A lot of people are completely missing the point of Inarius. He is purposefully supposed to feel like a letdown. He's hyped up as this godly savior and Father of humanity who is good and pure but throughout the game we see has vanity, his pride, his corruption, his weakness, and as it finally culminates after seeing Lillith, he is immediately killed. All the hopes and dreams and expectations are destroyed because that is the theme of the story. Every character wants to be a center of the prophecy, as Lillith says. But in the end, we are all just pawns manipulated by our own desires.

The story of Lucifer, the fallen angel

I hated how they written Inarius story in Diablo IV. Besides the plot hole in which he escaped, which was mentioned by many already, if they wanted to make Inarius this narcissitic sociopath who deluded himself into returning to Heaven, then they needed to expand it instead of doing his stories off camera. Killing his son off camera was so weird. But this whole storyline just shuts down Inarius's backstory in general. Creation of Santuary was to leave the Eternal Conflict and now he wants to be back in? So weird and confusing.

I believe his son to be alive. As shown with Elias' immortality, I would bet the first of the necromancers is still alive. Also beside the plot hole on how he was set free, Inarius' character is pretty much in parallel with how he is portrayed in the sin war trilogy (which are pretty badly written novels by the way...).

Maybe a few thousand years of torture made him change his mind? And he could only want to return to the High Heavens and be at peace and join his brethren than being alone in Sanctuary as an Angel. He probably yearned to get home. Also Inarius could think he did not have to engage in the Eternal Conflict and just sit back but I guess Imperius would beat him up, a lot.

You would think that after being deceived, chained in the depths of hell, tortured for who knows how many years, he would be more inteligent than that.... But again, after all that time, the "Creator of Humanity" ended up as a foolish angel who sucumbed to his own delirious will to go back home... But look at the bright side, there's this artwork that got leaked some time ago where you could see a character who was wearing Inarius armor, but with no hood, so he might come back as a "fallen wingless angel", who knows...

If blizzard wanted him to end like a deranged angel hoping for forgiveness, they could at least make his temper easily broken, but instead he was just deceived by Lillith again, in the easiest way possible... After creating a world with her, being deceived both for his love and his children, you would think he wouldn't turn his BACK to her, at least during the whole game he seemed to not be that kind of character. But no, Lilith needs to kill him, so let's have his line of thoughs be broken just by her practically saying that he'll never see Auriel's feet pics again...

I want Inarius back ha but I think the point of the cutscene is that Inarius COULD have won, he COULD have slain the armies of Hell if get continued fighting with his people. But he abandoned them to go after Lilith. He followed her into who knows what sort of traps could have been there, for the chance of him going home. And if he went home? Probably abandoned his servants to their deaths. But he didn't have to do that, he could have been the good leader and warrior king that his people wanted him to be. But I definitely want Inarius to come back in some form he is too fun not to

He will come back later and you are right about him leaving the army and go after lilith alone he was blinded by the prophecy he just cared about killing lilith and get back to heaven he was so confident because of the prophecy ''a spear of light ,piercing hatred's heart'' but inarius was the hatred here.He killed their son and started not caring about humans just cared his own thing.But i can't blame him he got tortured in heaven for thousand years of course he will start losing his mind.I still love inarius i think his story is cool even they could have made it better, a wasted potential for me but i am okay with it and i am waiting for he's return in the next games.

If he is dead, he is dead for good. Demons like Diablo can reform and return to "life" basically but if an angel dies, their essence returns to the High Heavens and a new angel is born.

I was so excited to finally get to SEE him InGame... only for him to be used up and thrown away like Arthas in WoW. Blizzard, WHY!? Everything remotely interesting gets trashed... :(

Anybody who sacrifices others towards their own selfish ends deserves to take accountability(cof cof GRIFFIIIIIIIIIIITH cof cof), he should have had taken a lesson from his direct superior when he was still in Heaven, Tyrael(Inarius never was nothing more than Tyrael's advisor in the High Heavens, a low-tier Archangel once, a low-tier Archangel forever, never anywhere close to be in the Angiris Council), Tyrael sacrificed HIS OWN ANGELIC RIGHTS FOR HUMANITY, while Inarius, once a bitch, always a bitch, played God on Sanctuary, died like a bitch in the Burning Hells... "Learn from the ones above you and teach the ones below you", except that even the "filthy" humanity were above the "almighty" Inarius, the biggest, I can only imagine the shame Imperius would have felt had he cared, or even acknowledged Inarius existence, seeing him begging for Heavens' protection, even tho Imperius is flawed, we must not forget, HE WENT ALONE AGAINST DIABLO IN HIS PSEUDO TATAHMET FORM, THE SUM OF ALL LESSER AND PRIME EVILS, AND EVEN MANAGED TO WOUND HIM, WITHOUT SHOWING ANY SIGN OF FEAR AT ANY POINT.

Probably because he was in the anluncement trailer, and you Saw the blessing cinematic a while before release too. He felt more like a marketing campaign, than anything Else. Despite how much i like his character in lore and in game, i really wish he Got at least some more Lines as an NPC

He was broken by Mephisto during his capture, planted him with deep hatred. The moment he escaped hell, he’s no longer the angel he was.

