Let's get practical: the Aspect of Valor is the greatest 1v1 angel in the heavens, he gets destroyed by Prime Diablo; yet, the Nephalem absolutely destroy Prime Diablo... Plus, Malthael (an unstoppable being of Death + The wisdom of Heavens (think about the implications of those titles) is so overwhelmed by the power of the Nephalem, that he makes use of ALL of the mortal souls he's gathered PLUS the whole power contents of the Black Soulstone (aka the 7 evils of Hell) and still can't manage to overpower the Nephalem... The Nephalem are absolutely broken and so they nullify all the danger and fear D2 offered in lore/difficulty and general gameplay...

@@LokiTheAnsuz well Prime Diablo was effectively Tiamat reborn. But yeah thats why people didnt like D3. It was high gothic fantasy rather tgan low gothic fantasy. I dont have a problem with the Nephalem in theory. I have a problem with them being the player character.

My favorite thing about Baal is how in the cinematic, he raises his hand to stop his own echo, like "Okay that's enough, you can stop now." So over the top badass!

Baal is easily my favourite prime evil. The game is about his younger brother but I would argue Baal caused the most damage out of all his brethren. What he did to the Worldstone was huge and catastrophic in the entire timeline.

3:58, the lore in diablo immortal revealed a vision in which kuul and tal rasha face baal, to imprison him, on their first attempt, baal shatters the stone, so they must use a shard of it to imprison him, it is not strong enough to contain him in its shattered state- so talrasha comes up with a plan to imprison the demon in a tomb, using his own body as a containment vessel.

I first played Diablo when i was 12 and fell in love with the lore not long ago that - That said, i absolutely love your videos, insights and opinions mate - the fact you're an Aussie too just makes them even more enjoyable haha. Thanks for doing what you do!

Individual power aside, Baal is probably the most terrifying evil to exist in the Diablo universe simply because the guy is a complete and utter nihilist. If he had his way, he'd be hell bent on destroying E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G possibly even himself and/or throwing the entire universe into chaos. He is chaotic evil in the purist sense of the word

Man, continue the great work. Your way of storytelling is amazing!

I like to imagine that Baal liked his brothers so the idea of Diablo taking his power and gaining a status that could alter the whole war and give the hell an ultimate victory but after Diablo gets killed literally an hour after gaining this power, he's rather dissapointed and separates to do his own thing

He's just as able to do deception just as well as Mephisto and Diablo. Considering through out Diablo II, you think that Marius was actually talking to Tyreal, until the end where he revealed himself, killed Marius, and took back his soul stone. Destruction isn't just the complete annihilation of people and things around you. It can also be a mental thing. I believe that people, in the world of Diablo, don't look pass the physical aspects of destruction.

Something odd is that when the lore says "Baal is the most reckless of the three" people think that means "Baal is a dumbass". They forget that he's the least cunning, but among hyper competent demonic masterminds. Being the dumbass of three geniuses still counts as being a complete GENIUS.

Maybe it just means Baal is somewhat more direct than his brothers. It does not lessen his genius. Like lets say you command forces that are incredibly powerful and you can just overwhelm your opposition and tell them im going to kill you and theres nothing you can do to stop me does that make him less intelligent than those who use covert means? It seems to me that Baal is a master of subtety and direct conflict when it suits his aims. I also feel like Diablo 3 is a very poorly thought out rendition in the storyline because it basically relies on retconning the soulstone arc as the prime evils were meant to be permanently killed. I mean they could have come up with a better story like the prime evils were only weakened by their state as they are a negative reflection of heaven and as long as heaven exists and the arch angels then so do the prime evils always regenerate over time albeit in weakened forms, or you could say that Hell would always reproduce the prime evils in the form of new demons as its function it would just sacrifice a lot of demonic energy to reform the prime evils. I think a better story for Diablo 3 should have been a civil war in hell between Azmodan and Belial while the spirits of the prime evils manipulate the players to kill/sacrifice demons and corrupted humans so they can respawn as the Prime Evil Tiamat and then engage in a final strike on heaven as diablo realized it was the division of the evils that always defeated them, uniting as one being would likely defeat heaven. The destruction of the world stone would result in powerful nephalem returning that the Prime evil Diablo could use as a host and you could make that Diablo's daughter if you really wanted. Then you can get rid of the stupid adria story because playing D1 she was never a villain, you could just say the wanderer shagged the rogue character from D1 and thats his child. Boom i fixed d3.

