It is running Mapbox maps. As used by FB, Yahoo and Lonely Planet. So it is worldwide unless the particular country blocked it.

I miss my Navdy HUD. this almost looks like it.

Why you don't reflect it off the windshield?

The LCD is facing forward, the windscreen will not catch any reflection unless the LCD is pointing upwards. Then there will be sun problem if facing upwards. The sunlight will wash out the LCD. Lastly almost all windscreens are multi layered and laminated. So there will be double and blur vision.

@@hoongjisoong It is true that windshields are multilayered but there is new technology that can eliminate the double reflection (ghost image) without using any reflective film. I created a demo of this technology, you can see a short clip here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/i2qjlLKaornUn7w.html

@@nikolaosberatlis3942 thx for sharing. but the video doesn't show much information other than 2 different projection. appreciate if you can share more information, is this an optical thin film on windscreen, thin film on hud, doublet glass (wedge) on hud or special image projection from lcd.

@@hoongjisoong On the right is a direct reflection on the windshield from a device that sits on the dashboard. The device displays speed, which is 0km/h because the car is not moving. You can see the ghost image. All aftermarket HUDs that reflect on the windshield use this arrangement. On the left is a similar device used together with a proprietary optical system that collimates the virtual image. The ghost image is eliminated. The optical system is not shown for obvious reasons. If you are interested in the optical system we can talk more.

@@nikolaosberatlis3942 thanks for sharing a little insight. i do have some experience with this type of collimator setup. It does help in reducing ghost image. But downside is, there is this focal length required between the projector and lens. This gap will determine the HUD housing size. It may end up even thicker than the current setup and blocks driver's line of sight. Also, I believe Fresnel and aspherical lens are quite expensive and needs precision manufacturing. If cheaper spherical lens is used, it will have secondary effect of image distortion and color not in focus. Aftermarket HUDs must be cost effective. Current ones don't have expensive collimators. Many just reflect on windscreen or own mirror. It's a very crude method and not real floating image. But for it to be priced between $50-100, it does the job well. Still better than the need to look down at speedometer. HUD design must also consider small form factor and slim profile to reduce viewing obstacle. Many cars do not have the luxury of space, unlike original built in HUDs which is built deep inside and have ample space for the collimator and required focal length.
