Mephisto is notorious for being the thinker in his little family. He would never have allowed the player and his allies to reach him if he truly felt threatened. His plan is pretty smart. If the stone was used on Lilith then it was exactly as he said. He would remain in hell to reconstitute himself and regain power. But since they use the stone on him now he has time to turn Nyrelle into another dark wanderer. He set it up so that no matter what happens he wins. Clever.

I hate that we had zero agency in the game. You can't make any choices.

Mephisto as this wolf is already a billion times more character development than any of the prime evils had in any of the other diablo games. In the past you heard they were supposed to be this and that but the prime evils were just mindless drones you fought. Props to the team for this, I really enjoyed it

​@@sumairshirazi The story was good imo. It just they killed off good characters early on base game. Could be amazing if some of the characters story continue in expansion but nope! Blizzard could take the cliche story route with all 3 prime evils return and you have to kill them but instead it not so it good imo. And Mephisto actually looks powerful unlike in D2.

@@sumairshirazi That the part i think was stupid. The story could be Super good if Lilith and Inarius alive especially Lilith. I know she probably get resurrect just like all 7 prime evils that can't die and always resurrect no matter what, not sure about Inarius though. But they could at least let her alive until next expansion.

It worries me that he actually allowed himself to be trapped within a soulstone without fighting back, its like this is part of a greater plan of his.

Scary skeleton from diablo 2 is now suddenly some friking Furrie. LOL this game is even lighter than Disney

I just now realized that Mephisto is the one that killed my horse at the beginning, all so he could "save" me and get me to follow his ploy. 4d Chessmaster, that one.

Mephisto was one of the best parts of Diablo 4. We've known him until now impersonally, simply as a monster to be fought and destroyed, but we haven't really interacted with him person-to-person. Also, ironically, Nyrelle, despite trying to not do what Mephisto wanted, ended up doing pretty much what he wanted. He used reverse psychology on her and now she'll be Dark Wanderer 2.0.

Don't think Neyrelle using the stone on him was part of his plan, but I do love how he, despite her not listening to him, opens a portal for her to escape from lilith with the stone

While I like his character, I actually disagree about his voice. Nothing against the voice actor, wish I had a voice like that lol. But I always imagined Mephisto as having a much more abrasive, spiteful, and piercing voice. You know, a voice with a lot of HATE behind it.

@@AngryToasterOven I feel you on that, but I tell myself I got too attached to his voice from D2, where I rationalize the difference because in D2 he was possessing the body of Sankekur, whereas in d4 he's speaking through magic and gives him his natural voice

Bro when Mephisto says “choose wisely” and “you have secured your fate” if that ain’t foreshadowing idk what is. He wasn’t talking about Lilith catching up to them he was referring to him slowly corrupting neyella before she finds a spot to rid of mephisto. Hahaha he so badass

I want to ride Mephisto. I want a doggy, not a smelly horse mount.

Steve Blum lulled us all into a sense of false security by voicing every single character exactly the same way, specifically for this moment.

Mephisto mellowed over time. But that doesn’t deter him from his goal to corrupt humanity and use humanity’s potential to end the Eternal Conflict.

A father who wants to discipline his rebellious daughter.

Glad mephisto has the spotlight this time. He was underutilized in D2 as the Act3 boss.

consider it's been 50 years after the events of Diablo 3, it makes sense that Mephisto would return one day.

@@fandaklada609 (fixed it) and that's what I was worried about, after the destruction of the Black Soul Stone, not only Diablo's soul is freed, but Mephisto, Baal and the other 4 other evils would return one day, though I guess one of the three prime evils, the big M himself, decided to return first.

It all probably went according to his plan. He's in sanctuary now, so if he ends up escaping from the stone then he's free to cause havoc again.

@@alexdurain3753 The soulstone does not have to be attuned to a specific demon but the realm they hail from. It was attuned to Hatred which works for both Lilith and Mephisto, that's why they were able to choose

it's a shame they couldnt get paul eiding to do his voice again, and on I story note, I get the feeling that the characters were played by Mephisto. Since he knew they would have doubts about his word, he tells them the opposite of what he wants and let their doubts do the rest. He made them save him, and as his final words were "You have sealed your fate...".

Man, if I could’ve, if I had the agency in-game, I would’ve taken Mephisto’s blessing every time he offered

@@augury883 arguably, we did exactly what he wanted. We killed Lilith and used hatred to break the group apart so he can attack again. But now I don’t get to be his agent of chaos, just some schlub that doesn’t get demonic powers bestowed by a prime evil :c

Steve Blum was the perfect choice to voice this character.

Not gonna lie, once I met the wolf I cared more about him and finding out who he was more than the rest of the story. He's like a guardian angel! Well, if guardian angel's could be high-ranking demon wolves who absolutely shouldn't be trusted.

Definitely felt like Mephisto intentionally let Nyrelle capture him in the stone with no resistance. Then casually opened a portal for her to escape despite prior to that saying to her and your character that "you would never escape hell before Lilith catches you."

She catch us, despite our multiple deaths she doesn't move form there.

Really curious what Mephisto will bring over to the story in Diablo 4's next season, he has been the most underutilized of the 3 brothers ever since D2 yet has tons of rich lore behind him. You know he has a grand plan on all of this and we just so happened to give him the key to his return in the ending.

Is DLC 1 an expansion? When you say seasons will there be new story in season 2?

He is the best part of the game imo and the voice actor did an amazing job though

it makes sense having mephisto in diablo 4 considering his daughter is the villain

I'm really glad the wolf ended up actually being Mephisto. Despite being the defacto leader if Hell, it was really a shame we got so little of him in D2. These cutscenes definetly help characterise him more.

He cant "hate", he strengthens the hatred that exists between beings, if he hates, he would lose himself in his own powers. It's like Diablo doesn't feel terror, nor would Baal destroy himself.

You get fleas. Then a disease and you die. Soon after you're brought back to serve a Prime Evil.

Imagine if these characters were in in the hands of competent writers. Like for fucks sake how many times do we have to go through with the same question "why are you helping me?" and answer "i want lilith gone". Like we get it, fuckin move on already. Give me some further insight on what in the fuck happened to Mephisto between D2 and D4, where are his brothers, how did he react and feel when Azmodan and Belial started the shitstorm of D3 etc. Give me something more than "why are you helping me"

Not much happened to him between D2 and D4 , he went from one soulstone to another, same as his brothers. When Malthael was defeated, their souls got released again, and they're now all reforming in hell

Because that's part of Mephisto's plan to destroy Lilith, by spreading false lies so he can lure the hero to his side to go against Lilith.Lilith is the one who really wants to help the humans 😢

Its not that she would literally "destroy" sanctuary, but rather that she would change the world to her own vision of what she believes sanctuary should be, which to the innocent people of sanctuary, would be the destruction of the world they know.