To me it seems like he wants to destroy everything, EVERYTHING, so hells and himself being destroyed ? good (atleast as long as sanctuary and heavens are destroyed aswell) Also there are interesting paralels to Ragnarok , Hindu religion etc. destruction of EVERYTHING yet that destruction is neccesary for new creation. So you could make the argument that the prime evils works for higher good. Since heaven is about order.... yet you cant get new order without destroying the old one.

I would love to see Baal and Mephisto in D4. I never really played D2 so I haven't seen these two in game yet.

I can't wait to try out/get into multiplayer for the first time when the remaster comes out. But yeah my javazon was sometimes able to defeat Baal on normal difficulty before level 30! ☺️

Honestly though? Can we be real in something here? In the beginning Lilith wasn't even wrong. She wanted to put an end to the conflict indefinitely, but that wasn't just because she wanted an edge over the high heavens, it was because she was just sick of fighting. Especially knowing that it would always be impossible for it to end. I really hope we get a choice in Diablo 4. I also hope that she's not just pitted to be evil. I always agreed with her ideals on the situation, and I'll take any opportunity I can to fuck over Imperius.

I mean she was and is right. The nephelim would have been the solution to the eternal conflict. Regardless if they were used to end the high heavens and hells or not, because if they did, and were at their highest capabilities I'm almost certain they could, and then it would end that conflict, not all conflict, but that one. And if they instead chose alternatively, at their full might? Sanctuary would be safe from the heavens and hells. Maybe not from themselves or the inevitable deceptions and traitors, but they would undoubtedly be impossible for the hells and heavens to defeat without an allied effort (scary but possible if you think about it), and hence beyond their conflict, making her again right. Things could and always can go wrong of course, but, one potent nephilim was nearly unstoppable, and imagine if all of humanity became nephilim. Oof. Not a good thing tbh but beyond heaven and hell.

Most People do not recognize that baal in the cinematics is wearing a mask of flesh. So what we see is not his real face but stopping the cinematic you will See that his real face is kind of bug like with many little shining eyes.

@@AvatarOfGames Malthael did not get corrupted by evil. His intentions were clearly into heaven's favour. For Malthael the humans were simply a convenient tool to eradicate demonkind completely. When he stole the black soulstone from Tyrael, he passed right through El'Druin, Tyrael's sword. That's because El'Druin cannot harm those who act in an unrighteous way. Malthael left the Angiris Council because he understood that Tyrael was the one who made the worldstone's destruction possible, and that no matter what his brothers and angel sisters did, hell would still find a way to corrupt sanctuary. Because of this, he decided to take a more direct approach and act on his own, leaving the council behind. Malthael leaving the archangels was not an act of betrayal, but rather an acknowledgement of the angels' incompetence. Even Imperius believes Malthael's plan is amazing, but he cannot get past the fact that Malthael whooped his ass when he attacked heaven, hence why he tries to stop him. Tyrael cannot comprehend Malthael's actions any longer because he is a mortal, but from an Angel's point of view, Malthael never abandoned his cause. He fought harder than any other angel. The only way in which Malthael is "corrupted" is because he made use of "non-angelic like tactics" to see his plan succeed, but that is because he was the only one that understood that if they continue the same, it wont be enough.

The thing is that Imperius was never evil. Realistically he's probably the more rational angel between him and Tyrael. Imperius is the archangel off valor and high commander of Heavens military forces. The reason he literally exists is to ensure that heaven does not fall to the forces of hell. He's a dick to the the Nephilim because he understands the gambit they represent. The only reason we see him as an ass is because in Diablo 3 we are led down this linear path of "goodness" where we just so happen to stand for the forces of heaven but in the millions, if not billions, of people on Sanctuary with the potential to have this kind of power, there are too many variables to want to leave that to chance. That's why he'd much rather fight hell to an endless stalemate until one party slips than trust their survival to a race of demi-gods that could quite easily annihilate creation as it could save it.

