The iron law of any bureaucracy is to protect and grow its power. When you are talking about our national security apparatus and the military, that law will inevitably conflict with the constitutional roles of Congress.

I remember at the time thinking it was the most egregious scam on the taxpayer in US history. It reminded me of that entire fake army of paper tanks, jeeps, guns and trucks the US and Brits ginned up in WW2 to confuse onlookers- but if that fake army had then een used to "attack" another somewhat REAL army our govn't ALSO manufactured.

You both hit the problem directly! I worked at USPS Hq in IT as a Program Manager, and I was the only PM in the entire department trained as a Program Manager. The rest holding the title hired contractors to do the work they were paid to do!? And that is still going on! Great report!! You nailed it! Now if we can just get some action to stop what the government is doing.

I say repeal the Patriot act, do away with FISA, CISA and the rest. It was created after 9/11, and now they turned the entire apparatus on the American people, specifically conservatives. People who work in the govt are always looking for a way to continue riding the grab train

_"Populism"_ may have the negative connotation that it appeals to people's base instincts, and makes simplistic promises it can't fulfil. But it can also be necessary as an antidote to elitism. It's important to engage with populist ideas, rather than simply dismiss them.

I think _"technocracy"_ is an appropriate word here. A small panel of supposedly unbiased experts appointed to make decisions with little democratic accountability. There are far too many institutions like this.

In 2011 I was working in a financial institution. They were all about as people retire hire they very young people, unexperienced, to fill their management positions. "We have had slow growth over the last decades, the young people have the technological skills and we will just fix things as we go along". When people have no experience, it causes quite a lot of chaos. For everyone. How was it ever a good idea to let people who had no idea how to manage do that. Sure, there were some who should mentor...bit they weren't in the drivers seat. We also has young people gain a big head over it. Some that I had been in conversation w just wanted them out of their way. Further, I found in our break room a booklet that talked about upheavals coming- to get used to being able to "pivot" . That much change is coming. Makes me believe even further that this was a plan...appears it was a global plan, to weaken the US and put power in others hands.

I've been around for a bit (almost went to Vietnam) and like you two I am a researcher and chronicler on a very small scale of the previous chapter of the unelected State. I say previous with determination... This is an excellent report! Thank you for your commitment to the truth here because it is much needed. I only have one suggestion for the future. This nation is a constitutional democratic republic. It is a republic that has the needed influence of the democratic process, and the guiding doctrine - the one thing that even makes it possible besides the separation of powers - is the US Constitution. When referring to our democracy, please, use the terms democratic republic, constitutional republic, constitutional democracy, constitutional democratic republic. I think you catch my drift here. If that doctrine of the US Constitution ever gets sidelined, it will be the end of freedom as we know it. It seems to have gotten lost and perhaps even deemed old and no longer applicable. This perception is extremely short sighted and really uninformed. Bringing it back into the discussion and siting the merits of its parts and the whole directly linking these to whatever report you are doing will go a very long way to ensuring people understand at least in part how integral it is. It is after all, how we even got here in the good sense. The deep unelected state linked to corporatism is what it warns us against, and what Jefferson warned extensively about in his writings. Oh well, the usa should have never been in afghanistan in the first place. Its a rugged area, with stubborn people.
