That is for diabetes mellitus. In those with diabetes insipidus, they do not have polyphagia (excess hunger). This is a different condition. DI is not associated with diabetes mellitus

My husband was also born with the hereditary form. His three brothers have it and several of his nieces and nephews as well. Over the years he’s had to explain it to some medical doctors which is a little disconcerting.

I understand where you’re husbands coming from where you have to explain your own medical condition to people and also doctors and yeah that is a bit concerning the doctors he’s talking to don’t know what it is and he has to explain it. A question it's true that also diabetes can camouflage very well and show no symptoms at all.?

1/3rd of the Central diabetes insipidus is due to auto-antibodies directed against the hypothalamus (rabphilin-3A, a protein of secretory vesicles of the neurohypophyseal system). It is a type 2 hypersensitivity reaction.

I never understood how people in my school can have 500ml-1L of water meanwhile being there 6 hours i would pass out

I have a qs in mind the absorption under the influence of adh is facultative it doesnt happens always it only happens at the time of dehydration or increased osmolality of blood why then it causes polyuria as normal reabsorption in loop of henle and pct occurs without influence of adh .. Why then it causes polyuria

I don't have DI n I drank a lot of water while watching this lecture,

I am still confused as to how thiazides, a diuretic, will help in treating nephrogenic diabetes insipidus. Increasing NaCl excretion would lead to more water-loss, no? Or do thiazides work differently in the presence of nephrogenic diabetes insipidus? I read online that thiazides decrease urinary volume but how? It all seems contradictory to me.

Thiazide diuretics have paradoxical effects,which cause compensatory reabsorption of water in proximal convoluted tube so that loss of water decreased

The stupid Thiazides inhibits Na+ channel at DCT, which leads to increase Na+ secretion into CD, which lead to chemoreceptor activator cells at Macula Densa senses the increase of Na+ secretion, that let it release Adenosine which decreases GFR due to vasoconstriction to the afferent arteriole

Can diabetes insipidus cause extreme fatigue and peripheral vision loss, as well as frequent urination and thirst? My blood sugar is normal.

Why is it called diabetes when it seem not to be that at all? Im under medical investigation and my doctor think this might be causing my problems and not real diabetes

All "Diabetes" means in this context is frequent urination. What most people think of as "real diabetes" is Diabetes Mellitus (that is, frequent urination caused by having a lot of sugar in the blood, either due to lack of insulin production (Type 1) or insulin resistance (Type 2)). Diabetes Insipidus is "real" diabetes in that there's frequent urination, its just that the cause isn't related to blood sugar.

@@ellenlee1 I was on a medication causing the diabetes insipidus and stopped it. I still urinate a lot, over 3L/day. I've never been on ADH.

Is it possible for Diabetes Insipidus to come and go, like some days every now and then, or even periods in the day, for example having extreme symptoms one half of the day, but then not? If yes, in which type of DI can it happen, mostly for Central and Nephrogenic as these can be caused by permanent conditions, while Gestational is usually temporary by nature. I think it is a fair question of which I could never find an answer, that is if DI is something that is possible to come and go, or it always persists once it happens if it goes untreated.

It happens to me all the time. during the hrs of 10am-3pm I urinate out more the 1-1/2 liters then I'm ok at night been going on for years. Just started taking adh. ADH works good, but makes you keep water. Once the ADH wears off you urinate so much, all the urine that was saved in you when the ADH was working. This saved water has to come out or you blow up. Maybe not drink as much? Still working this out. Not too many doctors out there that has any DI patients and has knows about DI.

@@ellenlee1 Very interesting, what did they diagnose you with, what type of DI? Also after the initial 1.5 litre urination, you continue completely normal, do you consume more water and does the color remain clear?

@@karthusrop1635 one of the medication I took for BP for many years acted like a diuretic but was not a diuretic and I never knew it. I dose at 9am and in a few hours I would urinate like crazy then stop. I found this out when my kidney doctor told me that DI does not come and go. You can not concentrate your urine if you have true DI. DI is very rare. if you did not have a head injury or some kind of brain cancer.
