I think it’s great if you can feel like you and your *coworkers* have some sort of family. that’s dope, but there is no situation where an employee truly can be, or should be made to feel as though they should be, in that situation with their employer. as a worker you owe your solidarity and your support to your fellow workers. the only thing you owe your employer is the completion of the tasks you agreed to complete, there is no, should be no, and can be no relationship beyond that.

For context, I'm a non-union actor and I work for a production company MUCH smaller than Dhar Mann and I make $45/hr with strict shooting hours agreed to about a week before shooting. Acting is fundamentally unstable, and you often don't work a full day, so you either need a holding fee, a day rate, or have a strict shooting schedule so you know how much you're making. $33/hr with none of that is incredibly unethical.

I’m a nurse and not a single for-profit company gives a shit about us, nor do they listen when we want to speak up about the sometimes abhorrent conditions of our workplaces either, and it’s just incredibly sad and disheartening. Especially when you’re a dedicated employee who is just trying to do what you love, or need to do to get by in this wack ass world. He and his company must be confident in this blowing over or like nothing will come of it, and I hope they’re wrong. No one deserves to be traumatized at work. That “we are family” video really did boil my blood. Who knows how many of those people really are unable to quit, were pressured out of supporting the protest due to the very real possibility of losing out on future work, or manipulated by him to stay? It really was a last little kick in the teeth meant to make the protesters feel like they “betrayed him.” Side note: I honestly was feeling the hair, it’s giving Lionel Richie in his prime.

I haven't seen the whole thing. But from what Jarvis said, I agree that it is a complete travesty. Why does Dhar need comforting from his actors? He already has millions of dollars from his videos' excessive revenue. And even if he did need comforting, he has a family, a wife and two children. He doesn't have to rely on those who have arguably stayed loyal to him. He doesn't deserve any respect, and the only reason I watch his videos are to see how cringeworthy and laughable they are.

The thing that makes me the saddest about this whole situation is that the Dhar Mahn channel is the opposite of a jumping-off point for actors... Not only did he deprive them, and waste their time, but it's also going to be almost impossible for them to be taken seriously without making a major move now... A similar thing happened to me when I was younger I took an internship at SoFlo and it deflated what momentum I had found, exhausted my resources, and wasted my time. Took me a few years to recover from the chance I took to be a part of a channel where creativity goes to die.

The majority of our fun were seeing the same actors over and over, reprise the same roles in every one. Sure the videos were goofy and the writing of how the situations were handled were sometimes alarmingly bad, LOL.. But it was made up for by how genuinely fun a lot of the actors were. So to see our favorites like Rachel, Colin, and Mair (my personal BIG favorite, she carried every video she was in) get treated poorly felt unreal and awful... Learning that they're starting a new channel AND they've met the minimum on their funding goal has made this story SO much better. I wish them all the best!!

Literally safety is supposed to be top priority and we have to jump through a thousand hoops to use fake weapons, as it should be. Not only is it incredibly dangerous and probably several levels of illegal to have an actor RUN with a real weapon, let alone chase another actor. Accidents happen and if either of them tripped it could lead to life changing injuries (death is probably unlikely but if an actor has a facial injury/scar it can affect their livelihood and financial means) and if she had any trauma memories related to someone pulling a knife on her etc, it could’ve given her such a severe panic attack it could have required hospitalization and sedation. I am so so so so SO proud of that girl for leaving. When someone tries to pressure you into something that makes you uncomfortable, please remember you can leave. Exit the situation and always put your safety and comfort first. That flight response is so important yet so overlooked, please listen to your instincts and never let anyone coerce you into staying and complying. Please, as someone who learned that lesson the hard way, look out for yourself

So here's something that Joe might also be told to take when getting feedback: he may be told to take names and might be told to only write down the positive stuff. I've had drama teachers who tried this with their plays and if you gave negative feedback such as the director is misreading the scene, your concerns were not heard and your roles lessened.

It's so common for people to build their image on kindness to actually be some of the worst assholes ever, because they have bought their own bullshit. They are so convinced of their own righteousness that it can't be that they made a mistake, everyone else has to be wrong. It makes them more insufferable than garden variety assholes because at least they have some self awareness

NGL this situation, esp. them forcing actors to set aside multiple days, then only paying them for a few hours of work, almost reminds me of a situation in old-school Hollywood, when Olivia de Haviland sued her contracted movie studio. She was not permitted to do work for other studios without their explicit permission, but they almost entirely gave her small "arm candy" type roles that inhibited her career and didn't pay nearly what a more prominent role would. In fact, some of her biggest parts in that period were when she convinced them to 'loan her out' to other studios. Toward the end of her contract, she started refusing the smaller roles they offered her and was put on a suspension for it. Then, when her contract was set to end, they claimed she owed 6 months of extra time for the 'suspension' period. Her lawsuit was actually a landmark case in Hollywood to benefit the treatment of contractually-obligated actors. I can only assume that the Dhar Mann studio doesn't hire full time actors to get around these sort of obligations to give them rights and benefits. I've seen the same with "adjunct" college teachers who are hired contractually per class and are not considered 'real' employees of the university, so they're paid less and aren't eligible for benefits.

the knife story makes me want to cry. that's just so awful, and to not even face someone after threatening them with a deadly weapon? and yes, he wasn't intentionally threatening her, but it doesn't fucking matter. he was willing to risk a lethal workplace accident that could injure, scar, or in the worst case kill an employee, for a tiktok.

Jarvis's hair is just first day hair for anyone wondering. It's sometimes a thing with textured hair; You'll notice a lot of black people don't like their own freshly washed look. I think because it looks too perfect. A lot of us like 2-4 day hair when it looks more natural but still has definition. I don't think he thinks it looks bad (saw that in the comments) just probably not he's favorite day on himself lol. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk 😂

I know the pain 🥲freshly washed winds up looking heavy and damp no matter what I do to it, she's got no spring, no life, then two days later I look like I stepped out of the 80s might just be that it takes a lot longer for curly/textured hair to fully dry, or maybe it needs to reabsorb the natural oils to reshape? 🤔