I hope that we get to fight some legendary opponents, other than the prime evils, like Tal Rasha, Inarius, Imperius and just maybe Tyreal

Baal is the first one that came up with anti-AFK in games when you play with friends

And I shall rule unchallenged!

Putting Duriel as the Guardian for Tal Rasha's Tomb, 11/10 Galaxy Brain plays.

I always remember how many stupid things I've done in my life but then I remember this barbarian guy confronted Baal with his army of demons

Preface with, thank you! For someone finally seeing and showcasing a bit of my favorite of the brothers. I would argue though that it was the imprisionment and battle with Tal Rasha that actually forced Baal to think in non-linear ways. Having to have a test of wills against one of the Horadrim's greatest mages for as long as he had would have been quite taxing for his usual brash tactics. The fact he can now corrupt and control soul stones is evidence of that as it's not destruction but manipulation magic that would require which is usually in the realm of Mephisto. I'm not saying they are singular faceted beings as all demons demonstrate all the qualities but the intelligence of Baal has seemingly increased from how he's described previously by all Horadric accounts. Amazing video and hope to see more man.

They have the World Events in Diablo 4 would be kind of cool if at one point they add one where you fight all the Evils and then maybe they all combine into a Prime Evil. But probably won't happen.

Eventhough this game is called Diablo but the spotlight is still on to Baal 😆

Just watching the cinematics, it's evident how Blizzards storytelling abilities have gone down. The overdramatic voice acting in D3 etc. Really hope they tone down the overdramatic acting in D4, and return Tyreal to the angel-like creature he was in D2. In D2 he was imposing, in D3 he is almost directly stupid. Poop jokes etc. And well, that they completely abandon the pausing of boss fights. Nothing to break immersion as a boss who stuns you, talks forever, and then let's the combat continue. And that they abandon the insane set bonuses, so actual combat comes back, not just the lawnmover type of gameplay D3 is putting out.

The bonuses are insane stupid its like do i take this primal ancient legendary or do i finish my set piece with no good stats but gives me 7000% bonus damage on my primary ability. I would enjoy more uniqueness and make set bonuses weaker across the board. I'm pretty sure the primal ancient isnt going to be 7000% better.

True. Tyrael looked surreal in the LoD ending because of the blurring effect mixed with his armor that radiates bright lights. His voice makes him sound firm and I want to hear him talk more. They need to make the angels much more mysterious and surreal. In D3 they sound like regular people dressed in armor and wings.

was wondering this myself, and concidering d3 is fake and doesn't exist I really couldn't pinpoint where it was from

I kinda hope Mephisto has a major role in 4 I think hes the most interesting out of the three especially with the theme and Lilith involved. Then again since the Triune is such a heavy focus I think well see all 3 prime evils in the game.

I think they need to showcase each prime evil in their full horrifying powers, make it a 4 expansion sets, after Diablo 4 lilith death by Baal & the should also showcase the Lord of Hatred powers, he is the fist evil

It is similar with Slaanesh in 40k. He never is or was the most powerfull Chaos God (or his personified daemons). It is more about deceive, deception and controlling people by their dreams, wishes or just simply emotional based desires. No need to be strong yourself if you are capable of making others believe they are and thus follow and fight for you.

My Barbarian crushed the Prime Evils in II, and saved the High Heavens in III. His heir will be ready to face Baal, regardless of his intellect.

I hope that D4 and D5 leads into some kind of reunification of the 7 heads into one again man that would be epic.

The true genius is the Lord of Deceit, the one who seems to have hoodwinked everybody into thinking not only that he doesn't exist but that he is their ally. Always at the center of every invasion but never really in trouble? "Dying" only to have secured Diablo's comeback? Yes, the Lord of Deceit has fooled all.

D1 was the lord of terror inhabiting a baby, D2 was the hero that slayed him, d3 was his daughter (blood has power), d4 will be him (or Baal) infecting the strong known being in all the realms… a GR 100+ rift destroying nephalem.