Inarius had choice to choose heaven not to kill his son and lilith. His true heart is just thinking it will be done if just do it. He has to want to go heaven with his true heart without lilith and his son.

I actually feel like Inarius is might actually be the protagonist to replace Tyrael as a balance to the force against hell. What we seen in most cutscene ingame are more geared towards Lilth perspective espectially the part with Rathma, who knows Inarius actually knowns more than what is displayed to us and he & Lilth is just playing along (with a love hate relationship) against intruders to the santurary. Inarius might be helping us all along since the time we "get the blessing" to meet him. A spear to the heart of hatred might not be Lilth's but Mephisto's (the lord of hatred himself) meaning probably he might appear at some moment in near future to help us to fufill this prophecy as mentioned. But Inarius by then will be more human as he seems enlightened by Lilth in the last battle of the cutscene that he will never return to the high heavens and sanctuary is what he call home.

Inarius dying is the easiest way to waste infinite potential!!! Thanks Blizzard for the demonstration

You get his blessing(which was awesome, but only an inengine cinematic). He makes a boring speech in game(not even an in game cinematic). Then he’s done(albeit in an amazing cinematic). The f blizzard. Brutal. He was the coolest and most interesting part of the game and lore for me. Ouch. Also bad writing that he didn’t even make sure she was dead before having a mental breakdown over heaven.

Are you surprised by this? This is done by the same company that thought it was a good idea to kill off the best and most interesting Protoss character (Zeratul) at the start of the Protoss campaign in the second Starcraft 2 expansion. And they replaced him with some generic Protoss no one really cared about. Also look at the WoW story over the last decade. It was mostly trash with terrible, boring or wasted characters as well...

So far what ive encountered gameplay wise for d4 i think malthael or imperius, mainly the prior would've been the better antagonists to combat Lilith. Lilith vs malthael would've been a masterpiece battle for the survival of sanctuary. Both serve as the wiser parts of their side. One wants to eradicate everyone while the other manipulates to her side, the players are having to fight for survival of sanctuary. with the weakened angelic council and prime evils unable to stand on their would be forced to work with the Nephalem for everyone's survival.

Reading the comments, I don't think people understand Inarius at all

I don't understand why Blizzard keeps making the best cinematic scenes out of killing Inarius in Diablo 4 and Imperius in Diablo 3. Why can't Blizzard create the best cinematic scenes for killing the bosses? Even the cinematic for killing the last boss in each Diablo 3 and 4 is not impressive, but rather a simple death of each last boss. I believe the storylines of Diablo are just stupid.

Everyone seems really mad about it, but I like that they made him an almost pitiful figure. Sure, he's The Father of Sanctuary, but only because he was too weak to stay the course during the Eternal Conflict and too gullible to see through Lilith's manipulations. People who think Blizzard did him dirty have mistaken the self-mythologized heroic version of Inarius that he and his cult believe in with the real, pathetic version of him that the rest of Heaven and Hell (including Lilith) know him to be.

The reason people dont “like” him, is cause of the direction they went with him. And he had way to little sceen time for someone who was set up as being as important as lilith. They could also have shown his mind breaking after 3 thousands years of torture and him having ptsd just wanting to return home. I like his character A LOT, but he needed more screen time.

Wouldn't even exactly call him "pitiful". He didn't care about his first son, his mother, his worshipers, nor the humanity that he spawned, he was ready to forsake it all just to get brownie points back from the High Heavens. He was pathetic and self-serving to the very end. He made his bed with Sanctuary but refused to sleep in it.

After letting it all settle, seeing the amount of comments that lament how Inarius was handled really makes me wonder what these players were expecting - for the fallen angel to be the kind of hero he seemingly looks to be? the game was so very clearly ramping him up for nothing short of utter and absolute failure. He got exactly what was coming for him in as poetic a way as it could. If it wasn't as pathetic, it wouldn't have worked anywhere near as well.

The cutscenes are great, but the story is garbage, they always give demons an edge and make angels look incompetent, which to me is terrible writing, to make matters worse they didnt even complete the story but want to sell it in pieces, unacceptable.

Play COD just wanted to know who TF this was 😂😂

Looking at the cinematic videos of the whole saga. In the end the equation is very simple. The angels and demons of this video game are on the same side and make a nice little theater to confuse as many people as possible. Ah, a true angel sent by God on a mission to stop an army, will never fail! Other than these fallen angels who make a cool entrance and then after 30 seconds die in that shameful way

Diablo use to be better what is this shit? I have to admit I really like Lilith yeah she is not like the prime evil that are the 3 main villas but her character is amazing as for Inarius? total disappointment....what else is there to say?..... Blizzard should give us more High Havens and the Burning hells lore, story and characters....

They completely botched Inarius in Diablo 4. I'm mad, even so much that I'm not planning on buying the game. He was just about my favourite character, and then in his first ever in game appearance, he betrays everything he stood for, acts like an idiot, and dies.

Inarius might be the biggest sick in that story
