Loved this era. I lived in London as a 13 year old kid who immigrated in Dec 79 from New Zealand with my family. I was immersed into SKA culture early 80s onwards. The music was phenomenal. I saw the Specials perform live back in New Zealand in the 2000s. Awesome show. Have always loved all the bands & music from this special time in English musical culture.

Seeing Dennis Greaves singing in The Truth reminds me of a time I went to see Nine Below Zero at the Slough Fulcrum in 1980 I believe. They had just performed at Reading Rock and had grown a large Rocker following. Me being a Mod at the time, it was very disconcerting being at a concert surrounded by extremely large leather clad persons. But I must say, they were great as we all had one thing in common....the fantastic 9 Below Zero

The sophomore effort of The Specials is one of the best second albums of all time, right up there (in terms of excellent second albums, mind you) with Led Zeppelin II, Countdown to Ecstasy by Steely Dan, and Bridge of Sighs, by Robin Trower. Yup, it really is that good. For a second album. Great fookin’ album, then.

They had just performed at Reading Rock and had grown a large Rocker following. Me being a Mod at the time, it was very disconcerting being at a concert surrounded by extremely large leather clad persons. But I must say, they were great as we all had one thing in common....the fantastic 9 Below Zero
Arr the 80s, Dexys was a big part of that era, love it.
Used to be Ska club in an old community hall near me,it was fantastic! All like minded souls all appearing over the hill all dressed the same with our little pork pie hats, loafers, harrington jackets etc on,it was amazing!! Happy memories! :-)
Great times to be alive and the mod revival was a breath of fresh air for all us old ska two tone boys and girls 🛵 winters coming so the parkas be on 😎x
I never really listened to Geno until recently 4-5 years ago! so glad.. I hate when songs get ruined by over playing.. It properly makes hairs stand up for me... now I am old I totally love the lyrics too! wish I had a band with which to do a cover of it.. or similar
In the 80s i was a teenager so i sort of grow up listening to all of the band's from the 80s but my favourite had to be ska two tone & in the early 90s i got to see madness at the first madstock & the second madstock & what a amazing brilliant crazy day it was it said in the local free paper at finsbey park that the residents through tha could feel a earth quake

Saw 9 below zero supporting the Brian May band at Liverpool royal hall circa 1995 I snook in back stage after going around Liverpool on the lash I watched zero an Mr May rehearse and greeted my m8s as they came in after queuing for hour's they were well miffed!!
GENO my fave Dexys song ever ......also have great memories of going to the fair with my cousin , and we saw Buster Bloodvessel there and he got on the same ride as we were gonna go on next , so we watched him on the ride as we waited our turn lol , great guy x
Bad manners are a superb live band. They'll make you mooooooovvvve.

No. I was standing still for the entire two hours. No moves at all.
in 1980 me and my mod mates formed a band, we were huge fans of 9 below zero, and the purple hearts, we had several rehearsals, then came terrible news, our favorite bands had split up and was now called......the Truth, same name as we had chosen.
How cool is Geno Washington!
This life was our life, and that was the best life we ever had!🏁🕶️🎷⬛⬜🔲🇬🇧
The sophomore effort of The Specials is one of the best second albums of all time, right up there (in terms of excellent second albums, mind you) with Led Zeppelin II, Countdown to Ecstasy by Steely Dan, and Bridge of Sighs, by Robin Trower. Yup, it really is that good. For a second album. Great fookin’ album, then.

This is why we love music we grow up with it and it had and has meaning to it and story's of life as it was absolutely smashing🍺 chers too all the the great bands and fans
Lucky enough to meet Bad Manners at the Sheffield Uni rag ball when I helped Makin Time in with their gear. Top, top lads, and what a gig!
''Geno'' got us all up on the dance floor .Even my mates who never danced before in their life's ..some were shocking but we laughed, as they joined us ,all of us had the best nights of our life's back then 😁Don't even get me started on madness/specials and lip up fatty 😂we took over the dance floor 😂😂😂😂😁😁😁😁
Appeared at the magistrates Court wearing my tonic suit, the usher looked me up and down and said "young man ,you are appearing in court, not going to a discotheque " hahaha
Awesome documentary!

I was born in '67 and lived through this. like you. My thoughts on reading the title of the video were: Dexys - Yes! Selecter - Yes! Two Tone - well, yes Specials - Yes! Madness - Yes! Bad Manners - Yes! The Truth - who?
I was just a couple of years too young and a bit too middle class to get involved in this, but as a drummer who makes a living from music, there ain't a day goes by when I don't reference the boys and girls in this doco.

Keep SKA alive... Bop till ya drop and Skank till ya rank!!!!
Dexy's, The Specials, Selecter, Madness, Bad Manners. Love 'em all and seen 'em all. Interesting that the two most fun bands are the longest lived and arguably the most successful though Whoever stuck The Truth on at the end needs his head read though.
Amazing editing..
Saw Geno at the Royal Tottenham 1966 at least 3 times.
My 2 tone green and gold suit. Cool
I love how a few blokes going "doot" and "skidiyupah!" can send an entire country into chaos.
I knew a lad in the early '80s who was a big fan of The Truth. Every time we saw him in the street he spoke of this band, or he was on his way to see them live somewhere. He even said he and his friends at school would pretend to be the band on the school stage. Nearly 40 years later and I am finally hearing and seeing The Truth.
Never heard of The Truth before. They're really good.
Really great documentary... Always loved Ska... Still crave More, and I find meself wondrin' why I'd never seen this video before... My name's Jonny and I'm going to enjoy myself FIRST (Thanx for posting and... Cheers)