Hopefully if they do bring him back they use the same voice actor from D2 or at least someone who sounds similar. That brought such a sinister depth to the character as opposed to the lame, generic, Saturday morning cartoon bad guy voice you hear in 2:41

Personal theory. If baal were to return in a new body I dont believe it would be a nephalem. Thematically for a player it doesn't really have weight/impact if hes just corrupted a nobody or even any of the previous games' nephalem as it would diminish them. Baal is a corruptor imprisoned by the Angels. He was hunted and nearly stopped by Tyreal, and at the end of the day his plan to control the world stone was ended by Tyreal destroying it. Now Tyreal is mortal and claims that a mortal heart can be tempted to corruption. From a story perspective, baal corrupting mortal Tyreal aka a fallen angel that was both angel of wisdom and justice would be a perfect show of power. The two have been intertwined more than any other primevil/angel and having Tyreal be revealed to be a villain that the player must stop would add a lot to the story compared to a noname/unknown character being corrupted. Additionally if baal can hide the corruption he can use the player directly for his goal and or use the angels for his plan. Perhaps having the corrupted Tyreal lead the nephalem on a path of destruction as he warned Comparing to d3 just in case. Leah was a new npc that was tricked by adria and she was horribly written. Tyreal is well known and has had character development throughout the series. baal would be controlling Tyreal and tricking the player, no npc middleman/woman to take the dimming spotlight This would add a twist with actual impact as now the player was directly used as a pawn and a well known character built on his incorruptible willpower has been corrupted just as he warned a mortal could be.

I see it and understand but I think another game would have to come to kill of Tyreal, there would be a backlash like The last of Us 2

What about Tyriel? Did he not lose his wings to become mortal and now resides in Heaven? Could his body not become corrupted to gain access to Heaven itself if tricked to return to Sanctuary?

If only Blizzard will gives us a movie base from the games from Diablo 1 up to Diablo 4, it would be amazing and a dream come true

Are we sure Lilith ends up being the main antagonist? I do wonder if she'll attempt to free/revive Inarius now that she's free, since she knows he was imprisoned by her father. I'd actually quite like it if she were more a catalyst. Perhaps the death of the worldstone would cause Sanctuary to collapse eventually, and the only way to save it is to create a new world stone and have the original creators infuse it with power again. Who knows. I'm looking forward to seeing where they go with the story.

Ruse of Tyrael. He WAS Tal Rasha, since that was the soul stone container, so the Tal Tasha/Baal hybrid was his actual face.

@@ThatWhichObserves I'm trying to find where an angel would need a face to be tal rasha/ ba'al. Maybe you misunderstood. Ba'al pretended to be tyrael. He showed Marius his face of the Baal/Tal Rasha hybrid right before he killed him.

@@vegeta1885 No, he showed the face he has for the rest of the series. Unless you believe Ba'al never showed his true face in the LOD expansion. Ba'al didn't show his Tal Rasha face to scare Marius. He did it so Marius knew how bad he fucked up by handing the stone over. Tyrael wasn't the "let me do it" type earlier, so Marius should have known better.

I hope baal and the gang all come back.

never watched the original cutscenes until I saw the remastered ones first, now I can't help but laugh at baal in the original

Diablo 2 is legendary class game design. It is solely the reason why I had so much love for Blizzard back in the day. It's also exactly what I look back to and feel such disappointment seeing what Blizzard is allowing to happen lately.

I stayed a while and listened.

baal is a genius because humans look so high up to gods and angels that they forget demons exist. he tricked marius into pulling out his soul stone, most likely tracked his soul stone and played on marius's madness by posing as tyrael.

I always questioned why the Lore always said Baal was the stupidest of the 3. He honestly Outwitted everyone, and Was the sole reason the WorldStone had to be destroyed. He absolutely won the war.

He saught the destruction of the worldstone through its corruption. That what I was thinking was his thinking as to pay back Diablo for his BS. Only prime evil in my mind that actually did his goal. Edit: The worldstone being destroyed doesn't feel right, like the fragments that were ejected into space after its destruction, they could reform in Sanctuary's universe since Gravity and physics seems to work the same as our Universe.

What? That opening sentence was wrong. If people actually thought that, they don't have a sliver of empathy. I honestly can't believe that was a common thought, there is no way. He was NEVER simple. You can tell simply by watching him in the cutscenes, listening to the tone of voice, reading his lore. The actors did quite well giving him a proper energy. If anything, Diablo is the simple one.
