, but I like watching you figure it out. It makes the video more authentic...

The best example I explain POE to new players is that it's complicatedly simple. Once you have taken the time and you have figured out how everything works, building a character becomes significantly easier. Sadly most people give up after the first act.

First time watching your video's i think. i love your voice/editing of video's. would love for you to end the tutorial ( campaign ) and look for the endgame with real endgame bosses. You will be blown away with this game the further you get into. There is so many options with crafting/league mechanics/build choices. I played so many games got thousands of hours into diablo, thousands of hours into poe. i disagree with ppl saying there is no way to go back to diablo after poe. I love those games and hope diablo improves allot as does poe. competition is good.

The Story is something you just rush through after your first time to get to the juice stuff :) The overwhelming thing hit me in the oppositte. Being used to PoE, I start up something like D2/3/4 and have the feeling of playing "Babbys first RPG". You havent seen it yet, but later on, you can drop items, which add stuff to your Talent Tree... and those items are more complex than the entire Talent System in D3/D4 ;P

I have about 3k hours played on poe and I watched your video to understand what a d4 player feels playing poe, I agree on all the cons you identified, although the purely graphical ones are limited by the fact that you are not advanced in the campaign. If you want to do part two of this video, yesterday on poe started an event called "Shifting stones" all this week, during the campaign (even from act 1) each map every 15 minutes will draw a typical late game mechanic: Delirium, Blight, Legion, Beyond and Torment. You will have a chance to test these unique mechanics from the earliest levels and get a taste of what the late game is all about.

One fun thing to try: Those boxes you like that summon packs of monsters also have rarity (magic or rare or even unique) and can be "Unidentified" like your items. If they are you can use Scroll of Wisdom on them to see their mods or even reroll them with things like Orb of Transmutation. Not actually that impactful unless you're specifically hunting certain things in the endgame, but the first time I took the crafting items you use on your gear and used them to modify a random chest in the wild was a mind-blowing moment to me that taught me about the DNA of the game.

Keep playing. This game is so much more than what meets the eye at this point. There are milestones you will reach and then you will begin to realize that the ceiling for your character and the amount remaining content you have will feel nearly infinitely high. There really is no other ARPG like this one.

Poe skills are super fun, you can basically spam them which makes combat fun rather then waiting like 20-50 seconds or getting out of mana as in Diablo 4. Diablo 4 is super good looking and open world is just amazing. I would really like POE 2 to be open world and have events such as in D4. But in the trailer they are still following the semi open world and having acts. But still Poe 2 is the gane for me. Enjoying d4 so far and playing poe in between

@@NyxVellum yep they could as you said do a bit of better job of easing players into it. what is important to note is that the skill tree is shared between all classes - you just need to travel a bit to get to the other side. if its clock direction 12 is more int focused, 4 is more dex, 8 is more strength focused. And there is a search funktion on the tree so you can search for "projectile" "life" "resistance" But in the endgame you can really create weird an wonderful builds with that shared tree option. Want a shield & block focused witch sure. want a bow wielding juggernaut? sure. want a flaming skulls summoning guardian/inquisitor? jup go ahead
